I’m sure that most will disagree with me, but this match really convinced me that Hurkacz can win a slam. He hit his forehand with more assertiveness than you usually see, he hung with Medvedev in the rallies and I loved how positive his body language was throughout. Sometimes he becomes too muted in matches, kind of like Raonic, but he was engaging with his box and the crowd in a really positive way. He just needs to believe that he belongs with the top guys, because his best tennis is as good as anyone’s not named Djokovic and Alcaraz.

I remember being surprised when he defeated Sinner at the Miami Masters final in 2021, Sinner was coming very strong into that final and I had no idea who Hurkacz was. After that performance I realized there was another rival to reckon with that Sinner would have to face on his quest to tennis domination. I still believe that Sinner development was slowed at least a year by that defeat at the hands of Hurkacz.

Look man, in the end, winning a slam comes down to being better than the best players in the world in your particular "era", maybe 20 years ago Hubi would be a real slam contender, but the truth is, with the baseline game that these guys have nowadays, i dont see him having much of a chance, really like him tho!!!

Yes I did enjoy Sir. Med is a funky cool Slam winner and helluva player. Big Hubi is making a great living and I would love to see him take a step further. There are a few guys in his way, but these guys are something else.

Gill first brings us to the action in the 5th set. Then "EARLIER" is shown on the screen, well sort of. Just like a movie.

It cracks me up how Gill says “click off the video if you are not here for spoilers” and then within 2 seconds before you can even reach the the pause button… announces who won the match. 🤣 Great analysis as always though. Keep up the good work.

I thought 3rd set was terrible from both sides, especially the beginning. Hubi had some 0-30 & and then 0-40 on Med's serve, and then getting broken from 30-0 on his serve. Just lots of chances for Hurkacz to get back on track but he was just atrociously bad from the baseline in that set. Didn't feel like Med was 100% in that 3rd set but Hurkacz wasn't able to take advantage of it

That forehand technique is letting Hurkacz down time and time again, especially on slower surfaces. He misses when he is rushed, he misses when he has to generate pace from a neutrall ball. I also dont understand why doesnt he serve and volley more against Daniil, who stands so far back. Novak was killing Medvedev with this tactic at the Us Open.

@adityadeshmukh99069 ай бұрын
Medvedev is barely surviving in this tournament. All his matches were tight. He definitely is slightly favorite to win against red hot Zverev. Honestly, Hurkacz was better player in all the departments but Meddy won the points that really mattered.
@zy96629 ай бұрын
He arguably had the strongest draw of all the QFinalists
@adityadeshmukh99069 ай бұрын
@@zy9662on paper yes. But, all the players that he was supposed to play got eliminated before playing him. Atmane, Ruusuvuori, FAA, Borges is pretty good draw for Meddy. Djokovic had to play two great inform players ( Mannarino, Etcheverry) even before the QF, Jannik had to defeat last year Semifinalist Khachanov, Zverev had to defeat Norrie whose base level is top 10 for sure.
@Jalleur143259 ай бұрын
Hoping Medvedev will crush Zverev in the semis.

I hoped, that this year WTA/ATP/ITF, would stop this nonsense of mixing sport with politics. Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth. Appointing "flag police" at the AO 2023 was not even childish... it was embarrassing and insane... Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen. Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag? USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq. Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them. Interestingly enough Israeli tennis players Mika Buchnik and Guy Sasson are allowed to play under the national flag in AO 2024 despite the policy of their government towards Palestinians in Gaza. *** All wars are equal, but some wars are more equal than others.
@annabielica90699 ай бұрын
yes, exactly, especially that USA is initiating all wars, not Russia. The players have nothing to do with this
@VesnaLukic-h8w9 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said.. Some countries are allowed to do everything, and their players were never banned from anything, nor their flags or hymns.

based on that 1/3 of the liked on this comment also liked a comment saying the USA initiated the war not Russia ima assume you have the same opinion and you just want to say a more defensible one and dog whistle. The point of things like this is that the people who would so strongly oppose something so little is because they in some way defend it or disagree with the main stance the behavior is showing. There will of course be people who disagree with the banning of the Russian flag for the reasons you have given and actually believe that but because this is so minor, the most significant reason why people actually will oppose it is because they kinda support the war. Russian players being banned is obviously too much. It massively affects the players etc. Banning the flag also further delegitimises the country on a global scale which is good if its a bad country. Flags are nationalist or at the very least patriotic symbols for a country. Especially when a country is a dictatorship the support of a war and the flag become interlinked as the state uses the flag as their symbol and to support themselves. I can understand why they wouldn't ban the flag of a democratic country but would a dictatorship. The atp should have condemned all bad and unjust wars when they knew they were unjust. Not condemning one war doesn't mean another unjust war shouldn't be condemned. This is also part of the reason why your comment that disagrees with the banning of Russian flags and comments like yours support the invasion of Ukraine to some degree. If you wana respond to my comment please read it and don't do it while angry, everyone does it sometimes but I just want an actual response. If you want clarification for something i said, ask, i can barely understand what i wrote.
