I've been to Greece this summer. We were lucky to find a tiny village with a restaurant in the village square. The lady who ran the place didn't even have a menu. She would cook something every morning and let you choose from her dishes what you wanted to eat. Everything that she prepared was made with ingredients from her garden and was simple and delicious. Fun fact: she was 70 but looked no older than 50👏😍 I shall remember that lunch for a long time!
@markosverdhi2 жыл бұрын
In greece, menus are only really a thing when you go to the americanized places or the super upscale places. In my village in southern Albania, we know the owners of the 2 restaurants there and they will let you know what they're making for lunch&dinner ahead of time. It's just a different culture, as a result of the homogenous culture. Everybody eats the same things

Congratulations for your channel. As a mediterranean woman, born and living in Barcelona, I must say that the information you give about mediterranean cuisine is very true. I think your videos can help many people to improve their health. A part of the big role of extra virgin olive oil, I would also like to mention the importance of garlic in our meals. It has antiviral properties and many others. My grandfather used to eat an entire raw clove of garlic every day. We don’t hesitate to put it in many dishes, normally cooked, but sometimes even raw cut in very small pieces or rubbed on a good loaf of toasted bread. Even in many traditional catalan restaurants, they serve some toasts and give you a small dish containing some cloves of garlic and some juicy tomatoes so that you can rub the garlic and the tomatoe on the bread and finally you put the olive oil on it. It is very delicious and healthy.

I’m Australian and we have a similar problem as the US with regards to adulterated olive oil (honey too it turns out). I buy Australian grown and 1st cold pressed olive oil that I am very confident isn’t adulterated. I wonder if that isn’t as good as a Mediterranean type though? Our climate can be very similar to the Mediterranean (depending on the exact region)… I also cook almost exclusively with olive oil I just don’t like the smell and taste of any other oil. They all have a chemical smell to me. I’m glad that I haven’t been wrong to do that. I suffer from chronic illness and am now looking to turn to this diet. I am excited (and nervous) to get started and am glad to have found your channel.
@Mediterraneanliving2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. My guess is that the olive oil in Australia, as long as it is very good quality, is as good as olive oil in the Mediterranean.
@Pandorash82 жыл бұрын
@@Mediterraneanliving thank you so much for replying :) I actually just tried 1/2 teaspoon neat and it tasted fruity then a few seconds later there was a mild peppery taste and burn to the throat. So I take that as a good sign! Any Aussies also watching, the oil I have is Red Island extra virgin olive oil. I buy it from Woolworths and typically aim to buy two bottles when on sale to save money as it is more expensive that most other olive oils. If anyone else knows of another good one, please share :)

How much does geographical climate play into health and longevity? Because every blue zone location, has perfect weather year round- I didn’t clue in to the link until you mentioned Finland, which is a completely different climate zone (not going to stop me from trying this diet for my health, but this might help me talk my husband into moving 😁)
@Mediterraneanliving2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, studies have shown that people who eat Mediterranean have the same benefits no matter where they live. One of the Blue Zones is in Pennsylvania which is definitely a cold climate like ours in New England. Getting year round fresh vegetables is usually the issue in cold climates.
