I've been single for almost 3 years. I've been telling myself that I need to get through undergrad and grad school before dating anyone, but this video kind of shows me it doesn't have to be that extreme. I just thought there aren't many guys out there who could accommodate my schedule or be patient and faithful. My grad program would be way less intense and shorter than med school but I'd still be busy. Coffee meets bagel sounds promising but I don't have fb. Maybe I'll meet someone eventually. I struggle because so many people seem to care about intimacy the most and that's something I need to warm up to, you know? It seems like the boyfriends in this video totally understand that, so hopefully more guys like that are out there.

The timing of this video couldn't have been more perfect! I'm starting med school in 2 weeks and my boyfriend of many years just admitted to me last night that he's nervous about it. I haven't been worried, and you and your friends just showed us exactly why he shouldn't be either. Thank you guys so much! I hope residency's going well, Jenny!

Thank you so much! This was so insightful!!! Honestly no one talks about med school relationships much, you just find out ppl getting engaged/married or splitting. Thanks for showing us couples that "made it". Medicine is stressful, it really is, but we all deserve a chance at love and having a family too! :)

I'm really glad I came across this video. I'm currently dating someone in dental school. We both met in college but dear lord the transition was tough. We were together every day, and now we see each other for about 30 minutes. But like you all mentioned, communication is key! That and being able to accept the busy life of a DDS or MD.

Next time can you interview med school parents or those who became pregnant during med school or are raising young children? I will be a non-trad med school applicant and will be applying to med school in my early 30's so it would be nice to hear some actual stories from people who are experiencing this first-hand. I did hear there is still a stigma towards female med students or residents having children
@drjennale
@drjennale 7 жыл бұрын
+tokee1234567 I was pregnant and gave birth during my fourth year of medical school. I too heard of stigma towards pregnant medical students/residents but I have not experienced any myself. Most people I spoke to (including myself) hid their pregnancies early on for this reason and later regretted it when everyone was so receptive. I wish I celebrated my pregnancy more.
@AyaKaraRemix

I would like to see this too, I'm also non-trad and we're considering the possibility of having our first baby during med school.
@tokee1234567
@tokee1234567 7 жыл бұрын
Yes I am aware of that and congratulations! I am thinking more about parents who are pregnant in the beginning of med school early on or those who had children right before med school or are raising young children during med school. I am debating on having my first child before med school since by the time I am in my fourth year, I might reach that mid-late 30's where pregnancies can become difficult. Then I am thinking of my second pregnancy during the 3-4th year of med school. I know a lot of people think motherhood along with med school (raising a baby through entire med school) is just too difficult. My husband will also have rotating day and night shift jobs as a healthcare worker so childcare might also be difficult. I am finishing up my prereqs this Winter and will be studying for the MCAT afterwards. Thank you for your reply!

+tokee1234567 I am also a non-trad soon to be applicant. Do you mind sharing your story of wanting to become a doctor? I have had many times of self-doubt, and wondering if I should continue with my current path, or go to medical school. It would be helpful to hear about your path.

You are such an inspiration, Jenny. I am from Australia and, even though the U.S and Australian systems differ quite substantially, I get so much out of your videos. I have had a bit of a change of path and have decided to pursue medicine. I am already in a long-term relationship and am hoping to have a child during medical school. It is so great to see that it can be done as so many people seem to think women can't have it all. Thanks for your great content and inspiring women around the world!

This is all lovely, but makes me stressed. I can totally relate with the guy with black shirt (I LOVE solo time, and being alone) I currently live by myself and LOVE IT(that itself is an understatement). Someone I know wants to get married with me and mentions it too often, but just the thought of it gives me anxiety. I am all about not having *that* burden of commitment over my shoulders; I am also looking forward to start a post-bachelors program in Medicine in hopes of getting into Med school.

Also I lost everything on my quest to become successful. I found out that 4 others were happily using my identity and now I just sit in wonder most of the time while i slowly slip into deeper depression. No relationship, no friends, no kids, and quite frankly I think my mind may be gone soon as well. The one time I did think I would have been in a relationship turned out to be a huge joke and the most humiliating experience since my elementary school graduation day when no one showed up. Just venting I guess but I do that every once in a while

I hope you feel a little better now🥰 And dont worry, i think that if you trully want and NEVER GIVE UP, you will find your happiness someday....when the time is perfect for you😊 (remember, obsticles are just lessons) Just stay true to yourself and dont hesitate to ask for help,even from a profesional, if that is needed!! Have a nice day ...and life🙂

This is so great, thanks for the video. I think by biggest fear is whether or not I will be able to have a work life balance while in medical school. I have seen so many youtube videos about how much time is taken up by medical school, but I am wondering how much time do you really have to meet with friends, family, and your partner? Once a month to meet with family/your partner seems kind of difficult, since I currently see them at least once a week. Any advice?

My girlfriend and I are both striving for medical school, and I'm concerned because I'm seeing a trend in medical school relationships. It seems that relationships are only possible if only one person is in medical school... Have you seen examples where two med school students were able to have a relationship and possibly a family?
@drjennale
@drjennale 7 жыл бұрын
+Jerry Cao I have friends who are married and both in medical school. I feel like you would be able to have a family if you had a good support system. Since both of you would be very busy with school, someone like grandparents would have to play a major role, or very good child care. I know some who have an in home nanny.
