I'm a wife and mom but I'm the one going to med school, and my husband is a pastor and works part-time, what kind of encouragement and expectations should I think about? How can I help him and my kids prepare for me not being around as much? I'm currently a stay at home mom. My oldest 2 will be in school and 1 will be home with daddy.

Dr. Chris, first of all, ohmygosh, she is so awesome and gorgeous! You and your kids are super lucky to have such a witty, smart, and beautiful mother in the household! My question is for Mrs. Thompson, what dating advice would you give a 21 year old student who's going to start medical school in the fall? Do you think your relationship with Chris would be as strong today if you two met during the preclinical years?

I've been dating a doctor for 7 months, he is in fellowship now. It's very different than any situation I've been in and find it very challenging to develop a depth to the relationship when time together is so limited. How do I support him when he acts like he doesn't need it. We keep trying and obviously feel enough to keep going but some days I'm not sure if I'm even being what he needs. I appreciate this video! There aren't many people out there talking about how difficult it is for doctors and their partners to make it work.

I'm concerned about my future family. How do you make time for your family (Kids/spouse) while in medical school? I'm a wife of a first year. Several questions - What's a good time to have kids, financially and otherwise? When did you have kids and how did it work for you? Do you work, and do you feel like you need to work to have a sense of self? Do you find yourselves spending more time with other med students or non med students? Do you have family near by and how did med school affect your relationships with your families?

So, I'm a BYU grad. Seriously, these videos are PERFECT for pre-meds at BYU. I'm in an almost identical situation as a pre-med and these videos are fantastic. The difference is I'm 32 and just finished my post-bacc, getting ready to take the MCAT June 2 and my applications will go out at the same time. I'm married with three kids and fighting with everything I have to get into med school so I can make a good life for my family and myself. I am curious, what was your undergrad and post-bacc GPA? How did you do on the MCAT? The MCAT is different now, but it'd still give me a good idea about how I'm doing as a student in a VERY similar situation to where you were going into applications. If you'd be willing to chat for a few minutes sometime, I'd be super grateful. I have a pretty solid idea, but I've only seen a couple of stats on people in my situation. To Carlie, congratulations on your journey. It's clearly as much of a challenge for the spouse as it is for the student to get through the rigors of med school. When the day finally comes where residency is over and you have your first real job be sure TREAT YO' SELF!

I have a question: i feel like this alot lately being a med school student. Do you ever feel like your dream of becoming a doctor gets in the way of her dreams. Me and my husband agreed to this together that i would go to med school. But now that we have a son it is getting so much harder and i feel like he is resenting me. How do i keep this from happening?

Alright. Good timing with this video Dr. Thompson. I just finished my first year of medical school and as you can imagine, I'm really looking forward to second year (please appreciate my sarcasm). My wife and I are expecting a baby in December. So the question...1. Do you have any tips for me, as a medical student, that can lead to a more balanced 2nd year? 2. Carlie, from your perspective, what was the most important thing that Chris did (or could have done. Don't answer if that's too personal.) that improved second year? Thanks for sharing the videos, they have been incredibly helpful!

Q: Carlie, Whats your list of requirements for him that you expect of him in order for you to feel like the lines of communication are open? Any non-negotiable things? Q: Student Dr. Thompson, Pulled in so many directions would you say that guilt becomes a factor to manage? And how do you manage that? What are the hardest challenges of having children in med school? And lastly, tips on marriage survival PLEASE!! Thank you so much for all that you do!
