The amount of stat experience you need to max out in a stat is 65535, and vitamins stop working when you get to 25600, so not even half. Maxing out just takes reaaaaally long in Gen I and II.

Exactly. Most 100 levels mons don't ever get maximum stat exp unless they were trained with Pokérus active OR just kept battling very low levels mons all the way to level 100 (stat exp is fixed for the pokemon species but general experience varies with level of the pokemon being fought). The only sure way of getting any mon to maximum stat exp in gen I & II is by pumping 10 of each vitamin before even starting training, now you have a mon that will reach maximum stat exp naturally when going for level 100. Otherwise, you're going to be doing the box trick A LOT.

At level 100, a Pokemon that used vitamins and had no battles would have an extra 40 points in each stat. If the Pokemon has max stat experience, it will have 63 in each stat. Vitamins give 2560 stat experience, and you can't use them if you have 25600 or more stat experience in that stat. You need to battle Pokemon to reach the true max, which is 65535. There are diminishing returns for getting higher stat experience because there's a square root in the formula. The formula takes the square root of your stat experience, then divides the result by 4.

On the topic of Drowzee, I might as well suggest folks to watch MDB's LP of Pokémon Stadium with his friends. They played the mini games too and the Drowzee hypnosis one is hilarious as it keeps speeding up until there is just one left standing. Also it was overall funny to see them trying to get through the game with rent Pokémon before switching to proper ones during the high tier cups as that game is ridiculously unfair and straight up cheats sometimes pffff.

Oh boy, that last fight. MDB, you don't often miss, but I will say you did here. I think you hit on the solution though - Dynamic Punch was probably the better option over Headbutt or Ice Punch. Super Effective super powerful fighting move with confusion and all that. Plus, between Psychic and Shadow Ball, Ice Punch isn't really needed unless it covers Charizard. Maybe Thunder Punch if you could learn that?

Happy Birthday! I have an idea for a run, but I’m not sure how possible it’d be. Any generation, and Pokémon to make it work, but you can only damage opponents using non-volatile damage, so poison, toxic, and burn damage. Moves like poison sting don’t count since it is a damaging move that inflicts the status, but poisonous gas, poison powder, will-o-wisp, etc. are all fair play. Thank you for all your hard work and keep on keepin on!

You know, I thought about Ice Beam (one of my favorite moves too!), and that inspired me on an idea of a challenge. Might be stupid, but here goes: Pokémon (any edition you wish), but the movepool should only consist of moves that contain the exact type in their name! The team is at your disposal - might as well just be a team of Smeargle. For example, Ice Beam has "Ice" in it, "Water Spout" has "Water" in it. Please note that derivatives such as "Flame" for "Fire", or "Thunder" for "Electric" would not count!

Challenge idea. Any gen, its a single pokemon run but you have to catch a new pokemon on the next route after each gym. Previous pokemon becomes an HM user (if possible) or gets boxed/released.

I have an idea for a fun challenge, One that means you could even use Drowzee. Can you beat Pokemon Black (Or any game from gen's 5 ,6 or 7) with only the move Assist? Purrloin learns Assist at level 6 so it'd be the starter, Then if you get a male Purrloin you can breed it with other's to get more Pokemon. I think this would be a great wacky challenge since the more Pokemon on your team the more random the move is. For any that don't know Assist uses a random move known by any of the user's party Pokémon, With some exceptions. So even Pokemon that can't use Assist would still be useful if they have good moves that Assist can use. Drowzee is in the Human-Like Egg Group so If you want one with Assist you'd need a Spinda since they're in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so can breed with Purrloin and Drowzee. You could also use a Chimchar as a starter if you give it Assist as an Egg Move, They're also in the Field and Human-Like Egg Groups so a male one can breed the move into any Pokemon with Assist.

Generation 2 Stat Experience caps at the that magic number 65,535, and Vitamins only allow you to reach 25,600 regardless of whether you've gained any prior, so a maximum of 10 vitamins for each stat, which unless you've just caught a Pokemon that hasn't battled, it'll be less.

Edit, just to be sure, so for future reference rare candies aren't 'yet' quite as good as you can see you're only basically 40% of the way there. Whether you're interested in grinding up that last 60% will of course depend but hopefully good to know as it's an option for consideration in the future.

I am not sure if this is a good idea for a challenge, but what about a Gym TM chalenge? For example in a Fire Red version you need to finish with a team that has the moves Rock Tomb, Water Pulse, Thunder Shock, Giga Drain, Toxic, Calm Mind, Fire Blast, and Earthquake. Only problem I see is that you are only limited to 1 TM per Gym until Unova, so if that is too unfair then maybe having unlimited TMs for this challenge would be allowed, as long as you legitimately get the TM first and only have 1 pokemon on a team with said TMs (no having 6 pokemons with Earthquake).

I don't think it mattered but Shadowball would have done more damage to the Xatu than Ice Punch. Your Drowzee had higher attack than special attack, shadowball has 5 more bp and Xatu has even defenses.
