What do you think? Was any of this new information? Is there something you'd like me to cover in a video?
@absolutecynic Жыл бұрын
I bought the game two days ago, so most of it was new to me..😅 I had no idea you could increase your carry capacity at all. I was wondering if there's a way to align your fields, to already existing infrastructure, or if it's better to place one field first and align everything else to it..? 🤔
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
@@absolutecynic The easiest way to establish straight lines and distance is by using fields but they align to cardinal directions and can't be rotated. So yes, use fields to establish straight lines and measure distances between structures if you want to build that way.

The Bob Ross of Sim Gaming lol Seriously though, I love how you walk through a process like this. You have a very calm, relaxed, yet confident way of speaking and teaching. Your village progress shots were really helpful in painting a picture of how to plan for the future. I'm a very indecisive perfectionist at times, so I tend to restart a lot in colony sim games like this due to new information making me regret layout or location. Funny thing is that the lake, right in that spot was the first place I built, right along the edge of the lake lol - should've gone with my gut and stuck out my first run lol

I really enjoyed this video, thank you. The only thing new for me was going to buy arrows, I usually have just used what I find in loot until I have the coins since Lesnica and Denica are quite dangerous for early game exploration. I usually go up to Baranica to get my backpack and pouch as it is much safer early game. As for other things for you to cover, I would like to see how you plan your settlement layout, your village/town is beautiful and this is something that I always struggle with in the game, knowing where to start placing the builds so that it makes more sense and flows nicely and maybe it needs to be across several video parts so that you can give tips on decorating as well. Thank you again for the tips and time. It's nice to see people still making video's for this awesome game since many of the tips and tricks video's are very outdated these days.

1st time playing. Was collecting berries in spring and summer. I built (2) compost bins. 1200 berries produce 1200 rot which I turn into 120 fertilizer. I get 240 between the 2 seasons. However, I now have 3 pigs - so I don't know if I'll need to compost berries.

Helpful! Wish I had seen this video before coming back to the game for the first time in 2 years. Now I'm going to have to start over again. I usually build at a bend in the river just west of Gostovia, but the lake does look like a much better place, and is in closer proximity to towns that have better trade items, anyway. The only thing I didn't notice, and you need so very much of it, are there reeds available at the lake, like there are along the rivers?
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
Yep, on the south east corner of the lake are reads/straw. Only about 180 or so, but they renew every season.
@brettorsborn2989 Жыл бұрын
Do you have a beginners video of getting through your first season and preparing for winter? I don't know what I should be building first, what does and doesn't happen during winter
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
I did, but it changed with the update so I'm working on a new one. The biggest thing you need to focus on is farming. I don't even build a house before I have a barn, you can sleep next to a fire if need be. I make 3 5x10 fields (as a 5x10 used to take one wooden hoe, now it takes more) as the 5x10 makes seed calculations easy. I try to do as much flax, oats and cabbage as I can first spring and fill at least 4 compost bins with unripe berries. At the change of season to Summer that will give you the rot needed to make 240 (150 for the 3 fields in Summer) fertilizer in the barn, which is why I focus on the barn first. The cabbage I use for creating rot in a compost bin later if need be, but also potage in the kitchen. Be sure to fill those compost bins with berries in the Summer, and more bins if you can and have more fields. Just keep expanding your fields as you can and you'll have the donkey shelter unlocked by winter. Oats and Rye are your cash makers and will get you into animal feed for the animals you'll get year 2, as well as the donkey. Next priorities are resource storage, house(s), wood shed, smithy, extraction hut (in that order) maybe a well if you don't have easy access to water. Get NPCs in those ASAP. Extraction hut focusing stone, wood shed: logs(50%), firewood(20%), sticks (10%, planks(15%) and smithy focusing stone tools. Do the hunting and cooking as you can to get your skill and exp up to unlock the smithy quick. Then build the hunters lodge, food storage and kitchen as you can after. You'll need to put food, water and firewood directly in the chest of each NPC's home until you get a resource building and food storage if you haven't already. Then it's just building the workshop, sewing hut and expanding with more homes, more npcs and more fields and livestock from there. I recommend not trying to rush to complete main story quests until year 2 or 3. Get yourself established with the basics and the game plays better, less running and pressure for time. If you come across warm clothes don't sell them. You'll definitely need a fur hood and fur boots for winter, or you'll be spending most of it indoors or with a torch out.

That is a nice location for a town. I used to build there too. More recently I actually moved west of there, across the river on that outcropping of land. It's way flatter over there and closer to the mine and clay pits so you don't need to do a separate living area for the miners and you're able to fit in more homes and farmland but it is slightly farther from the majority of towns. The fishing hut fits in the river too. Oh and for farming you want all your fields to always be small. Only one NPC can only perform each action on a field at a time so each field can have one fertilizing, one planting, etc. If you have a 100 tile field then it's going to take forever and you may have workers with nothing to do. I build 5x4 fields so all are 20 tiles and I just make many. In my latest game with a small settlement I have 13 fields because I do two fields of flax, oat, rye, and cabbage.
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
That area near the fork is nice and flat. I don't worry about being close to the mine, npcs will gather the same rate even if they spend all day walking to the mine. Just how the game works currently on PC. For farming, I often have 3 people working the same field (on PC), one will start spreading fertilizer, then one will come behind and cultivate, and one will come behind and seed. All working the same field at the same time, as long as it is big enough. So I don't think there is a too big currently. Thank you so much!

Can you go into detail heir skills? It appears that your child had exactly the same skills as the mom but you said the affection with kid makes the skills go up. Do they go up based off your skills? Like if you have a really high hunting but nothing else good does that make the heir hunting go up or does it just make random skills go up? What about with the villagers? I'm lead to believe that they are somehow magically a mix of the mom and dad with small bonuses but do we know how those mechanics actually work?
@sgtsylverАй бұрын
I wish I could. I'll need to go through multiple playthroughs or see if there is other research data out there. I don't know what the increase on heir skills is but it is based off of affection and triggers when they turn 18 and is likely based on your skills.
@xavierdoesntmatterАй бұрын
@@sgtsylver Well, I'm going to work on my own research at some point. I'm curious about both heir and villager kids and I feel like affection likely doesn't affect the villager kids. If you do get around to doing the research and making a video I hope I find it.

This is a great game, what I don't like about it is that it has no enemy. No war or battles or village attack by bandits.

Nice video, very informative, but I have one question, how did you build everything so lined up? When I try to build fences and Streets, it's always crooked and not in a straight line like your's
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
You can use crop fields or orchards to establish straight lines, they don't need to be completed (hoed) in order to act as a boundary. Then just remove the field when finished. Additionally, you can align your direction by using the compass and simply side stepping (strafing) to align your buildings, roads, fences, etc. Although I find it easier to use the forward/backward keys to place fences and roads.

So you’re telling me I’ve been digging up stumps for an extra log and having to walk farther and farther away for trees when they would’ve come back 🤦🏼♂️

Yep, on the 3rd year they will come back.

1. I saw you sleeping in the game . You don't sleep in this game. Its a waste of time. You got torch and healing potions. Just spend the night for unfinished fields or better production (food). Trust me, your wife is a developer's code only. She doesn't miss you in bed at night :) I know its romantic...but .. 2. Berries get you all the fertilizer you need. It takes minutes to pick for a bin 3. Farming makes most money.Autumn to Spring make Rye of total of 300sq.That would make you pure profit of 8000 coins.And that's just in between your flax(after) and cabbage later. Assign a worker or two for the grubbing, fertilizing and sowing and finish the rest yourself only. Don't bother with production, if you are after money.Waste of time. 4. End seasons in a cave, full to brim with ore. It will teleport you home 5. Another way to make money is poison. It takes just 5 nightshades , vial and water. Really easy to pick 6. Make clothes for the production exp only. Honestly prices are imbalanced on purpose for exp gaining reasons. 7. Make stone houses from the very beginning. More building exp. 8. Dont be in a hurry to get married. Flirt a bit first . This will raise your diplomacy, which is super hard to gain

Is there a reason to buy the recurve bow over the long bow? The longbow is cheaper and says it does 55 damage where as the recurve says it does 45, new to this game so just curious!
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
The recurve shoots faster. so better in my opinion against moving targets and Wisent. Either will drop a deer in one shot usually.

I am playing this game and my towns don't have these names or this map
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
There are two modes, single player and co-op. Single player has the Valley map and co-op has Oxbow. Co-op is the newer and can be played "solo". You're likely on Oxbow via co-op mode.

1) Sometimes you can take a, or possibly two foods, cook them, and raise their "decay level". 2) Hens give more eggs than geese, the opposite is true for feathers. (in my experience) 2a) The workers you have assigned to the animals feed them (Oat + Rye + Straw = animal feed (Generated in barn), and generate resources, but do not pick up: manure, nest items (see 2), or milk / shorn (trim) the animals themselves. That's extra money and resources for very little time. 3) To max mood with villagers, decorate both the inside AND outside of their house. Inside includes: floors, windows, walls and ceilings. Outside includes walls and the two end areas (You can put a relief up there). The cost of the item is irrelevant - just put SOMETHING there. 3a) Mood affects productivity. Significantly. The difference between a 90% mood resource generation and 100% mood is about 30%. 3b) You cannot raise mood with higher priority food. (I've tried with Cherry pies) 4) I like to cross train my villagers ("10's across the board" I call it). While they take a small mood hit, especially if moved to an area they don't like, as they level up, then spend the evenings in their house, their mood will improve. 5) Do not neglect the apprentice system. 6) When starting a new village, be prepared for two events: i) First winter, ii) First wave of pregnancies, specifically female worker loss due to two YEAR post birth. (Women will work until the day they give birth, then you lose them. 7) You can prioritize which food, drink and H2O your villagers consume.
