For Method 1, do you always chain four or does it change depending on the stitch you are going to use?

Probably because the first two are really old techniques that the magic ring replaced and many long term crocheters already knew, and the third one is how many people learned how to do a magic ring in the first place 🤷🏻 crocheting into the first chain or making a chain ring were the normal methods of starting into the round before people came up with a magic ring. I imagine this is mostly useful for relatively new crocheters.

As a knitter, I have found crocheting to be extremely difficult, but I love the look. I am clumsy with the hook and find the magic ring method to be a nightmare. Thank you for these three tips. They look easy peasy!

I just recently began TRYING to learn the magic ring but have been so frustrated with it I was ready to just give up and keep starting my projects the old way with just a slip knot. Number 3 is going to change the way I start everything that has to be started in the round. Thanks for sharing these great methods.

I've only done the cross over method. I have seen the double magic ring recently. I feel like method one is the easiest looking....until I've learned the magic ring, I've always done the chain with a slip stitch method. Thanks for the alternatives!!

Thank you. I know how to make a magic ring but it is always good to have more than one solution to a problem. I'm familiar with 2nd and 3rd methods but the first one is new to me.

This is interesting and it's good to have options. I personally use the popular "X" wrap on top of my 2 fingers but it took me forever to remember how to do it. I'm definitely going to give your alternate methods a try. Thanks!❤

The first method is still a magic ring, as when you loosened the end, it was able to pull like a normal magic ring. Second medod is the most secure. Thanks for the video and ideas.

This is fantastic! .. i usually have strands of yarn coming at me from all directions ending me pulling it undone ... go and get a cuppa then tackle try no.10 .. no more of that now ... this probably sees me as a new crocheter, which i am but this is a god-send to us newies ... cant thank you enough .. 👏🙏👏😇

How fascinating. I prefer the first method but quite honestly I’ve never had any problems making a magic ring. It isn’t hard at all. I didn’t know people had a problem with it. Pity you didn’t show how to do that way as well for a comparison. You have a nice teaching style. 😊

I do the regular magic ring. I don't understand why people think it's so difficult. I've also never had one come loose. I don't know what the X or crossover is. I've never seen that method.

Wow! You are impressive. I’m going to start the Artichoke Bag (on Ravelry) . Many knitters found the pattern start up very fiddly. I think I may experiment with your double magic ring, then go to knitting.

Nice tips, I can do a magic ring just fine, but can see how each method has its advantages. I did not realize that the chain method was more secure but it makes sense. 😊

I always use the crochet in the first chain or crochet around the chain. They are the easiest way for me.

Wonderful! I am revisiting this tutorial and just wanted to say I used Method 3, double magic ring, for my last project after having the single double ring fail in a project when I washed it. Just one block that I was fortunately able to mend before giving as a baby gift. Glad I discovered the problem before giving it as a gift. Greetings from sunny Queensland this Anzac Day.🇦🇺

So glad this was helpful for your project. I find that even with the double ring they can still fail, so I tend to make sure my end is woven in so much to reinforce it. Happy ANZAC day for last week (I had to look it up!)

I've been crocheting for years and I'm still learning so much! I stick to a couple of different methods, but I'll definitely try the double magic ring. I find the magic ring fiddly and have never got to grips with it!

Im working on making multiple flowers in only a few colors then using strips/bands in a stockinette knit stitch to shape the outfit with the various color matching flowers filling put the piece. Definitely a fall navy blue dark not summer time
