In this video I give specific details why everyone else is wrong in their opinion of where to build a village/town/city in Medieval Dynasty. I welcome counter opinions and discourse in the comments below.
*********
This was my first real video on the channel and it wasn't intended to be. It was a snarky retort to combat some of the misinformation available that creators choose to maintain for clicks rather than to provide genuine accurate information.

The only issue you run into with that spot, pre-farming, is the lake has no straw so you have to travel for it. Outside of that, I love that area. It’s beautiful, you have a private lake for fishing, and it’s relatively central in the map.

Dude, I started playing this game a week ago. I'm an older gamer, 39. Oblivion was my favorite console game when it came out. At 15 I started playing Ultima Online. The first successful mmorpg, long before WOW. My point is this, in my opinion, Midevil Dynasty is on par with Oblivion and Ultima Online. I can see myself messing around and playing this for a good year or two in real life. I'm sure it would be a great game 10 years from now.❤

Ultima was one of my first loved games, although it was the single player Ultima games before Ultima Online was available. But, I've got you by 10 years so when UO came around I was too busy playing Army to get into it. The Elder Scroll series is great but I couldn't say whether Oblivion or Skyrim is better. I agree that MD is great and definitely will hold its own over the next few years, possibly decade. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This is my absolute favorite place to build. The tavern is at the end of the little dead end path towards the water, with all the workplaces on that same side road. Then, i put all the houses all the way around the lake. My house is across the main road from the "worker alley" as i call it so i can sit on my front lawn each morning and evening and watch the parade of villagers coming/going. I love that the terrain is not completely flat so it doesn't look so artificial... like boxes on a table. The mountain views are spectacular! Keep up the great work, love watching your videos. You have the perfect calm, soothing voice for it. Cant wait to see what's next.

I am an older older gamer (73). I have started a game on a plateau above Gastovia. (Just west of the starting place.) I like it because of its close proximity to a mine. (A few hundred meters north.) BUT like you I don’t like the uneven ground. Since I like to have a mining/manufacturing town, I put up with it. I gotta say that I love the lakefront site and used it during early access play. God. I've built my town in the swamp to the North East. It's great for resources (rocks and sticks everywhere; there are three clay deposits nearby; lots of wildlife; and it's a Herbalist's dreamland). The only problem is space. There's water everywhere (it is a swamp afterall). But that's actually a challenge i really enjoy. Symmetry is almost impossible but I get a lot of really interesting parts to my town. It doesnt take too long for the place to start looking gorgeous, especialy once i start getting the hops and cherry trees in there.

First playthrough. East-South-East of Gostovia there is a waterfall with a lot of stone. Built there for the aesthetic. Started stone houses right from the beginning. The biggest problem was lack of flat ground. Ended up spreading the town out. The area east of Borowo was a farming area.

I do agree this is a great place to build. For mid-late game that is. Early game, there are so many quests that take you to Gostovia and you need a nearby market, I find my initial starter town is usually just west of Gostovia until I get a foothold, then I scout other places, eventually moving there.
@sgtsylver
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
That definitely works. I find Denica to be close enough to sell what I need to early on and has the merchants I need to get going. The most important being the farmer and the seamstress there. I think the quests become a matter of perspective based on game play. If you focus on the quests and prioritize their completion you can finish the game story line and side quests before you have much of a settlement, definitely before your heir comes of age. So if you come at it from a dynastic perspective you'll be mid game before the story quests really get that far. Being close to Gostovia, or any other specific village, gets lost when you are trying to get to every village in order to sell everything and make as much coin as possible. Additionally, it puts you pretty far from the southern villages where I tend to find the best NPCs, as well as needing to finish the Errand Quests that come up down there to get Dynasty points. But it really is nitpicking in reality. Whatever makes you comfortable and enjoy the game is what matters most. I really appreciate you sharing.

Thanks for the informative presentation. It's a great looking town you've built. Good luck with the next generation. 1st go I began near Gostovia, and it was a very bad site choice. Hint - never pick your site by torchlight. I ended up building in a tiny triangle of land, bounded by three roads. A village with three roads intersecting in the middle like that would've been nice, but the terrain was too challenging for me. Second shot, I'm halfway between the lake and the Northern towns, just left of the creek that runs North-South,

It is a great game! So intricate and detailed for such a small game. Like i think it's almost 5 gigs lol. And surprisingly cheap for what this game has to offer. Love this game, has everything i could possibly want in a medival survival game and adds city/generation builder into the mix. Not exaggerating when i say i think this game does it better than these triple A companies do. I might have to check that area out. Also thinking about building on the lake between hornica and jezerica. Lots of big game, stone is decent in abundance. Likewise the trees. And what happens to be my first priority in any base building game is if it looks good. This spot does have that. Might not be as flat as you'd like but haven't explored much in the area yet.

I totally see your point about the tree types for lumber. Ive built my major city on the spit of land between Denica and Tutki. This gives me easy access to three villages. However, my feeder hamlets are at Branica mine and the woodland flower meadow north of Borrowo. They each have a resource store and food store to boost storage, and the trees near the flower meadow forest have a good supply of Maple. I like your idea though and will try it next playthrough. First off thanks so much for you honesty and rant. I appreciate thease kinds of videos. I built on the the edge where you said you started your buildings then moved. Mine is on both sides of that creek as just up the creek was a waterfall with heeps of stone. Thougt now it is a city size I have come to hate that some homes are on post foundation and not solid. After building walls all the way around it and getting everything in some resemblance of what I wanted makes it hard to move off to a better location. Perhaps Now that Oxbow is coming soon to PS5 I will just do better on that one. As now it is just about complete the achievements. Once again thanks very much for you honest and forward state of mind, it is very much appreciated. I subscribed anyway 😂

I just recently got the game. I am one that will wonder all over the map looking for the perfect building spot. I came across that spot by the lake early on and liked the looks of it. But silly me ended up straight north along the big river and I hated it. Constantly running all over trying to find different materials. I did not want to give my progress on my existing town so I just put up with it. Next game I think I am going to focus on tool and weapon production with a town at the mine at Branica. Third game will be down by that lovely lake focusing on hunting and fishing. I just don't want to deal with managing several farming fields.

The way I play the game the lack of trees is never a problem. I only need enough trees for a house and the wood shed. All the logs after that are provided by the villager employed there. You get tons of wood,and you will never run out as long as you do other things in-between building. For example, when you are low on logs, do some quests, collect stones, focus on your farm, hunting, etc. I have a huge town now, and I probably cut less than 20 trees.

After a few false starts and a bit of tweaking of the settings, I am really starting to understand and get this game. The potential was obvious first time but has taken me awhile to get the hang of it. If I have one problem with it, it is that game play is a bit tricky, it doesn't feel instinctive. I still haven't got my head around managing buildings and people and I really struggled with hunger and thirst until I switched these off. Its a bit finicky and to avoid to much grind you really do have to change the game settings. I am onto my third attempt and am actually not to far from where you are, north west where the river kind of splits three ways. Its is a bit light on stone however. At least if I have to move, I won't have to go far. I do think this game has a lot of potential but I do think the game could be improved if it asks players if they are more interested in the survivalist grind or more the building aspect when it starts a new game and adjusts the gameplay for you, particularly if you're a new player.

I've done two saves in relatively the same area, just more along the south side of the lake, with most buldings next to the lake and my farms going up the hill on the other side of the road. I liked building around the main road there, made it look interesting once you get decorating with stone fences and lanterns and stuff. Generally agree that anywhere around that lake is the ideal location, and looks like they set it up just for that. On my first save, however, I picked the farthest corner of the lake in the southeast corner of the map, which was probably the most difficult location in the entire game due to being far away from every town, dangerous wildlife everywhere, and the terrain did not accommodate building at all. Turned out to be a very strange looking town when I was done, but it functioned, and the nearby mine was quite the boon, especially late game.

I never got a very big town in my first two attempts (10-12 villagers) and usually too poor to afford animals still , my first town was west of Borrowo on the southern riverbank crossroad because it felt like a centered location on fairly flat land, but it just looked like a strip of houses along the pre-existing road with not much thought to it. Second playthrough I decided to scout most of the map and picked a fairly flat mountain location halfway between the lakes of Denica and Hornica, because it had a very natural path/mountain framing the town look, it looked awesome walking back into town while it was still small, but the more I built, and the more the view felt obstructed, and the layout random. I was trying to find my own favorite spot rather than the ones suggested by everyone out there, but the end result was I quickly wanted to abandon it :D Your town looks absolutely amazing. I like how it feels each house has decent enough space around them while still feeling quite tightly knit together... I wanted to wait for the co-op update in the hopes of starting over with a friend, but not knowing when that'll happen, you may have just given me the itch to start in that location. Have you got any idea how long that town took to build ? I always have grand plans and then want a new start after 50h or so.
@sgtsylver
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
I've not regretted this location and it never made me feel like it wasn't enough space or the right "look". It can develop pretty easily using the terrain and the trees as "guides" and there are enough obstacles with the large rock formations that make you get creative. As for time, I probably have 100 hours into this playthrough, at least. I have over 700 hours total in game play but at least 25% of that is the game just being idle as I get called away to do real life things. There were two other play through attempts, one at the start of early access release and another at a major update point. I would love to see what you build so keep me updated.

IN the past i always went west of Gostovia south of the island, but was trying a suggestion, wish I would have seen your video first. Debating starting over and slowing down vs trying to move.
@sgtsylver
@sgtsylver Жыл бұрын
Moving isn't that bad if you put a resource building at the new spot before destroying buildings at the old location. That way the two resource buildings will share the inventory allowing you to easily build new buildings at the new location. You'll possibly only get 50% resources back, unless you have the perks to get more. If you don't have the perks to get any resources back I wouldn't move until you do. I moved 2 times before being at this location. But, sometimes starting over has some appeal to. I don't think there is a right or wrong. I appreciate the participation! Thank you for watching!

I actually like the spot right north of Denica. Its flat enough and there are enough tree's and resources if you don't try to go all the way to the river. I put the farmland closer to the river, along the road from Deneb to cross the river north west. Then when I want to buy or sell at the beginning of the season, or want to look for a new villager, I can run up and hit all the northern towns and end in Gostovia, then its a long haul home from there. Or I can fast travel to Deneb and just walk home.

Really impressive! I have been playing Satifsfactory for about a year now and with over 1200 hours of play time in my still first playthrough, I am able to build great and impressive structures exactly to my liking. Comparable to what you show in your video in Medival Dynasty. Satisfactory is the most impressive game I have ever played. As part of the Steam Summer Sale, I have now also bought Medival Dynasty. Hoping to have a comparable gaming experience to the one I had and still have with Satisfactory. I like the medieval setting. I'm also playing Crusader Kings 3 with over 600 hours of play. Seeing your city here makes me know how to define my goals and what is possible in this game. I look forward to maybe one day being able to achieve what you can. Thank you for your videos.

I have played this game since shortly after it was launched and yes on the original map I intuitively based my settlement where you have, as you say best balance of rslesoyrces and town proximity for selling (before access to markets). Moved on to Oxbow map now and enjoying new location and quests.

@andrewkent4913
@andrewkent4913 11 ай бұрын
@sgtsylver Oxbow I feel is slightly more oriented towards quests and focuses mostly around starting location. The valley feels slightly larger and more open world - also there are more settlements, so some of the focus of the valley is travelling around the map for their resources. I would say the valley is ultimately about dynasty and raising a family, whereas Oxbow is more about individual quest styles. My favourite quest in Oxbow is the one where a villager starts believing he is an NPC in a computer game.

I picked up Medieval Dynasty during the latest Steam sale and I'm having a great time. Right now I'm at a 10 building limit, so I'm just at the beginning stage and I've run into the drunk/stoned chick in my chapter progression. I have to make her a potion before I can advance further or find a vendor. Right now I'm building my settlement to the NW of Gostovia, close to the river and fairly close to 3 of the northern towns for trading, just southwest of the 2nd land bridge northwest of Gostovia. The resources are plentiful where I am and there's lots of flat land. The biggest gripe I have with the game is the lack of a solid tutorial to learn game mechanics. I had to look up how to do even basic crafting. I suppose I could read all the text but that's a drag. Nowadays I expect my tutorials to be full on video experiences. Fortunately, there are many KZbinrs who also enjoy the game and have documented how to do the basics, which is all I want whenever I get stuck.

My first big village was just west of here, across the river from Lesnica. The area aligns nicely with the crop grid, and has a fair amount of space. You end up having to have a wide/long village, and spreading across the river a little if you want everything in one place, but it was nice. It's all a steady slope until you get closer to the mountains. I definitely like your spot, tho. There's more room, and absolutely beautiful views. I'll prolly build here in my current game, but I might experiment with splitting my village up so there will be more space for each building, and aesthetic orchards aplenty. I wonder if they'll eventually add foundation customization like the walls have. When I returned after a long hiatus, I thought that was a thing but was sad to remember correctly after a little trying. Another thing I'd love to see is some kind of ground-cover we can put where we want it, like a grass.

Not a bad spot for sure. Although personally i like the area just south of the second bridge to the west of the starting town. There is an obscene amount of trees located here. The trees are mostly birch and maple. Set up a couple villagers to focus on rock and maybe hunting and you can literally spend all day cutting down trees. You can also do the reverse of that and set up a satellite mine in the north cave. I have my seasons set to 7 days and it stays a constant foresty sim honestly. Its also not hard to get to the cave up north. Just cross the bridge, hang a left until you see a creek and follow it north directly to the cave. I like to set up a few houses and a storage point. Great building spot directly in front of the mine. Both areas are pretty flat, not as flat as the flood plain where you originally started, but good enough. Back to the main area, Moose is plentiful just south of that. If you start bulding right by that bridge near the river and just expand south and west. The forest kind of hides how good the spot is. I don't recommend building much on the east side of the road that goes south as it doesn't take long for the terrain to become annoying to build on. Granted the view isnt as good as that lake, but its really convenient early game and develops nicely as you progress in the game. If you put all your vital storage and workshop's between the river and the road it makes expanding and planning your town in the future much easier as you will inevitably start resituating things. Ohh one side note. The east side of that road leading south is excellent for several large farms early on. I started with just one 10x10 plot but ended up doing four 10x10 with the farming post kinda in the middle, which made me insane amounts of money. Roughly 1200 Cabbage plus the abundant meat to make potage(one 10x10 plot)...... I honestly didn't know what to do with so much cabbage the first time i did that, and completely wasted over half of it.

That lake location doesn't seem very realistic for early game travel time. Sure, that's a great location to build at - but maybe more geared toward later on, once you get your hands on the stables. Which won't be for several years. Another thing to consider is the look we want our township's environment to have. Personally, I like trees. Lots of them. I also really like the river. So, my favorite building location currently happens to be around the second bridge west of Gostovia. Farmland lines up perfectly well if one moves farm production a little more to the west, where the land is a bit more clear. Meanwhile the village proper sits within a mass of beautiful pines and maples, with a lovely view of the bridge and river. The ground does get a little hilly the further south you go, but that's not much of an issue for me. And the location also gives two beautiful pre-built roads to work around. I also have a habit of making a small mining village up at the Branica cave. I think the "best" way to build, would probably be to pick an area with an aesthetic that pleases you, and then keep your village relatively small (not tiny). Why build a huge metropolis in one single location, when you have a whole map of potential? Thanks for sharing your favorite spot. You perhaps could have been a bit less antagonistic in your video description, though. :) Even if you're actively trying to spark debate...

Opinions are not becessarily right or wrong. Since the game game out a lot of people have expressed their opinion on which spot is best. I do like your spot fo a secondary village but it has its issues, just like every other spot on the map.My personal favorite is by the 2 bridges north of Denica. All around it has the fewest limitations, hunting is close, 2 patches of reeds close, not too far to get to the Branica Mine, lots of flat area for farming, enough trees to get you started and until you hire a lumberjack, but not too many for when you need to expand later on.

Edit all that said. i do feel if most give these slower paced games a real chance. and have someone to play with. many would quit pvp games. another side note. i recently played pvp mmo game for 5 weeks. was shown just how toxic, nasty, depressed, suicidal most the players are. and its funny how they say they come for the therapy.... lol but it doesnt help them get better and never will. they surround themselves with like minded broken child like minded adults. and because everyone acts like braind dead, suicidal morons. they think its normal and ok.......when its NOT. best thing u can do is quit those style of gamse. probably gaming in general. go out find healthy minded adults. learn how to talk, and deal with world like an adult
