Actually we kinda have the O antigen its called H and then another sugar gets added to that and it becomes either A1 A2 or B i guess u kinda summarized it.

This was a nice basic video on ABO, though I expected a little more from you. I think you should update the content and go into blood transfusions and reactions. Also, In some videos they say you can't transfuse type O blood into any other type, but in some videos they call type O the universal donor and AB the universal recipient. This is due your expert treatment. thanks.

At 3:33 Why the use of the word "immunoglobulin" as represented by the codes IA, IB and IO in regards to talking about the 3 alleles (gene forms)? Aren't immunoglobulins antibodies? I thought the gene forms were named for the antigens or lack of antigens (eg: A,B & O) and how the alleles combine (dominate/recessive) to determine the phenotype. The word, immunoglobulin is what is confusing me in that part of the video. Is this the same as when I've seen Ii used on Punnett boxes? I'm sorry for my confusion! I'm very confused on that part. I know I'm not understanding like I should.
@39thala2 жыл бұрын
I was able to find this text online by someone named Matthew Champion, Staff Scientist with MadSci Network posted March 11, 2009: "There are Two primary alleles for blood type, A and B. There are actually several dozen more, but they are quite rare, and there are even subclasses of A and B themselves. From a Mendelian perspective, the use of the capital letter denotes dominant allele and the lowercase the Recessive. Eye Color is often denoted Bb (Heterozygous Brown) bb (Blue) etc. etc. I cannot locate the first historical use of the letter I(i) for blood alleles, but it is possibly a shorthand for *_isohemagglutinins, or immunoglobulin_* type." That still confuses me a little because I looked up both those terms and they both are related to antibodies. So, I'm still not understanding completely why they would be using the first letter of a word associated with antibodies to denote a blood genotype based on antigens. Hmm, oh well, I guess it will remain a mystery to me.
