Medjugorje Beginners Fasting Bread Recipe

Many pilgrims have been asking for this Medjugorje bread recipe. We decided to film a local making it. Strict fasting bread doesn't contain eggs, yogurt or milk so this is for beginners. Fr. Slavko explains the importance of fasting as you watch the cook prepare it.
Recipe:
- In a small bowl add a teaspoon of sugar, 3 teaspoons yeast,
a tablespoon milk and let rise.
- In a large bowl mix 4 cups of flour, a small packet of baking powder,
a pinch of salt, 2 eggs, a small bowl of yeast, 1 cup of plain yogurt,
2 cups of warm milk.
- Coat the dough with a little sun flower oil and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough, cut into squares, and fry in sun flower oil.

This a beginner’s fasting bread recipe.
Strict fasting bread consists of flour, water, yeast, and salt.
Our Lady calls us to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays
(unless it is a feast day).

I made this and it was very good, however I think there is to much liquid- mine i had to add some flour. Is 2 cups of milk and 1 cup of yogurt correct???

Thank you for the recipe... I fasted on WEDS and FRI's for a few years (I used packaged bread in the USA) and I got so fat especially in my stomach and I could not lose it. Is this common?

Best to make your own bread at home using just 3/4 ingredients. Packaged bread contains more ingredients to preserve the bread which might explain the weight gain?! Home-made bread is healthier and fresh to eat. I use wholemeal flour. If GF, l suggest GF type flour like rice flour or something as a substitute flour? God bless!

The recipe above is for frying the bread in sunflower oil, not baking.

One is yeast that was mixed with sugar and little milk and one is backing powder that came in a small pouch.

@@StellaMarFilms Do you know how much baking powder in a "small packet" amounts to and how much yeast is a "small bowl of yeast" amounts to (ie, how many Tablespoons or teaspoons)? I have only seen baking powder sold in containers, never in small packets. I would really appreciate more specific measurements because I am not a very good baker - I can only follow recipes with exact measurements when baking. Thank you so much!

according to google these pckets are very small in ounces maybe even a 1/4 tsp so would be helpful

Our staple food is rice and fish. I wonder if instead of your bread recipe, I could just fast on rice and water. Isnt your bread too nutritious for a fast?

There are a variety of recipes for home made bread, such as simply using flour, pinch of salt and water , and a bit of olive oil if wishing to add to the mixture, that’s it. Yoghurt added into the bread mixture is news to me but l think it is used for filling the tummy or to make the bread softer/moisture to eat?!🤷‍♀️
