I’ve been to Medjugorje many times. I was talked into it by a friend who knew he had limited time left to live, so I joined the pilgrimage in a state of disbelief and a feeling of great anger because I had agreed to go. Within a day of getting there I was overcome with an unrelenting desire to go to confession, something I had not done for years. I became engrossed in the beautiful services and went to confession, and found my love for Jesus my saviour. Is it false or is it for real, I don’t care for opinions, I believe Our Lady is there and I brought my own faith home. 🙏

It’s puzzling. I don’t believe in the apparitions in Medj. I’m an old grouch. I think the goal is to crush the faith of those who believe when it comes to light that it’s not genuine, and the other aim maybe to draw attention away from Fatima. But I know many thousands of people who have visited there are deeply faithful and sincere.

I was first brought to Medjugorje when I was 4 in 2003. My mother was searching for peace after my dad died a year prior. She brought me and my older sister along. That was the start of my love for Medjugorje. It is true. The disobedience predates the seers by hundreds of years. The Franciscans set themselves in opposition to the bishops long before the so-called apparitions. Most westerners have no idea of the weird history there. You know there is another Marian shrine not 30 miles from Medjugorje that predates Medj? Yeah, the Franciscans hated it being there. There’s weird centuries-old blood feuds too. It got worse after Medjugorje visions. There are priests who used to be proponents of the visions who have left the “game” so to speak because they felt there was something demonic there. I was told by a priest who credited his vocation to Medj that it’s common for confessions to be heard by priests who don’t have ANY FACULTIES at all. So people who think they’ve confessed and think they’ve had their sins absolved actually have not. This is very serious. Do you think Fr. Ripperger, Taylor Marshall, Timothy Gordon, Patrick Madrid, Patrick Coffin, etc etc, are all wrong because you feel warm and fuzzy when you go there?

@@felesamabilis Emotionalism is heretical. The Charismatic Movement is closely tied to the Pentecostal movement. My grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher and when Medjugorje began my mom got very excited about it, but soon the accounts showed the flaws and contradictions. Crisis Magazine followed it very closely at the time and it was pretty shocking. Now there’s confirmation bias at work and people drift into it and just accept that the conflicts are somehow political. St. John of the Cross said that Satan loves when the devout run after private revelation. A priest friend of mine said it’s a demonic plan for believers who seek novelty. Novelty is another sickness of our age. That the seers can “laugh and chat” with the BVM *on demand* is ridiculous.

@@rosezingleman5007 How irrelevant our feelings are in such matters, let me tell you on my own example related to another Marian shrine. of recognized apparitions - Fatima. I spent 3/4 of my life in the shadow of the so-called Silesian Fatima. We were there for the patron festival at least once a year, mostly for the biggest in Maz, not counting various other occasions, Therefore the topic of the apparitions in Fatima was known to me from the cradle and is very close to me ever since Therefore, on the occasion of my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, it was obvious that since I am so close, I absolutely must go to Fatima. And? And it was one of the biggest disappointments in my life. First impression - some kind of bunker covers the square in front of the basilica, fortunately this "church" was not open then yet. Right behind it is the chapel of adoration and confession in the style of subway toilets. Further there is a black wall from which fire and smoke erupts, and people are throwing wax body parts there. I thought it was an illustration of the vision of hell from the July apparition ;) Even the old basilica in dirty white with an undefined image in the altar made a rather negative impression on me, although better than what was before her. But in the next moment the security man mocked me about my hat and did not tolerate the discussion, I had to take my hat off. How absurd. If I were to rely on my experiences, I would have to admit that there was no Mother of God in Fatima: D Well ok, I was a bit moved, at the evening candlelight procession. Evening, candles, singing are obvious elements influencing emotions. But that's not even that. I was touched because at that moment I felt like a child in processions in our local Fatima shrine. So when I read: if you want to speak about Medjugorje, you have to go there and experience it, I just want to laugh. If I based on my experiences at Fatima, I would have to consider it a fake.

I'm sorry, but the people who do not accept it have gone there and investigated, and the Church has investigated and the apparition still remains unapproved. It's clearly not the Virgin Mary because it speaks heresy and manifests demonic characteristics. "All religions are equal before God " is a heresy it taught as reported in many sources including the article "The Facts of Medjugorje" on the website "The Catholic Counter-Reformation". Of particular note is the section "VULGARITIES, DISTURBING QUIRKS" which describe many unwholesome behaviors in the apparition from it's shaking hands, spontaneous giggling, a black butterfly that accompanies it, it's desire to be touched and kissed, and it's lack of feet.

Fr Leon speaks sense. It is not for us to condemn what Mother Church has not condemned. It is not for us to declare it authentic either. What each one of us should seek are opportunities for encounters with Christ in our everyday lives. For some of us this might include that encounter by a pilgrimage to this site, in a spirit of encounter. If that revives something within our faith then it is a positive thing. It is too easy to be dismissive but also there is a danger of misinterpreting what was reportedly said. This is one area where I do not entirely agree with Fr Leon. Interpretation cannot be individual but must be guided by authoritative teaching or else each of us risks misguiding others. Individual spiritual encounter though is what I think he was getting at and any call to Christ has to be a good thing.

One thing that did happen to me after one of my trips just as I was thinking of returning to the Church. I couldn't sleep one night so got up made a cup if decaf coffee and took it up to bed. I had been praying to our Lord and our Lady and saud - if there is something here ( Medjugorje) give me some sort of sign that its okay , that I'm not doing something wrong. The next morning as I lifted the cup to take it downstairs, I glanced into the cup to make sure it was empty . I dropped the cup onto my bed and to be honest I did swear as I was a bit shocked. Looked again inside the cup, used a tissue to dry up a tiny bit of liquid that was there and then I seen it. There was at the bottom of the cup what looked like Our Lady in the grotto. I showed the cup to at least 10 people and asked them did they see anything ( without saying what I had seen) and 9 out of the 10, said the same thing as me. I kept the cup unwashed for a few years until I took it down one time to show a workman that was working in my house , afterwards set it on my work surface in the kitchen and then accidentally washed it. I could have cried.

The largest Catholic Tour Operator in the United States resided in Huntington, California. The Queen of Peace Ministry was run by Peter K Miller. The Queen of Peace Ministry offered a holiday in Medjugorje starting from 955 dollars up to 2565 dollars. In addition, Peter Miller offered, for an extra 500 dollars, a private meeting with the alleged visionary Ivan, who would introduce you to Our Lady! The colourful brochure promotes the alleged signs and wonders of Medjugorje - spinning suns and Rosary beads that turn to gold. The brochure also includes statements which are alleged to be direct quotes from Pope John Paul 2, endorsing Medjugorje. In February of 1995, The Los Angeles Times reported on a civil case in the Los Angeles County Court. Peter K Miller, as the owner of The Queen of Peace Ministry, was cautioned in Court for placing religious pictures on stationery and other promotional materials, leaving the consumers with the impression that his tours were under the auspices of the Catholic Church. Miller was further accused of violating certain provisions of the Business and Professions Code relating to travel promotions and was ordered by the Court to display a statement on his materials that his Business was not an official representative of the Catholic Church. A Los Angeles Judge froze the assets of The Queen of Peace Ministry 2 years later, auditors finding that 1.4 million dollars had mysteriously vanished from the Company's accounts, the balance of just 16,000 dollars remaining. Peter K Miller received 200,000 dollars in payments from The Queen of Peace Ministry between January 1996 and January 1997. Miller has since fled the United States amid a federal investigation into his affairs and is now believed to be hiding in England. It is alleged that Miller owns property in Medjugorje which he still rents out to unsuspecting pilgrims and he's been defended in his actions by Tour Operators in Medjugorje. His actions, including conning his customers out of their money an even, on occasion, leaving them stranded in foreign countries. Taken from Visions on Demand, The Medjugorje Deception.

I used to believe in Medjugorje but I have many doubts now. The original messages seem quite unique and special but over the years they have become quite bland. You would think that if Our Lady is appearing there on a daily basis she would give more interesting and relevant messages. The other problem I have is the secrets. In the first 20 years of Medjugorje, Our Lady delivered 57 secrets to the Visionaries. Now, She only has to deliver the last secret to 3 of the visionaries but hasn't done so in the last 20 years. This gives me great doubts about the reality of Medjugorje.

My above comment is a paraphrase of the heresy from the apparition that "All religions are equal before God ". A quick internet search confirms the heretical statement, and I'm sure you can easily find other sources that you prefer rather than these I will provide below. I have provided titles and names because youtube deletes my comments with links. The heresy is reported in minute 1:45 on the KZbin Channel "Sensus Fidelium" in the video "Our Lady of Medjugorje Protects the Head of the Serpent" The article "The Facts of Medjugorje" on the website "The Catholic Counter-Reformation" reports the heresy as well. Of particular note is the section "VULGARITIES, DISTURBING QUIRKS" which describe many unwholesome behaviors in the apparition from it's shaking hands, spontaneous giggling, a black butterfly that accompanies it, it's desire to be touched and kissed, and it's lack of feet which are shown in approved apparitions of the Virgin Mary. "The words of the Apparition of Medjugorje teem with ambiguities, errors and marked heresies...The substance of the offence was the answer given by the Gospa to a written question handed to the seers on October 1, 1981: “Are all religions good?” - “ All religions are equal before God ”. If this reply attributed to all religions the same truth or the same value [which is indeed its obvious and incontestable meaning, confirmed by the context of ten or fifteen similar answers of the Apparition, and no answer has yet corrected or attenuated this patent heresy!] the Apparition would be disqualified in accordance with saint Paul’s criterion: “Even if an angel from Heaven were to announce another Gospel to you, let him be anathema” (Ga 1:8): it could not be an angel of God. ...What is more, it is claimed that She appears every evening, and since 1981 has had more than two thousand opportunities to make the necessary correction. No correction, however, has ever been made!"

At the time of the apparitions, the Bishop of Mostar, Bishop Zanic, formed a Commission to investigate them. A total of 15 members, including theologians and psychiatrists, concluded that there was no evidence, whatsoever, of Supernatural phenomena at Medjugorje. Bishop Zanic stated that the so called visions are the fruit of fabrication, fraud and disobedience to the Church. He accused the Franciscans of hurrying forward before the Church's judgement. In May 1985 The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith sent to the Italian Bishops Conference, a letter asking Bishops to make efforts to reduce organised pilgrimages from Italy to Medjugorje. However, despite all of this, a multitude of promoters of Medjugorje ignored the Authority of the Catholic Church, along with the thousands of pilgrims who converge on Medjugorje each year, although many pilgrims are not aware of this. How irrelevant our feelings are in such matters, let me tell you on my own example related to another Marian shrine (related to recognized apparitions!) - Fatima. I spent 3/4 of my life in the shadow of the so-called Silesian Fatima. We were there for the patron festival at least once a year, mostly for the biggest in May, not counting various other occasions, Therefore the topic of the apparitions in Fatima was known to me from the cradle and is very close to me ever since Therefore, on the occasion of my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, it was obvious that since I am so close, I absolutely must go to Fatima.

The hallmark of the approved Marian apparitions is their brevity. If you read the supposed “messages” of Medjugorje they’re all contradictory, conversational, even heretical. The “visionaries” claim to be able to get Our Lady to joke with them and appear on demand. The Virgin tells bizarre stories about a bloody handkerchief and her being dressed in black. They say they’ve touched her garment and it’s cold like metal. Several priests have pointed out that the depictions of the Medj Virgin hide her feet-the Virgin always shows her feet because they crush the head of the serpent. I don’t know about such things but I do know that if it was from Heaven, God Himself would’ve brought about its acceptance by the bishops and Vatican because in the other apparitions the Virgin is anxious for the messages to be spread far and wide. Not so at Medjugorje because that’s bad for a business which depends on an ongoing DAILY show. The books are unreadable garbage full of claims of approval by everyone from Padre Pio and Mother Teresa to Fr. Amorth. And without a shred of evidence.

While Ivan preaches to pilgrims about fasting on bread and water, and living humbly, he does not practice what he preaches. His choice of transport in Medjugorje is certainly less than humble. Mother Angelica is the foundress of EWTN, based in Birmingham, Alabama. It has been confirmed to us by creditable sources that Mother Angelica cancelled a planned programme featuring Ivan, on the grounds of inconsistent material. There are now many pilgrimages in a number of countries devoted to the followers of the Medjugorje cult. One such regular engagement is the one which takes place every Summer at The Friary in Kent, England. In the Summer of 1996 Ivan attended. Yet in 1997 Ivan was politely asked by a Bishop in England not to attend the gathering in Kent during the Summer this year. This is not the first time a prophesy from Ivan's lips have proven fruitless. Ivan stated to The Investigation Commission the Madonna had told him that a sign would appear during the 6 months after Her appearance in Medjugorje. 16 years on, the world still awaits this sign. On another occasion Ivan quoted The Blessed Mother as stating that he would become a Priest. Yet, since then, he has been expelled from 2 Seminaries, the last one being Dubrovnik, due to poor grades. In 1994 Ivan married the former Miss Massachusetts, Lorine Murphy, whom he married in Boston. One is forced to wonder how the two communicate, since Ivan is apparently unable to address English speaking crowds without first using a translator. And on the day of his wedding, Ivan apparently witnessed an apparition of Our Lady, who now purportedly follows him around the world. Taken from Visions on Demand The Medjugorje Deception.

To read and reflect on Holy scripture daily. To form and join prayer groups. Pray for the holy souls in purgatory, She always points us to her son Jesus. I am very fortunate and thankful to have been to Medjugorje many times. Each visit has helped strengthen my faith and commitment to Christ as well as challenge my daily struggles with sin and the evil that wants to destroy me & my family. God bless everyone here.
