Why can’t these insurance brokers on KZbin just come right out and tell you directly what insurance carriers have the best price stability? I agree in New York it’s a crime and money grab from UHC. $242 monthly and then you need Drug coverage, dental & perhaps vision care. It’s not affordable which means less food on table. If you have income under $18k or are an illegal you get it all for free on the tax payers sweat. Go figure…
@MikeD_9 ай бұрын
I suspect Plan N might be more popular in NY than G simply because both are expensive comparatively, but N less so, and that the gap between the two is more than the $30 a month. I don't go on Medicare until later this year, but I'll likely pick an N plan since my understanding is in NY they don't allow excess charges and you can switch between all plans (including in and out of an MA) without having to go through an medical underwriter. That's an advantage of being in NY, yet that's also contributing to our much higher premiums.

Yes, and what was not mentioned in the video is that Plan G is the Guaranteed Issue plan, which unfortunately results in Plan G tending to have a higher number of sick people in their risk pool, so rate increases are typically higher than Plan N due to the high number of claims the insurance company has to pay out.

@jeffwise63983 ай бұрын
Marvin, the only thing you didn't clearly connect on was IF plan N attracts healthier people than Plan G. Unless the population of both plans are the same then the $30 difference per month for each plan would remain the same as the future brings the price increases. But I've heard elsewhere (and I'm not sure of the validity) that Plan N attracts healthier people. So, if one chooses a stable national carrier for either choice, but Plan G population has less healthy people than Plan N, then that $30 premium gap should widen over time as Plan G insureds may experience larger price increases. Can you comment on this?

I imagine part of that is just like raises in the working world. A 4% raise is bigger if you make more and less if you don't. Here, 5% raise of smaller premium vs a bigger one. The raises compound for the higher premiums. I also think N is a risk as you get older and need blood tests or something twice a week. If one can afford the G increases, it seems less stressful which is also medicine in its own right. That advise and $2 will get you a decent cup of coffee.

Brokers do earn a higher commission on Plan G and it is an easier sale. Theory is Plan G rates will go up faster because less healthy people will choose it because of the lack of co pays and excess charges. Just changed from different Plan N carriers (we are different ages) to same Cigna plan N getting a household discount and believing it was a larger carrier. Two months after 2024 coverage started, Cigna sold their supplement business to Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of the more expensive carriers whenever I looked into insurance programs in the past.
