Thanx Prof. as always. The few lab orders that I know offhead are because of your teaching. However I would like a further explanation as to why we should give insulin and glucose to a hypokalemia pt instead Kayexalate which will help the poop all that K+

If the pt k+ is already low we don’t want to make it worse by giving them Kayexelate. Did you mean hyperkalemia? If so, the insulin works much faster since we don’t have time to wait for them to excrete it by defacation. GI takes too long for an urgent situation
