Jenny Le Just wondering if you do video requests? Question: From all the schooling from undergrad to medical school. What percentage from all you have learned do you use on the job on a daily bases?
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Filmon Tewolde What type of video would you like to see. I wouldn't say I use everything I learned everyday but throughout my career I have used everything I've learned at one point or another.
@user-lu6yg3vk9z7 жыл бұрын
Jenny Le I mean from the pre reqes you took to get into Medical School . How much of the information did you use in medical school? For example Calculus, Physics ect you probably never used in Medical School I assuming. You haven't stared your residency yet , but would like know what information you will be using on the job on a daily bases.
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Filmon Tewolde oh yes I use absolutely no physics ever! Lol but I did use biochemistry, neurology, physiology, micro, genetics, molecular bio, human repro ... I used a lot of my science courses from undergrad in med school.

You made me feel so much better about choosing going into DO school and thinking of doing IM. I get constantly blasted by friends (mostly males) about choosing the "worst specialty" there is. I realized I wanted more aside from medicine and wanted to establish that relationship with patients. I worked in IM as a CA all year and even though it was crappy at times, it was always worth it. Thanks again gem. Good luck :)

Im a new subscriber and loving your videos! You are so inspiring and helpful :) I would love a video on your gap year before med school and what you did to improve your application!
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Umnia During my gap year - I worked in a lab, shadowed a family doctor several days a week, volunteered in labor and deliver once and week, and finished up my dance minor.
@katet76247 жыл бұрын
Just curious - what did you do when you volunteered in labor and delivery? Was it mostly clerical stuff because you were not a doctor?
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Kate T I would scribe during delivery, give babies their first bath, shadow pediatricians when they came to exam babies or assist during circumcisions. Help moms ambulate and my favorite - hold babies when mom's took showers.
@katet76247 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, sounds like my dream job, if I could just hold babies all day I would! Can you do a video about becoming a medical scribe and working as a medical scribe? I would love to hear about it! I plan on becoming a med scribe and working part time during my undergrad and then hopefully doing med school and becoming a paediatrician :)

I love your videos.. Omg... quick question .... How will you pass your mcat if you don't take a science related major?
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Sue sifa There are certain science courses that you still have to take for med school prerecs - those classes are the ones tested on the MCAT. But you don't have to major in science.

Hi Jenny! I was wondering if med school is good for someone who is afraid of seeing too much of the insides of the human body lol... I love medicine and I think I would like to be a psychiatrist or family doctor so I can be in medicine without dealing with that much of the human body, but I'm not sure how much blood and flesh and stuff is prevalent during med school. I'm ok with blood, but looking at wounds and gore kind of scares me. Can you give me some insight on that? Thanks!

+allaroundeverything I remember the first time I had anatomy lab - all we had to do was turn the cadaver over and put socks on his hands and feet. I couldn't do it and I went home and called my mom crying. It was emotional for me know that the person laying on my table was someone's loved one. As the days went on, it got better and I came to appreciate those people who have donated their bodies in order for students to learn. The moral of the story is - you'll be surprised at what you are capable of. So it doesn't hurt to try!
@livecraftily7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the insightful reply. I'll definitely keep striving to get to med school!

Hey Jenny, would you happen to know if med schools look more at overall science gpa or cumulative gpa? Thanks in advance!
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Emily Tso Med school looks at your application as a whole. I know they use GPA and MCAT scores as a cut off for interviews but I can I can not tell you for sure which hold more weight. I would assume your science GPA.

Hello, I'm about to start my senior year of high school and have always wanted to be a trauma surgeon. I know you touched base on majoring in other things besides chem and bio and how they affect you, but is it smart to major in nursing? I felt as though that would keep me on the medical track, I just don't know if that's allowed or possible?
@drjennale7 жыл бұрын
+Mya Jones I believe one of the plastic surgeons I worked majored in nursing before going to medical school. I know there are also plenty of people in my class who were working as nurses before coming to medical school as well.
