@Wakanda888Ай бұрын
@isaklal518 Actually, the story of Medusa, Athena, and Posideon is a Greek story. In the Percy Jackson/Greek mythology, the story is true, and it's up to the listener on who to believe Medusa or Athena/Posideon. As you can clearly see, a lot of people believe the Gods more. Medusa was a victim who was turned into a villain by the gods based on a lie. Annabeth believes her mother more than Medusa because, like Medusa said their both the same. They both worshipped/worship Athena. Medusa only found out the truth about her idol until after the tragedy she faced with Posideon happened, and Athena turned her back on her. Annabeth is still blindly loyal and probably always will be because Athena is her mother.

they didn't have an invisible hat in the movie, whilst it might seem smart at first, it could also easily backfire on them if medusa dodged or blocked the sword swing. Just to be clear, Medusa being a victim is *NOT* the original version of the tale. In the original Greek version, she was one of many monsters that just always existed or came from Echidna, the mother of monsters. Echidna basically existed to create whatever “monster of the week” our designated ancient heroes would face. The “Medusa is a victim” narrative comes to us from the Roman writer Ovid, who had a lot of anti-authority views that he channeled into a series called “Metamorphosis” that told the stories of many people who were transformed against their will at the whims of gods in order to make a statement about corrupt higher power not caring for innocent normal people. His retelling of Medusa’s story is one of these. So, as I said, not the original still interesting and multilayered.

Fun fact about Medusa: Ovid never described her as a Priestess Ovid, Metamorphoses 4. 790 ff (trans. Melville) (Roman epic C1st B.C. to C1st A.D.) : "Her [Medousa's] beauty was far-famed, the jealous hope of many a suitor, and of all her charms her hair was loveliest; so I was told by one who claimed to have seen her. @rynfornow341110 ай бұрын
From Quora: There are two and a half versions of this myth: She and her two sisters were born gorgons, but Medusa chose her beauty over immortality The next two are basically the same, that she was a priestess of Athena and Poseidon raped her, transforming into a gorgon as a result, but there are wide differences between the reasoning Ovid, salty little man-baby he is, claimed that Medusa was a vain priestess who spurned Poseidon after teasing him with sex, then after being raped, Athena took the side of the man claiming that it’s Medusa’s fault for being so vain and enticing a god, so a hideous monster was her fate. Please, always remember, if Ovid wrote it, it’s probably full of crap The more likely version of the myth is that Medusa was a pious priestess who just so happened to be extremely beautiful, but hid within Athena’s clergy to protect herself from men. Poseidon, much like baby brother Zeus, never met a boundary he could respect. He rapes the priestess and before he can finish, Medusa begs Athena for salvation from men. She is turned into a gorgon, her gaze turning men to stone rather than be raped by man or god again So, either she’s born as a gorgon or it’s a consequence of being raped by Poseidon in Athena’s temple

Like the novel, Medusa's backstory is a modified version of Ovid's take on her myth. The writers deliberately kept it ambiguous if Medusa's relationship with Poseidon was completely consensual. In an interview with Variety, episode co-writer Jon Steinberg discussed these choices: "I like that the story perceives that relationship from Percy’s point of view. It’s not entirely clear: Did they love each other? It seems like they did, but what went wrong? Did anything go wrong? Is it possible that Medusa had an awful experience with Poseidon and Sally didn’t?"[3]

Rick Riordan, in his role as executive producer for the show, wanted to make Medusa more sympathetic and beautiful than her book counterpart. In the same interview, he said, "In Medusa’s point of view, the real curse wasn’t making her ugly. It was making her invisible. She has chosen, in this version, to own that. To be seen. To be elegant. She turns people into stone and uses that as art."[3]

Jupiter's [Zeus'] daughter turned away and covered with her shield her virgin's eyes. And then for fitting punishment transformed the Gorgo's lovely hair to loathsome snakes."

I felt as though the "heroes" didn't need to worry about Medusa's curse ability as long as she wore her hat. I believe it was a conscious choice on her part to reason w/ them. Now, remove it & all bets off. It prevented them from seeing her eyes until she wanted it to happen.

I never could help but feel bad for Medusa. My wife and I grew up together and we liked reading and watching the same things. One of which was different ethnic mythologies. 20 years ago when we were 9, and what's ironic and uncanny is we didn't want to read the Greek mythos like an ordinary book. So to make reading it even more fun was looking in that book's table of contents of different Greek mythology individuals, we wrote them on paper, tore the paper to make each individual of the mythos a solo pick, put them in a left over McDonald's bag, take a name out when it was our turn (hers or mine). It was the 9th entry and her turn to pick. Who does she pull out...Medusa. lbvs😂😂😂 But what we didn't know was there are more than a few ways and tellings in Greek mythology. The librarian at our school told us. The first one of Medusa stories we red was she was born a gorgan and she preferred not to be sought out and to be left alone with her sisters. Her had became a trophy piece that a king wanted Percy to retrieve. Hermes, Hades, and Athena contributed in helping him kill her. The 2nd telling...smh, heartbreaking. And it has 2 versions as well but the most spoken of the 2 was Medusa was gorgeous and Athena was jealous. Medusa swore a vow of chastity to Athena that she'd never have sex. Men used to stalk her and follow her to Athena's temple and just watch her. Unfortunately, one of which was the lustful serial r*pist and Olympic god of the sea, whom Athena loathed vehemently. He made advances on Medusa (by the way, that's not her name. I can't immediately recall what it was but she was named Medusa after Athena transformed her). Medusa rejected him respectfully and told him her devotion to Athena, whom he loathed as well. And how dare a woman tell Posiedon, no? Especially a mortal woman? She tried to fight him off and run, but he caught up to her and decided to kill 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Getting his rocks off by violating Medusa in the Athena's temple. And right when you think she'd steaming livid and go after her uncle for the gross defiling disrespect in her temple. She is happy, secretly so. And basically did her like the so called Christians often do to pregnant victims of r*pe...don't care and condemn them. Athena finally had a reason to hurt her, and mind you, this is shortly after the poor girl was r*ped. In pain and shock, she was still there. She hadn't moved. Medusa took no mercy on her. Transformed her into a gorgan, so now when man would look her in the face and eyes they'd nolonger see a fair maiden, they'd see a frightening monster. Turning into stone as they screamed in horror. Hurting her every time it happened. It got to the point where she just left and stayed on a island at a dangerous part of the sea, hoping no one would come looking for her. But over the many years before Percy was propositioned to find and behead her. Numerous men tried to find her. So much til the entry way of the cave and the path farther into it, Percy sees dozens of petrified stone statues. Even after all the years she made that innocent girl suffer as a lonely monster. She takes her hatred and evil a large leaping step forward to the absolute worst she could do to her. Taught Percy where she lived, how to get there, her powers, how to kill her, and provided the tools Percy would need. And he succeeded. Cutting her head of as she slept. The 2nd telling of this telling of what happened is what you're seeing in this scene. Even though Athena ignored her always, IN BOTH TELLINGS. Posiedon sees and hears Medusa. He still loathed Athena like she loathed him, but he didn't get with her to Athena. He and Medusa fell in love. Athena finds out. Curses Athena. Later helps Percy kill her. Gave him a special sword (the sword the book and the show says Posiedon gives Percy) and Hades helm of invisibility (the cap Athena 's daughter in the book and show has). They battle. He kills her. And in all tellings, her head becomes a temporary weapon for Percy. As her head was like any other decapitated head, but when held in front of someone the head would reanimate and her eyes would open. It's like Loki from norse mythology. He's often given a bad name but until you read the mythos, you won't most everything he did was out of retaliation and deep heartbreak and pain Odin caused him. Crazier than that, is Odin is supposed to be the wisest and not even he realized that the enemy against him at/on Ragnarok were comprised of the millions of people he did wrong and hurt. However, like Medusa, they are looked at as the evil monsters although they are victims. And those harrowed to be the good/the heroes are actually the real monsters.

I find it completely impossible to see any incarnation of Medusa (regardless of media form) as a villain after knowing how she became like that. gRaped by a god and punshied by the god she followed for getting gRaped...like wtf?

For those saying Ovid wrote this version so it’s not “canon”. Not really. Her SA version was around before him. But his version she was vain and seduced Poseidon. So it was her fault it happened. Also! This story was before Christianity, and no one is arguing about that interpretation of him being the savior. Even before that “Lucifer” was a misinterpretation by a man talking about Venus. And ppl since then made it canon.

She is no liar , that child no not what she speaks , the real story has always been tragic , I dont like what happen to Medusa in the books, it proves evil exist , the good came is her children Pegasus, Chrysor, her daughter which is unnamed which they never revealed in books, But i took notice people love incest in manga, greek legends books and tv shows so tired of that.

Medusa is a personification of first decan Scorpio, Dolphin. It is a female snake decan, and the premise comes from averted eyes, intolerance of totalitarian authority, and the inability to be impressed by much of anything. Marie Antoinette was this decan and her head was removed. Hillary Clinton is also this decan, and she has been characterized as Medusa. This decan can also have large calf muscles that run to the ankles,... The best attribute, is they are very commonly known as 'queens' when they become successful at anything. Mahalia Jackson , - the Queen of Soul...at the famous speech by MLK , it was Mahalia that yelled, "Tell them about the dream,Martin". video on Dolphin at my channel
