Tip for everyone: You don't need any app, you don't need any equipment, you don't need to be in any specific position or whatever. To meditate you just need to seat comfortably or lay down, set the simple timer on your phone for 10-30 minutes, close your eyes and focus on your breath. That's it. Don't let anyone ever tell you that you need special app, subscription, etc....
@wuziwu81482 жыл бұрын
Meditation can be even less complicated. You can meditate when walking, you can meditate with eyes open, and you can meditate without a timer. All you need is to anchor your attention on a stimuli, internal or external. You could meditate on the sound of birds, the feeling of the breeze etc.

@@Astamor Mindfulness is just meditation in ordinary life for snapshots of time. It is more difficult and less practical, I do not suggest doing meditation this way but if one is going out for a 10minute walk one might as well be mindful (meditate) during the process. My point is that there is no line between meditation and ordinary life.

I am a brain tumour survivor, 2 years now, and have been suffering from trauma since the operation like many of us do. Meditation has been paramount to my recovery. I have only begun doing meditating for about 4 months, every evening, for 10 minutes. The video that gave me the most inspiration is the TED talk video by Andy Puddicombe. I don't want to hijack Aperature's video by linking it, but it's an invaluable video that hospital authorities use in their trauma classes. I'm very glad to see meditation getting more attention, and so happy Aperature did a video. Thank you!

I meditate to enjoy the present and not to improve myself. This was the key to and the right balance. I always used meditation before as an escape to life’s problem but it caused much more conflict. But now I realized it simply this and really nothing complicated and nothing to grasp. Reaching enlightenment, better mind, peaceful life. You don’t have to have that in mind while meditating but being present as it is makes you feel content on what it is right now. I started deep breathing and meditating since May 2021 due to one episode of work related PTSD I experienced. I won't lie that it was very difficult to calm myself and I did not feel any immediate relief then but I consistently kept doing it everyday. My ways and rules of breathing and meditating kept changing till a point I found my perfect fit. Fast forward to today, I reflect back and I see the difference and trust me its huge. I stopped day dreaming and I am more aware of my surrounding, I sleep well and have vivid dreams (I write all of them down). I respond to hard situations (similar hurdles as before) rather than reacting like I used too. I have less bad days and negative feelings because I don't exaggerate them any more and I handle it very easily. Meditating to me now is a very strong habit. I can do it for hours at stretch and I completely fall into my self and disconnect from my surrounding and when I open my eyes and re connect, it the most blissful feeling ever ( its more blissful if I'm meditating outside surrounded by trees, drenched in rain and when the winds are strong). I also read somewhere that through meditating, conscious breathing and deep sleep our mind biochemically cleanses it self of toxins and inflammations in our body heals.

I simply stopped working for a day and meditated for 1 full hour without thinking about anything stressful. When I checked my BP again, it was 111/81. Just imagine the ECG, 2D echo scans, stress test and several other lab procedures that I had to undergo if I went to the hospital. All I needed was a moment of silence in solitude to feel better. And that's just one method. There is another where it kind of has the opposite effect, not sure how it's called but instead of focusing on your breath, you try to not think at all, and of course thoughts would arise and then you gently let them go without judgement and that should make us more present well then your brain will rewire to not mind wander, so then we can focus better on our sorroundings. It's a very difficult thing to get results from i think but i know that eventually i'll get better at it.

Actually Buddha taught meditation not for Spiritual Awakening. From his 6 years of experiment, he figure out 4 noble truths and 8 noble path for attaining "Nibbana". The Pali word "Nibbana" means cessation of all sufferings but later after the death of Buddha, Brahmins people mistranslated word "Nibbana" into Sanskrit word "Nirvana" and so on it's meaning also changed that is related to spiritual awakening. And in English, it was changed into "Enlightenment" What I mean is in core Buddhism teaching, there is no concept of spirit/soul, reincarnation, heaven & hell. If you find any of these in Buddhism, please know that it is not core teaching of Buddha and added or manipulated later by other people, especially Brahmins of India to show Buddhism as a part of Hinduism. But in reality it's not but Hinduism is diformity of Vajrayana Buddhism.

This is a stellar synthesis of meditation but the neuroscience you've referred to has been expressed inaccurately. You correctly pointed out the associated regions of the DMN but you didn't articulate its function correctly. The DMN is predominantly active when the brain isn't experiencing an intense cognitive load, this can be generally described as the mind wandering when a demanding task is not present. The DMN is essential when it comes to psychologically articulating our self perception and worldview but it often manifests as a crutch for many because they don't have the capabilities to consciously intervene with the assertions it's making. This is why meditation has been shown to decrease DMN activation, as our ability to reflexively halt spiralling thoughts grows the DMN becomes less salient as an underpinning of our everyday thinking styles.

I'm not against meditation, but I still remember that Yoga was popularized by scam guru's, it's not that yoga or meditation itself is wrong, just be careful not to pay anything for it, you can literally do it yourself or more apt way to say is learn the ropes until you get it just the way you want it. In my own experience most people don't tend to take your advice seriously even if you were a certified health care official (doctor, etc.) On the other hand, If they believe, learn and have faith in it by means of themselves they tend to stick to it for unexpectedly long.
