Hi! I am an old lady (49) with waist length natural red hair (no grey!) and I love your videos. I’ve tried some of the Viking styles. Thanks for your videos!

Fellow old lady here (51) and I'm growing my hair longer so I can do some of these styles. One of the things I love about these styles is you don't have to be young for (most of) them to look great and age appropriate :)

Just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. I am very amateur when it comes to doing my hair (ponytails for life) and you make me feel like I can actually do something different with my hair. I’ve tried several styles now with great success! I am more confident knowing my hair looks good and I can actually do it myself

I'm definitely going to give lacing a try when I go to work at the salon! I'm a nail tech there, so if I can impress the cosmetologists with a style like this, it'll be so worth it!

Thank you so much for introducing the method of hair taping to me! I tried it out for the first time today and it holds the braids in place far better than any hair pins. Also it looks really neat without any hairpins sticking out and it is much more comfortable to wear. From now on I will use this method instead of hair pins whenever possible. Also, I love your videos and your gorgeous hair!

Lovely hairstyles! I will try Maddalena's but without the hairstick because it's not historically accurate. The series should have taken inspiration from the artists of the time and they would have seen that women wore mostly twisted hair tied with ribbons. I am part of a Renaissance reenactment group of the same period of Medici family and I checked the paintings of the time to reproduce the hairstyles (Piero della Francesca, Botticelli, Pollaiolo, Crivelli). Botticelli's Simonetta Vespucci has loose, wavy hair with wonderful braids and in Season 2 not even on her they reproduced one of them. Maybe you can try one from the paintings?

The style in the painting requires an impossible amount of hair. Nor would you want to actually wear that much hair even if you could achieve the style using extensions. You'd be liable to hurt your neck. However, various parts of the style would be achievable including the waves around the face. She has small augmenting braids going down her scalp to her ear, which then begin subtracting when there's no more hair to add. That's likely what creates the tassel effect. The ends of the braids are then looped back on themselves in a figure eight pattern and probably sewn down. To achieve the exact curl pattern she has, you need thick highly textured hair: but you can create the waves artificially. The way to create waves is to curl and then brush out. In this case particularly it's best to style before brushing out otherwise the braiding will be a nightmare. If you need artificial hair, horsehair is actually better than human: it's less prone to static and will give you the stiffer texture you want here. You can make the tassels and then attach them to your head, that would actually be fairly easy and it's certainly not inaccurate either.

@@sophiejones7727 which painting are you referring to? There are several! Back then, women had usually long hair and when needed they added extensions or padding. Personally I have 6 extensions made from my own hair and I'm waiting for 24" extensions. There are so many kinds of extensions nowadays that won't hurt the neck... check out The Borgias, which is a few decades after The Medici, and see how many hair pieces they used to achieve that look and hair thickness

@@manuela_esse ah, this is the one: artsandculture.google.com/asset/idealized-portrait-of-a-lady-portrait-of-simonetta-vespucci-as-nymph/GwFKQCuQs0yvFA?hl=en&ms=%7B%22x%22%3A0.5%2C%22y%22%3A0.5%2C%22z%22%3A8.512040369148112%2C%22size%22%3A%7B%22width%22%3A3.45847703313253%2C%22height%22%3A1.2374999999999996%7D%7D. It's not a question of length it's just that nobody has that MUCH hair on their head, even if they keep their hair really healthy (and back in the time of the Medicis, that was tricky even if you *were* rich).

If I hadn't had to cut my hair so short to make it look less scraggly (hormonal imbalance caused hair loss), I'd gladly try so many of these. Might have to try some on my friend's hair.

The sticks you mean? These are 6cm, 1cm diameter. Though I'd recommend these, as they're a really close match to the style of the sticks in the show: www.etsy.com/listing/509317982/turquoise-gemstone-hair-stick-brass-hair?ref=user_profile

You're so lucky to have light hair, when I do intricate styles so much of the detail disappears unless I'm in sunlight
@sophiejones77276 жыл бұрын
Even a very subtle difference in color or texture would help the eye follow the detail. You can use thread or ribbon to provide some color contrast. That is a very old hairstyling tradition, which really ought to be brought back. Another thing to do is to apply texture-spray to small sections of your hair, so that when the sections are woven together they catch the light differently.

Oooh I love those curls, I should get some curlers like that! How many curlers does it take to cover your whole head? I never know how many packs to buy! I also ordered your book!
@silvousplaits6 жыл бұрын
I have six of these, though my hair is thinnish and I wish I had a couple more (too much hair on one curler, and the hair doesn't dry very well). I'd recommend 8-12 maybe? Also depends on how large the curlers are. Hope you like the book!
