To me, this is a funeral. A massive funeral at the end of a victorious war. Where you, the ruler, pay tribute to all your fallen soldiers. Sombre but dignified - as a monarch must be, even as he wonders if it was worth it. And when you hear this on the main menu? Those soldiers are no longer marching to war, they're marching to the afterlife...

That's all very compelling. 💯 Personally, every time 2:29 hits all I can picture is one scene, after a major battle, taking place on a hill at dusk in which a warrior is gazing at the sunset whilst on his knees and bleeding. Surrounding the darkness around him lie the bodies of friends and foes... and all he feels is pain, cold, and profound sadness knowing that Death is coming for him too... Either way, I love this part of the soundtrack. Upon reading your interpretation I've been moved as well. Cheers!
