For everyone asking about varnish over the pigment powder-I personally don't use any varnish to set it, I don't like how it changes the effect/look of the powder so I'm just careful where I apply it so it's not where I handle the model/terrain for gaming etc!

Ok; but if you *did* spray varnish it what product would you recommend please?
@emanueledibona59292 жыл бұрын
@@ThaDenz69 do not varnish it, it will change pigment properties. You can use AMMOMIG's enamel fixer. Use it BEFORE applying the pigments, then sprinke some over it. It will be mostly powdery once it dries.

@@ThaDenz69 Air brush thinner works fine. Personally I apply powder, fix it, and then wait for it to dry completely before adding more as needed as fixing darkens the effect. Don't fix the second pass. It always falls off to some degree unfixed, even just as a display piece.

I think I’ve figured out what makes your videos so great. It seems you’re really landing the 80/20 rule, where you’re doing the 20% of the work that’s giving 80% of the results. Because your way always comes across as uncomplicated and achievable, and not tedious, while still producing amazing results. And though I’m inspired by many painting channels, yours is one of very few I would actually use as a reference before/while painting. Keep up the great work! 👏👍

Sounds perfect. I love backdrops. Especially for photos.

Another good video, thanks for sharing. Do you find weathering powders rub off easily or do you use some sort of sealant?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
I don’t seal the powder personally, I’m just careful handling them and don’t apply them where my hands will be! Thanks so much man, appreciate it

This looks great, one of the best schemes I've seen so far. I'm gonna hit the non broken lights with florecent paint so when I do lights out missions I can use a black light and they glow. Just thought it would be a fun little detail

Glad you liked it and that sounds like a great idea with the Florescent paints. That should be so cool to play in.

Im thinking about giving the screens a black undercoat with a green glaze/wash, hoping to achieve a similar effext (and sell the analog feel).

This is awesome, thank you! I am just embarking upon painting up my AoO Boarding Actions set and this video helps to focus the pathway forward (with my personal touches added!). Q: I have not used the weathering powders before such as the red and orange rust applied in this video. Do you have to apply some matt spray to fix it into place so it doesn't rub off or does it cure well on its own?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
It is best to spray on a mat varnish at the end to hold it in place.

Hi, great video. Can I ask, did you spray the terrain with the doors in place? Did this affect the hinges? Going to follow your technique as it seems so quick and results look great.
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Yep sprayed in place and no spray is very thin so no obstruction

nothing to fix the powders to stop them rubbing off?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Nope, I personally don’t use varnish, I don’t like how it looks on the powder and I don’t have much issues with it coming off, just be careful handling it!

does anyone know if runelord brass could be used as a substitute instead of warplock bronze?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Any of the paints can be substituted in, my tutorials are more about the steps rather than specific colours, if you’d prefer runelord brass then go ahead! It will give a slightly warmer end result but it will still look great!

So did you feel the need to sand? I did after I felt things were a wee bit too too tight. I do intend to try something like this after I get shadow vaults. I based the first set in ivory over brown primer… but I do intend to use the contrasts and possibly dirty down rust…
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Yep a bit of sanding was required on some parts not everything.

Can I ask Andy, how are you sealing the weathering powders down, I’ve used a light spray of GW seal but it’s a bit heavy and blurs the pigments out a bit
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
I’m not. I just apply the powder. I’m not a fan of what varnish does to the powder so I avoid it.
@caduceus1432 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the inspiration - do you seal this with anything?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I don’t seal my powders-I don’t like how it looks after so I’m just careful with where I apply it and how I handle the models/terrain for gaming!
