Fun fact about SInner - Rublev. An italian commentator who was close to Sinner's "circle" in 2020 reported that after Jannik retired from the first match against Rublev (it was Vienna, I think), he said in italian to his team: "He doesn't hit the ball that hard". Not really something you'd expect someone say about Rublev...

Dearest Gilberto, Awesome video, seriously some of your very best stuff. The way you moved through such a mountain of content with such efficiency and nuance is truly impressive. While I have not yet seen any of these matches because they have not yet transpired, I can tell you in advance with great confidence that you have improved my viewing experience. As far as specifics I want to comment mainly on the final section: Alcaraz v. Zverev… I think Charlie will win this match, but I am sorry (for multiple reasons) to say I think Zverev poses a significant threat. On a general level, these all center around one thing... which is: Zverev is limited primarily by his mind, and not his body / physical 'weapons’. He perennially underperforms because he lacks mental urgency / go-for-broke mentality. By nature he is timid, and often lame. We have all witnessed his regressive transition from giant to giant-killer, which he remains… and, like all giant-killers, the limitations exist not in potential, but in execution; there is a gaping chasm between capacity and reality (contrast this with someone like Cam Norrie.. which piled particular poignancy atop the painful possibilities of their prior match..). This chasm/dynamic lays the groundwork for why I think Zverev may represent a worrisome and dangerous prospect for Alcaraz, which I will outline below, according to the tactical keys you identified and discussed with aplomb: - Drop shot (should benefit Charlie) - like you said, Norrie was highly effective with this, but Zverev didn’t go into the match expecting this… and as described above, Zverev’s expectations/perceptions are the key factor for who he is on the court, and how he performs… with Alcaraz, Zverev will absolutely be expecting it… I think he will be ready for a sprint, and will also play closer to the baseline than he usually does, because he knows that nasty dropper is on deck - Second serve issues for Zverev: once again, Zverev’s issues with the second serve stem not from a lack of technical ability as a server, but from a lack of mental urgency… however, Zverev knows Alcaraz likes to stand in and rip hard… I expect Zverev to execute big second serves (eg, 105+) because he knows he must do so or otherwise will suffer embarrassment. Zverev knows how to serve and will likely do so, even on second. - Forehand battle: the FH has always been the thing that holds Zverev back (a la Hubi) but (unlike Hubi) Zverev has always known how to absolutely smash a crosscourt forehand; it is once again the chasm between brain and arm, ability and execution. But against Carlitos, he knows he must, so I think he just might. You accurately pointed out that Norrie, Klein, Koepfer could target Zverev's forehand, but Zverev knows that “these guys” are not Charlie, and Z will execute better because otherwise he will be punished & embarrassed (which he fears more than defeat). - Backhand battle: this ad court pattern will likely heavily favor Zverev, which disproportionately pays dividends on big points (eg, 15-30, 30-40, 40-30, ad out, ad in). - Coming forward: I don’t think Zverev will be doing this quite as much because (1) he knows Alcaraz will pass him when challenged, and (2) he has so many better options from the baseline/nethercourt. A couple miscellaneous post-thoughts: * You appropriately pointed out that in FO 2022 Zverev mentally benefited a lot from being an underdog, played great… consistent with the whole giant-killer theme above, I think this dynamic will be at play again (although, I do not think the corresponding detrimental effect on Alcaraz will be recapitulated, as he was still just a young buck who was newly experiencing being a favorite against a top-tier, highly accomplished player) * If it goes five, I think Zverev will be fine physically… he looked fine at the end of the Norrie match, and I’m sad to say he’s a physical beast. Finally, I do think Alcaraz is a drink/smoke guy and I affirmatively believe this does provide him with some major advantage against his opponent who truly sucks.
