Guys! Im a junior in university and I'm also currently freaking out about applying! But remember to take it slow, it feels like there isnt a lot of time but i promise that if you just set your sights on doing well in college and being yourself and having fun, you'll find that there is more than enough time to learn and to apply! I've always been a sort of control freak but i let my anxiety control my life; dont let it happen to you!! I wish you all the best of luck and may God bless you guys! Be safe ❤❤

I can feel you. I was also shit scred before med school that will I be able to do it or not. But with confidence and continuously striving hard I achieved it and have graduated a few months ago from med school. My only advice is to not get scared of whats coming up ahead and instead be more excited about it and challenge yourself that I will do it. I mean no matter what happens U are not going to die atleast. Be confident and work hard. U will achieve it.

I was invited to an interview at Cambridge for Engineering just last year. I was so tensed up and nervous that I couldn’t even properly talk. All those years of being great in class and exams were worth nothing when two professors were staring down my throat while attempting a question and explaining my motivation for the subject. Got rejected just one month later. My advice: see it as an opportunity to present yourself in the way YOU want and not as a test. Best of luck!

ooooh to get into engineering? So what are you doing now working at MacDonalds? This burger can be built 3 tiers higher and no more! Another tier would require external scaffolding to maintain structural rigidity. College interviews don’t matter, they really can only tank your application if you say something horrible or are unable to speak intelligently. I absolutely nailed most interviews and didn’t get in, while lackluster ones I did. This is in part because it’s not the adcom doing the interview, so they’re just taking the alumni’s word on it, so it’s probably around the 8th most important factor. Med school interviews are much more important.

“As a woman...” He said I bet you were shocked, but I honestly wasn’t. While shadowing, I had a male physician insinuate I should study nursing rather than pursuing medical school because I hope to be a mom someday. I was so uncomfortable and felt forced to agree (I was 17 at the time). It was really comforting to hear that this shouldn’t be brought up in an interview, and I definitely feel more comfortable now that I know the best way to tackle it if I am ever asked about it again.

What a helpful video, thank you so, so much University of Dayton! One thing that stuck out to me was their emphasis on looking for sincerity and not some sociopath who also regurgitates canned responses they devised weeks before their interview! My goodness this is such an important aspect of the interview and simply being human to remember. We're going into medical school with the intentions of emerging as someone whose sole goal is to heal people. Never, ever let that concept flee from your vision for what lays ahead for you. Be honest, be transparent, be lively, be human. Medicine should not be pursued by those intending to fill their wallets--it should be reserved for those intending to fulfill their hearts. I thank God every day for my health and I get emotional at the thought of helping others in my future. Never lose sight of your purpose to enter into the medical field not just for your own motivation, but also for the interviewers, peers, and patients who will assess your intentions based off of your demeanor toward your career.

She talks about how her interest started with taking biology classes in HS and developing close relationships with her personal doctors over the years. Nothing about that is out of the ordinary. Everyone’s path to medical school is different, if you want to strengthen that part of your application reach out to family or friends in healthcare careers to shadow or any physicians offices or hospitals in your area. You have to show that you’ve put effort in understanding the career. They also like lots of volunteer work, even stuff that’s not medical related it just has to be a passion and show long-term commitment. You don’t have to have any paid jobs/experiences, getting paid is just a bonus

1st year in highschool and i felt nervous for some reason, i really wanted to be a doctor. It’s 12:53 am right now and im really really stressing out of my future so im binge watching all these med school interviews somewhat made me more conscious especially since my vocabulary is limited, how to write essays, how to get into residency and how to pass college entrance exam, how to study 15 hours a day😕, how to make or have a good schedule, how to memorize, how to stop procrastinating(my biggest problem) Honestly im still torn if im going to be a nurse or a doctor. And if im going to be a doctor then choosing a specialty would be my next problem. Kinda felt dumber than usual after listening to this interview. Made me realize that I dont even have an answer to most questions. All i can say is that im not ready for the real world so imma enjoy these days before its gone Bye... The one thing I would disagree with the interviewer is saying its unusual for highschool students to take part in service-leading projects and activities (16:57). I think literally every highschool student desires to have a service orientated activity in order to boost their applications for college, so its not as uncommon as he puts it out to be.

I suffered through separate interviews with two PhDs, not physicians, at Vanderbilt Medical School. One interviewer was Asian who asked me the traditional question about why I wanted to enter medical school. I mentioned something about enjoying anatomy, whereupon he responded with, "Oh, you like bodies!" which made me look like a necrophiliac. From there the interview went downhill. The interview with the other PhD wasn't much better. I don't remember Vanderbilt ever sending a letter yea or nay, so I gathered I had been rejected. I had one interview with a psychiatrist at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and got accepted on the first attempt. By then, I had learned a few things about med school interviews, so I was better prepared. That was in 1970. Would I do the medical school thing all over again if I had the chance? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

''Why should I take a chance on somebody with a negative comment in one of their letters?'' This is just terrible to state...it's also a paradox because by saying this you keep feeding this ''bad' habit of extraordinary letters of evaluation. I personally would like to have someone in front of me with stated positives AND negatives instead of someone ''perfect'' which will end up not that ''perfect'' in near future. Terrible to state prof

How do you feel that your past service experiences have influenced your current situation? Specifically what types of service? Did that lead to a change in thought pattern or a career/job in the same field of service? I don’t think you need to have tragic circumstances happen to you for a great interview 😅 but her tragic circumstances represent her path to developing empathy, clinical awareness and how she has overcome set-backs on her path to medical school. I think it’s important to demonstrate those qualities in your application through your own experiences... I hope that was helpful in some way :)

I disagree half of the things he said. Having Experience prior to medical school is not disadvantage. Everybody has their own story of life. I know people are football player before going to med school. You have to remember that this is a interview. Meaning Not only his assessing you, you should also assessing him. Because he’s value and attitude are representing the school.

They talk about being sincere but I feel like she doesn't sound sincere. I'm not hating but she sounds like very scripted.. she's definitely going to be a great doctor though I see passion. If it were me I would speak mainly about my sister having a chronic illness because I've been to all the different specialties and stuff.. but I know I won't ever actually apply to medical school

NOTE TO WOMEN: asking about marriage and family plans "as a woman" is entirely inappropriate and you can file a gender based discrimination claim against the school and the interviewer. Family status or planned family status, gender,

Why does the interviewer ask about her childhood experiences with service or interest in medicine? The beginning of this video it seems like the conversation is more about childhood/high school which feels a little less relevant than her work as an adult in college. I’m not in the field of medicine so I’m interested what people have to say.
@joshsalmon4523

They already know about your work experience from the application, but need to gauge the character of the applicant. They need to see if they will make an empathetic and kind doctor. A conversation about her childhood service is helpful with that in mind.

I have just graduated high school this year, and next year I’m attending the university of Wisconsin Madison! I have always wanted to be a surgeon and watching this video brings me so much excitement! but anyway on to my question, I choose biology as my major just because I knew I wanted to major somewhat in the science realm. Of course I plan for this to change, as there are way too many biology majors already. Does anyone recommend any specific majors for getting into med school? Or majors that will be beneficial/make you stand out. Of course I plan on accessing my interests and choosing a few but beyond that ? Also I’ve always had trouble answering people when they ask why I want to be a surgeon because I’m sure you can imagine it was greys 😔 but before I had even watched that show I wanted to be a doctor. How do I explain without using a Netflix show that I know I was meant to work in a hospital and the surgery is the only career I could ever see myself in?
