Great video Matthew. I worked in health care my whole life. Most folks don't know that when you get admitted to a hospital, you sign a big stack of forms. One of those forms gives the hospital permission to put a lien on your home. If your not insured, or under insured, a lien on your home can force the sale or could lead to medical bankruptcy. Good insurance is so important. Thank you for your great presentations.

@@leslieberkower8163 Medicare Advantage Plans are not cheaper than Medicare supplements. In fact, a long term study by kff.org showed that people with supplement plans had lower healthcare costs (including premiums) over their lifetime. Plus, one very big mistake is to assume that an Advantage Plan has equal coverage to Medicare plus a supplement. It does not. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWXbiXyAj8qmb9E Advantage Plans are designed to be roughly equal to Medicare A & B (plus D ) without a supplement. I now understand after listening to you, that he doesn’t need to apply for Medicare when he turns 65. I am a retired government worker. Upon retirement at 62 and onward to 13 years later I have skipped B because it was not mandatory. I keep a private insurer for full coverage , except A, where the private insurer becomes secondary. That all changes in 2024 whence I am mandated into Medicare B. Since the move to Medicare B is mandatory, there will be no 10% penalty per year. I will take original Medicare plus plan G, no question.

Matt, thanks so much for making it easier to understand the alphabet soup of medicare. It is my understanding that here in Washington state I would not have to undergo underwriting if I were to switch from an Advantage plan to a Supplemental plan, nor would I have to undergo underwriting for switching between Supplemental plans. (seems to good to be true)
@MedigapSeminars Жыл бұрын
That's mostly true. "In Washington State, any Medicare beneficiary who already has a Medicare supplement, except Plan A, can switch to another supplement except Plan A at any time and without medical underwriting. A Medicare beneficiary with Medigap Plan A can only switch to a Medigap Plan A from a different insurer. *The above only applies to those who have an existing Medicare supplement plan. To switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare supplement plan a person will likely need to qualify via medical underwriting.* " www.insurance.wa.gov/when-can-i-sign-or-switch-medigap-plans

One of the best videos ever made on Medicare. My only complaint is the sound effects during the time you want people to subscribe to the channel. That sometimes create a pretty big distraction and I lose track of what you were trying to say, but regardless, this video is very complete. I had already decided to only go wit a supplemental plan and this re-enforces that.

Hi! Do you accept customers under 65 & yet eligible for Medicare (via having received SSDI two years)?
This video cleared up so much for me, thank you a ton!!

Very Very Good summation of the most bizarre...yet important... health decision process ...that we...who are turning 65...must make. 5 star summary (much gratitude) of a system that appears to be totally illogical. Laden with land mines and Intentionally confusing, misleading, and opaque...yet is underlying necessary and generous...if you make the right choices. Universal Health Care (all other advanced nations have it--ALL) would eliminate all of this nonsense and weed out the private corporate predators.

Actually, Original Medicare plus a supplement eliminates the private interest. It puts your care in your hands.

Universal Health care is like the advantage plans. You and your doctor are not making the decisions about your healthcare.

Another great video, much appreciated. I would like to have seen even a general cost comparison for a person in good health/few prescription between Medicare+MSP+PartD and MAP +bundled PartD and a similar comparison for a person in poor health/several prescriptions. I have some questions: 1. if most MAPs cover 80% cancer costs, why do you need to check for this or were you just making the point that if this spans two years? 2. How to you avoid a gap in health services? If you retire at 65 and your existing health cover stops then so you have to enroll in medicare in the 3 months prior to 65 so that Medicare starts immediately? 3. Related to #2. If your spouse (younger) and kids are on your existing health plan, what happens to them? 4. Not a question, just a comment.@28:08 "Theres never any pre-existing nor medical questions for a MAP!". This sounded like a "benefit" but when you think about it, the ins co dont need underwriting because they have total control to restrict or deny your benefits under a MAP. 5. Since Part A costs nothing (for most ppl), is there any disadvantage of enrolling for part A if you continue working past 65 for an employer with 20+employees with creditable insurance? 6. If you have a MAP, so you still have to pay deductible/copays that would have been due for Part A under original Medicare? If so, is there an MSP that covers this situation or with MAPs are you liable for these costs. (Hospitals can place liens!)

Thank God, I had a localrepresentitive who was very upfront about all of this information so most of it is not new to me, but to a lot of people, especially ANYONE who has any known chronic health issues it is critical that you have these conversations prior to turning 65. 1 year after turning 65 you may not even be insurable if you haven't had and understand what you are signed up for and how they work. I believe the government is about to step in and make some changes but who knows how long that will take and what actually they will change if anything. I certainly don't want our government choosing my health care benefit options! They have their noses and cameras in way more than I belief they have a right to now and it's only getting worse weekly. Seniors, please do your homework. This can have an effect on the rest of your life and the health care benefits you receive and/or out-of-pocket expenses you can and will be made liable for. One major hospitalization can totally wipe you and everything you own out.
