Great video!. I am confused about the pronunciation of mee. I though the rule was that ee is always pronunced with a long e sound, like the a in the English word take, however you pronounce it as the e in the English word me. Am I correct or I am mishearing it? Is the pronunciation of ee different for this particular word or is it just a regional difference with respect to Dutch of the Netherlands?
@LearnDutchwithAlain Жыл бұрын
Hello Juan, in phonetic script, ee in Dutch is /e/ and take in English is /teɪk/, so there is a difference with the ɪ. There are some regional differences, but I believe this one would only change with a heavy accent. Hope it helps!

Hi alien you posted great video. Can you start video series for Dutch discussion at various location. How we should ask questions and answer to that.

I think I'm a bit lost in pronunciation, "mee" you pronounce like" mi" but I think here in Antwerpen they just say "me", or am I wrong? Thanks
@LearnDutchwithAlain3 жыл бұрын
Hm, I can't judge based on what you write, Spanish/Portuguese mi isn't English mi or me. But indeed, regional differences exist.

Je kan het als een invitatie gebruiken zoals 'Ga je mee' 'Kom maar mee' Is dat waar of niet waar? Merci, Sean
@LearnDutchwithAlain3 жыл бұрын
'Ga je mee?' is een invitatie, maar 'Kom maar mee!' is een imperatief.

moet ik uitspreken een word mee als "mi" of "mej"?
@LearnDutchwithAlain3 жыл бұрын
Assuming you're Russian or having another Slavic mother tongue, this is typically difficult because Russian doesn't make a difference between the i and the e. I would say mej.
@TheOkinawaBoy3 жыл бұрын
@@LearnDutchwithAlain That's the way I say: "mei". And, of course I can hear the difference between e and i- eq sinij(blue in Russian). Nobody says "senej", if this is what you meant. I'm not an linguist, and my ears are way too old. 😀
@LearnDutchwithAlain3 жыл бұрын
@@TheOkinawaBoy Haha :) And I don't speak Russian, but many of my Slavic students had issues with these i-e, some couldn't hear the difference... Practice usually helps, but some things only come with time :)

Олег привет, слушай, хочу спросить тебя, ты спрашивал у других людей то что объесняет Alain? У меня сейчас урок с учителем голандцем и он говорит, что все выражения что он объясняет не правильно по смыслу, т.е. в Нидерландах они имеют другое значение. Я в замешательстве! Конечно я склонен прислушаться к моему учителю, потому что он живет именно в Нидерландах. А Alain с Бельгии. Я сказал это моему учителю, он сказал, что да разница в смысле может быть.
@TheOkinawaBoy3 жыл бұрын
@@Igor_-_K К сожалению, у нас нет учителей нидерландского, язык непопулярен. Я работал много и с голландцами и с их соседями. В данном ролике всего лишь разница в произношении и она очень тонкая. Я бы не останавливался на этом и фокусировался на общем смысле и правилах. Если скажешь ми или мей никто этому внимания не предаст.
