I find it strange that no one has mentioned that he supposedly played several rounds of pickle ball that morning, probably sweat..., dehydration, hot tubs and bad hearts are a bad combo. If he was sore and hurting maybe that explains taking the med orally. An electrolyte crash can kill you. Anyone who has a history of drugs and alcohol, needs to know the state of their major organs and what they can and cannot handle. Staying on top of your electrolytes is essential. I feel bad that Matthew Perry is gone, he was a bright shining light, but I hope he is having a beautiful afterlife. He will be forever missed.

I have no alcohol or drugs addiction but Perry's death had a profound impact on me. I felt like I lost someone close to me. I had no attachment to him. It was the strangest experience. I too deeply wish him a wonderful after life. I feel his problems started when he was a cholic baby and doctors put him on drugs. He was a new born. That's insane. I think this is what drove his addiction and mental issues. It's so sad this ever happened to such a good person.

He was one of my favorite actors. My favorite movie is “fools rush in” he said in his book that he got hurt when he was making that movie. Jet skiing or something? And the pain killers they gave him then was the start of his addiction.

Although I was not a particular Matthew Perry fan & I read only a couple written stories on his passing & when hearing many broadcasts, unavoidable because of his great popularity.... his love of pickleball was always reported, & the fact that he played everyday for literally hours, including that last day. It's well known that suanas & hot tubs can be hazardous to many folks IF they have physical issues that contraindicate using them. I think the pickleball aspect was well reported.

Although if you call a compounding pharmacy (you may need to call multiple compounding pharmacies) they may be able to guide you toward a doctor. Most likely it would be an integrative doctor. I have luck with IV Meyers cocktails with additional magnesium and saline IV’s. Good luck.

I was offered a 10 treatment session of ketamine. The 1st issue is cost as it’s not usually covered by insurance. Mine didn’t so it was $700 per treatment. I did one treatment. It was fine during but at the end my blood pressure went to 200 and I felt awful for hours. I didn’t go back. Mainly again because of cost. I will say though, that one session, may not have cured my depression completely, but it has made it livable and took away my suicidal thoughts so take that for what it’s worth.

I’ve received ketamine IV for 7 years. Ask the clinic for a superbill. Send to your insurance. If they deny it, then appeal it. That’s how I got a lot of mine paid for. More and more insurances are paying for it including Medicare. Ketamine is used at the VA to help veterans. Be well.

I had my left arm amputated after several surgeries post compartment syndrome. Before my surgeon referred me to pain management, I was humiliated and belittled by an ER Dr and an RN for drug seeking. My EMG showed catastrophic nerve and muscle damage and it wasn't until my pain management team explained the hand has so many more nerve endings, that pain would be a normal response to the severe damage. My doctor is the same. I have responsibly used opiates to control my pain for 8 years with this doctor and others before him. Because of the doctors over prescribing meds and the backlash against that, he treats me like a child that is asking for too much candy. He has called addicts “idiots”. In the USA you are basically making yourselves drug addicts. Even if Matt Perry had been "sober" for 19 months, he still was full of drugs, only so called "legal" ones. I have had 13 surgeries in the last 10 yrs due to a continuous failing of an ankle fusion. After every surgery I go onto ketamine for a week (subcutaneous line) I was lying in my hospital bed one night & all of a sudden all the work my psychologist & I had been doing made sense. I knew my parents were narcissistic & I had had some really bad things happen which I always assumed was my abusive X husband. It hit so incredibly powerfully. All of a sudden things made sense in terms of times & details people & cops had reported. It was my mother & eldest brother working together, for years to try & bring me down. Ketamine is a great drug if used right but you need the support as well as the treatment & importantly a Dr who knows what they are doing. Today my foot is still screwed, in & out of OR my brother passed away from a brain tumor & my mother continues to alienate me & play her narcissistic games. The only difference is I know her work although good, is boring & predicable. My journey to heal continues. Stay safe people. Xx

I grew up being told my parents were the only true people I can trust in life. To reach your 30’s & find out everything you thought you knew was not & just how detached your parents really are, it’s devastating. I know now they don’t have the ability to love me or be sympathetic. They have & still try to alienate me from family, at my brothers wake my Uncle asked how my foot was & my father stopped everyone talking to yell over to me to “hey get your F## foot cut off”. There is never a sorry or acknowledgment of bad behaviour. I still hope one day things will change but there is nothing I can do for them. He referred to himself as this in a post on Twitter shortly before his accident. She also said that he was very careful as to not leave anything around when "using". It is truly sad. It almost seems like he was replacing his opioids with his possible use of ketamine while not in the presence of a qualified medical professional. If he drown, the coroner should of reported water in his lungs. 🤷 He's finally free of his addiction now, so sadly. 😢🙏

I started listening to his memoir, narrated by him this morning. His alcohol & opiate intake was tremendous. He was up to 55 hydrocodone DAILY. He told of taking ketamine treatments in rehab but said it wasn't for him.... The book starts out with him telling about not having a bm for 10 days causing his colon to burst which almost killed him. Tragic story.

@@cavgrey8 I made a HUGE mistake using CBD oil for pain! There had not been much research done on CBD, but after I got so sick I couldn’t even tolerate water or walk 10 feet from the sofa to the kitchen sink without my heart rate zooming to 130 and being short of breath that I Googled CBD drug interactions. Turns out that CBD interacts with LOTS of meds. At least being that sick helped me lose the Lyrica 40+ lbs I was carrying.

There is already so much stigma and reluctance in using Ketamine for mental health. I hate that his death is being blamed/ connected to his Ketamine treatment. It is so hard to get in Texas. I have had to go out of state until my doc got legal in Texas and could do Zoom type appointments. It has truly saved my life. I am a mental health licenced counseling professional and I have to keep myself healthy. I tell clients to be willing to go to any lengths to get well, and I had to also. I had tried everything... Ketamine is the best. It was hard though putting my pride aside and admitting I needed help. A life altering event like death of my parents and mother in-law 6months apart was too much, but Ketamine sped up the grief work and helped me resolve unfinished business with my father and MIL. I really wish there were more providers and AFFORDABLE ones in Texas.

I feel like they are trying to put his death on just Ketamine and making Ketamine look bad because of the positive use it's had for Depression,PTSD, Anxiety and such. So many people have been helped from Ketamine and have been able to get off multiple medications for Depression,Anxiety etc. They're losing tons of money because of this. Man made meds have dangerous side effects and some can kill. Here’s my life method: 1) Treat chronic pain with proper diet and natural rubs etc.. + patience and strong will + be kind to yourself. 2) Treat psychological pain by altering your thinking process and thoughts + patience and strong will + be kind to yourself. 3) Treat addiction with developing hate to drugs + patience and strong will + be kind to yourself. In all cases, think deep and hard, and even research to find the root cause so you can have an actual enemy to tackle. This will help you develop the hate. Use that hate. And if you have/had loved ones, think about what would they want for you. Your brain is an extremely powerful tool, feel free to take advantage of it. I know we’re only here temporarily, but not this temporary. You’re only done when you’re absolutely done. Matthew was in a hot tub, means he wasn’t done. For years, he was also seeking expensive help elsewhere, he didn’t know that ONLY YOU CAN HEAL YOU.

I was given Ketamin during major surgery to relocate my hip before a knee and hip surgery after a horrible wreck. As a addict in recovery, I will admit I can see what he would of been fond of ☺️ Addiction is a beast man! It's tough because I am a Cancer patient and have been judged by where I put myself in rehab back in 2008 and they pulled my pain meds due to that in 2015 despite the Cancer. Even after the wreck with a broken spine, knee and hip was denied opiates and they wander why there is a street opioid problem! I use both IV and oral ketamine for CRPS. With severe pain comes depression and anxiety. From this pain back in 2013 , I was bedridden. Nerve pain like CRPS is very intense. I have been down the K whole twice. We now prevent with preloading with Ativan before increasing the IV dose. I started CRPS in 2009 after a fall at work as a nurse. A cable was handing a foot off the floor and I tripped over it. My left wrist was tore. Three months later my hand turned purple ,ice cold, swollen , severe stabbing and burning pain. Also I was unable to bend my wrist. Ketamine has helped to keep me walking. My CRPS spread to all 4 limbs. It’s been 14 rough yrs. Thank you Dr for trying to educate.

My daughter age 22, has full body CRPS since age 19. She also has several other major health issues and had several falls from POTS that lead her to get this dreaded CRPS. She takes monthly ketamine infusions and it has saved her life. She preloads with Ativan, nausea meds and also she gets an IV bag along with her ketamine. The whole process takes about 5 or 6 hours. CRPS means "Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. It is one of the most agonizing pain conditions that exists. POTS is "Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia which means it causes your heart rate to go sky high and then you pass out. Google is a great tool to learn. @@kimwentz442

Esketamine (brand name, Spravato) was the first medication that has ever helped my depression. Unfortunately, once a week dosing was not adequate, and twice a week dosing was much too expensive. It was partially covered by insurance, so you might want to see if that would be more affordable for you. There is also a new medication which works on the same receptors that esketamine does. It is called Auvelity. It can become effective within a week after you start taking it, unlike other antidepressant medications. Also, have you checked out TMS, brain stimulation? I read the autopsy. The ng/ml in his system was equivalent to 400mg at his recorded weight. That’s insane. A ketamine hole is 225mg, and the infusion therapy that he’d received the week before could not have accounted for even this dosage, since it washes out within 24 hours and no clinician would dose him like that. He definitely wasn’t taking it morally, ethically or responsibly.

The dose they use for TRD is so low compared to what he had in his system and it's in a controlled environment. I was dosed with Ket as a "date rape" drug. Thankfully, I knew what it was as I was given it before by a shitty friend who thought K holes were fun. But through that bad experience, I realised when I was "spiked." Thankfully, I was in a safe bar, which I worked in, and on a night off with people I knew, we were like a family. Scarily, they all thought I was just over drunk, but I didn't get kicked out. I couldn't walk, my legs were gone, it was like trying to walk through my legs on my knees, I couldn't tell u from down, being a basement bar I was so confused as to where I was in space. I couldn't explain anything to my friends. I ended up being carried to the office and put on the sofa to "recover." I was sick, vomiting, trying to talk through crying as everything looked "mosaic" - at some oint I mnaged to tell the bouncer who was trying to cheer me up what happened and they realised it was the guy trying to hang around me. Little did he know I had a whole bar of people to look after me.

The 2nd treatment the Dr turned it on too fast and I blacked out. I came too with the nurses face right in my face. I completely freaked out, didn't know what had happened. I was having ECT treatments for sudden onset depression after menopause. I was going to a very large hospital and was told I had treatment resistant depression and ECT alone wasn't working. I was told that ketamine with ECT might work better. It was the most horrible experience. I sobbed uncontrollably when I came to. I couldn't stop crying. I ended up on the psychiatric unit in complete sorrow. I have very little memory other than that. I think I got the wrong dose according to my weight. I was an operating room nurse at that hospital in Massachusetts. UMASS. I am still in depression. I had TMS which caused me vertigo everytime they increased the frequency. Keto is amazing for a lot of things. It really helped me. I was only on it for two months but I lost about 30 pounds and also my cholesterol went down to normal which it’s been high since I was in my 20s all my lab work is perfect. I was prediabetic with an A1c is 6.4. It’s now 5.7. I don’t know about depression but since it seems to rebalance the body it’s worth a try. Prayers for you.

My baby, Bailey (sleek black, medium coat cat) passed away 2 months ago. She was an orphan when she was 2 days old. I literally became her mom. I bottle fed her every 2 hours. I set an alarm to feed her through the night. I took her to work with me for 3 months. Thank God I worked in an office. I put "open, slowly: Kitten at play" on the door. she slept on my lap most of the time at work. when I weaned her off of the bottle she started sucking on my pinky finger. she never stopped it right to the day she passed. she never left my bedroom except to go potty for 15 years. she always slept under my arm and down my torso or on my chest. I begged God too give her back for weeks. I still cry evey day, multiple times. I put her coller, name tag and rabies tag on my key chain. She didn't want to be loved on by anyone except me. God I miss her so much. when my husband buried her, I laid on her grave until it got dark and my husband made me come in. I have some extreme depression, anxiety and PTSD. I had ketamine treatment for my treatment resistant depression. It did help me a great deal. But it was administered to me in a clinical setting, at the doctor’s office. I was constantly monitored and my vitals were checked often. I was not allowed to drive home so I had my mom drive me (thanks mom!) I was well educated on this drug beforehand and I would *never* try to self-administer this particular drug on my own. I don’t understand why people would take this drug “recreationally.” It’s not a pleasant “high.” It’s nothing like being buzzed on alcohol or marijuana, the only “recreational” drugs I have experienced. Pot makes music sound better, on ketamine all my music sounded terrible. Ketamine makes you feel detached from yourself and it’s not a pleasant experience. I at first thought that it was the “drug trip” experience that caused the changes in your brain that helped fight depression. But I have since learned the ketamine does something to the neural connections in your brain, subconsciously. The disorienting “high” is a side-effect, not the primary method of action.

Ketamine infusion therapy helped bring me back from the brink of a very dark place. I'm not sure how much longer I could have gone on at the time, but just over a year later I am healthy and happy. I wanted to share that I had a very positive experience with Ketamine therapy. I was at my wits end and I'm so happy to report that I have finally made it over the hump of anxiety and depression. I'm finally able to maintain positive daily routines out of my room and out of my house🎉 . My Ketamine infusion was scheduled under medical supervision. I'd never ever to do this as recreation. It was a therapeutic treatment, but never a "high". I only recommend it under medical supervision.

I take a compounded Katamine nasal spray for breakthrough chronic pain. My health insurance does not cover it, and all it does is make me feel woozy for a few minutes. I noticed my blood pressure was getting higher, and I asked my pain management doctor if it was the Ketamine. He said no. I was put on this medication because of the opioid crisis. I hate that I don’t have my Percocet anymore. I’m tired of getting poor pain management because of this so-called epidemic. Addicts are going to find a way to get drugs no matter what. I was on percocet, and others alternating for 5 years for my chronic pain from complex chronic illness (though I developed a large physiological dependence of course because I took them daily over an extended period of time, and thus was labeled a huge addict for being on so many controlled meds and sent to rehab. 8 months of torture and gaslighting. I was on them from different doctors BECAUSE of the crisis and doctors abruptly cutting patients off and so I had to find someone new to HELP me) Anyway. Now I am just on gabapentin. I also take Kratom at times. But isn’t it odd how kratom attaches to the opioid receptors and works, yet NONE of the opioids do anymore….

With the level of Ketamine in his system and if he self medicated with it at home could it be possible this was taken as a intentional over dosage as any responsible person would strictly follow dosing orders with such a powerful drug and why would he be able to even be prescribed this at home Ketamine with his LONG HISTORY of DRUG ABUSE,was his chart not flagged? No. What I’m saying is I’m 63 and successful electrical engineer but I have seriously struggled since my teens with prescription treatments and self medication. At 61 I stumbled on small doses of THC/CBD to find remarkable improvement in cognitive function and coping with anxiety. It absolutely needs to be studied by professionals like you Dr. to help people work through trauma etc. I’m 100% serious that small controlled exact doses can be incredibly effective. High temperature in a tub, or losing body temperature in a cold one. Going unconscious and drowning. Don't drink in a hot tub, don't get in water if drinking or on any drugs, even prescribed.

I currently am on 16 months of ketamine therapy and also am being treated with suboxone and have been for 2.5 years. I’m actually almost completely tapered off of the suboxone. Ketamine helped me turn the page. I want to stress how much ketamine helps. Just be careful with anything you put in your body. Us addicts don’t know how to moderate, even when we’re trying to fix ourselves.

I was given ketamine for pain after surgery in October and I couldn’t tolerate it. My blood pressure spiked to 200 and it gave me a migraine. I begged them to turn it off. I thought I was going to die right there. I can’t imagine using ketamine outside of the hospital. Even in the hospital it was terrifying. Rest in heaven Matthew Perry we miss you ❤️

Ketamine caused sheer terror for me, honestly, no other word for it. I felt surges of incredible terror during which I’d jump up and SCREAM, “Help Me! Help Me!” It was administered in a clinic with a trained professional. I am astonished that it is legal without signing off to the extreme danger. My blood pressure went over 200. Matthew Perry and the cast helped me a lot through life. He was taking ketamine by therapist and from therapist in office only. He got addicted to it and used it recreationally. Ketamine has half life. Half gone after 4 hours. So the week and a half was his last medically known dosage. So what was in his system the day he died wasn't from almost two weeks ago. He was using it for the ketamine highland became addicted. Which he talked about he was addicted to it. He got it from street drug which was pill. And took it and went in a pool which put him in a comatose kinda way and he drowned by accident. His level was 3,000 + which is super high. So yes he relapsed and was taking it illegally without doctor approval at home. And with his heart and lung disease with drowning caused accidental death bc he drowned.

I wish more doctors were like you. You have great compassion and empathy combined with thoroughness that help patients end up with successful outcomes. I’ve had kidney issues and been in kidney failure more times than I can count due to interstitial cystitis and uncontrolled Celiac’s disease. I’m to blame for the Celiac’s because cutting out gluten just didn’t seem to help. At all. Anyway, after being in kidney failure, having the ER see my potassium go from 2.2 prior to IV fluids to 2.0 after fluids, they admitted me but there was a LOT of gaslighting going on there as well as with the Hospitalist. Long story short, I stopped trusting doctors and hospitals. Fast forward 3 years and I’m in super bad shape and resisted going to the hospital (I live in a small college town & we don’t have a lot of options. I knew I was dying. I know my body and that’s something docs hold against me. They think I’m med seeking because I know that dilaudid is the only thing that helps when I’m that sick. And that’s it’s own story. Anyway, I gave in and went to the ER. My potassium was 2.0, magnesium was 1.0, I had cardiac enzymes, and about 5 abnormal EKGs. I was in kidney failure and heart failure. I put myself in that position because I refused to be treated like a junkie. They could see my body declining and they still treated me as if I’m malingering and I felt so helpless. Thank God the new ER doc was compassionate and gave me hope for the first time in years. I hate to think of how many people out there with chronic illness and chronic pain (I take 1 Norco 10/325 twice a day and refuse to up the dose or go to pain management because I don’t want to trade one problem for another) will end up like me and nearly die because they’re sick of being treated like someone who makes up illnesses to get drugs. If more docs out there were like you, I would’ve never chosen to deal with all this on my own. Thank you for all you do.

Any Medication that lowers the blood pressure, combined with heart issues, can cause major heart issues in a High Temperature Hot Tub. I myself almost passed out in one from my low blood pressure and cardiomyopathy. Fortunately, I was able to push myself up to where I could sit on the edge, and I had a cold thermos of water. But... It was a frightening struggle.

Even people with healthy hearts have to be careful about hot tubs. The ones which are open to hotel guests or condo guests usually have warning signs. No one should be in there alone. I am so glad you posted this video. I've been receiving ketamine infusions for the past two years, and I know without a doubt they saved my life, but as soon as I heard the news that ketamine was found in a famous actor's toxicology report, I immediately saw it as a massive setback in the acceptance of ketamine as a viable and safe alternative to traditional antidepressants. Would you mind sharing your weight and doseage, route, etc? Also, how many sessions in the first exposure, and then how often you go for maintenance? I'm going in August for 6 sessions IV. I think he said he's starting me at 50. I've had it before, and had a bad vasal vagal reaction the first time. I also dissociated every time, mostly neutral dissociation. It greatly helped my executive function which brought my mood up but I wasn't able to continue because of Covid. Now it is free I Canada for treatment resistant depression.

I suffered from depression. My body did not react well to anti-depressants--in fact, the meds made things worse. It wasn't until 18 years later my doctor ordered an extensive blood panel and discovered my Vitamin D was in the basement. My body can't process D from the sun. After mega doses of prescription strength D, I got back on track. It sounds like Matthew's doctors sold him a "get well quick" scheme and failed him miserably.

His doctors didn't let him down, he did. He has been an addict from the git go . Perry took drugs. His colon exploded and he still took drugs. Nothing was going to stop him because he was beyond help. He couldn't help himself either. I've never been a big fan but was aware of his addictions and so hoped he would make it but.... Used properly, under medical supervision, Ketamine is very safe. It sounds like Matthew was mixing oral Ketamine with the other medication he mentioned. You can get oral Ketamine legally, by mail order, as the doctor mentioned. It seems risky to me since you administer it to yourself. To me, it opens up the possibility of abuse.

I was given Ketamine post surgery in ICU and had the worst paranoid psychosis imaginable. (I’ve never had psychosis before.) It was absolutely terrifying. I bit, scratched, kicked staff because I believed they were trying to poison me. There may be a dose which is safe to take, but I never, ever want to have it again. The trauma of the psychosis lived on long after all the other traumas I’d been through - even worse than nearly dying 3 times from haemorrhage etc. I guess I must be one of the few people on the planet who finds it intolerable.

I had a very similar reaction. I could not wake up and felt like I was drowning even though I could hear the doctor and nurses talking. I heard them saying “go get her husband” and it was terrifying. My husband trying to wake me up and feeling like I am drowning and seeing funky shapes. I was sobbing when I finally came out of it. It was terrifying. I never ever want to go through that again in my life.

My 27 yr old bf died five days ago. They found him drowned in a hot tub. He was overweight, recovering from guilllane barree,,had just had an immunoglobulin infusion that day, which vastly dehydrates you,, and he was also taking muscle relaxers,, gabapentin, and nicotine, and alcohol. Who knows if his heart stopped or he depressed his central nervous system so much that his reflexes failed to signal that he was not getting oxygen. So tragic

I really appreciate that the magic bullet theory is addressed, in that to heal the medication is not the cure, it’s the adjunct which allows one to heal themselves. So many misconceptions about ketamine and psychedelic therapy are carried by the people looking to heal from their suffering. Information like this, as well as access to care and responsible caregivers, needs to be available to that population.

Prozac can cause depression. It’s referred to as a depression pill. Don’t stop immediately you need a long taper.

I had a hip replacement last year. In recovery, the nurse gave me an IV injection of Ketamine for the pain from the incision etc. The Ketamine did nothing for the pain but it made me feel nauseous. i told the nurse to give me something else as the pain was increasing quickly. She ignored my request and gave me a second and third dose of Ketamine. After the third dose, I demanded to see an anesthesiologist. Upon hearing my complaint, he quickly ordered IV morphine and that stopped the pain. I was discharged an hour later. Doctors in my area are afraid to prescribe opioids for acute pain as well as chronic pain due to the opioid crisis in the late 90s and early 2000s and the fear of being sued. Many patients are now suffering after surgeries. The doctor who made this video even mentioned this and referred to the pendulum swinging in the opposite direction.

The opioid crisis is still going on. I’m in pain management and taking Hydrocodone 10/325 4 times a day and there is now are shortage of 10’s and 7.5mg too. I had to call around to all the pharmacies in my area and finally found one that had some 7.5mg that my dr could call in. My pharmacist says he doesn’t if or when they will be getting any 10mg because it is so back ordered and a bad shortage. I’ve been taking this drug for over 25 plus years and never ever have had this happen.

I had a general surgeon friend who prescribed a Ketamine compound cream for me because an DNA test told me that I lacked the enzymes to break down opioids and antidepressants. I became violently ill whenever given either. After being told I needed a knee replacement and suffering from pretty severe pain my friend the surgeon suggested the Ketamine topical to ease my pain without all the bad side effects of the oral opioids.

He also had emphysema and diabetes 😢 After he passed I read the that jacuzzis etc are dangerous because hot water, saunas and even hot weather mimics exercise and puts strain on the heart and drops your blood pressure. They are dangerous for seniors who have high (or low) blood pressure, diabetes, or heart problems. Hot tubs should be avoided by elderly people who have chronic lung problems or who take certain medications. I really wish he knew this 😢 Rest in paradise Matty 🕊️

I think it’s a difficult balance when you’re a recovering addict and searching for healing. Ketamine is a wonderful tool to healing but I also know people who have abused Ketamine which of course is quite dangerous. My feeling, as a recovering addict myself, he thought “if some is good, more is better” and unfortunately he took too much coupled with the suboxone and a strained heart and a hot tub. That’s it. Ketamine is supposed to have medical supervision and a code team during its use. It should not be allowed to use this as a spa type treatment. Very dangerous.
