MEEPO BOARD won't charge! Teardown and Diagnosis

I am figuring out what’s wrong w my meepo v4. When I plug it in the charger would stay green. I got the battery out and it is reading 33.3 volts. So this makes me assume it’s got a bad cell. Is this something I can replace by myself. I don’t really know batteries but I am a handy guy. Or should I just spring for the replacement for $160. The board is practically new it’s got 50 miles on it. It’s just sat in a closet for two years not charging

Honestly, unless you're comfortable, $160 is not worth a life/a house/a fire if something goes wrong when charging... Used cells and brand new cells don't really mix, if it was my personal board, I would build or buy a whole new pack 👍

Options are replace bms, trickle charge then test to charge again, replace bad cells, replace battery. I would never replace cells the internal resistance, capacity, self discharge etc wont match and damage the battery pack even more which could make it last for a little while but I would not do it and did not. That's something I would only do if I used active balancing / bluetooth bms.

well quickest way to blow ur self up wear as many rings as u can messing with 18650 batteries then wait till u rings shorts them out (DISTSTER WAITING TO HAPPEN) glad this guy int doing any repairs for me, took battery to bits knowing there are toxic chemicals, and then tells u not to plug it into mains then continues to do it before opening pack

I have the exact same battery on my bench and found with my active balancer that a few cells has drifted a lot. Is that a sign of a defect BMS or is that normal after 2 years of excessive use? And what type are the connectors of the balance lines? Need to replace one of them cause I accidentally shortet two pins from it and there are now not existing anymore😄

Seems normal, but depends how much they've drifted. JST connectors :)

Well there's your problem!!! Don't go scuba diving with your Meepo...As a computer tech for the last 30 years I've seen all kinds of weirdness, trust me.

Oh it was worse than that I guess the "vacuum" got a way from her. It's ok I had it up in an hour but it was a mess. She somehow backed into on of the racks with just a few older servers in desktop boxes and they fell on one of the switches and mangled all the cables. I "promoted" her to not having to go and clean the server room again. Even if there is a stinking carcass in there. I'll clean out the wastepaper basket.@@EbikeRepairs

I commute to and from work every day all summer on my Meepo board . I've got 2,500 miles on it and am on my third battery. Occasionally I get caught in passing rainstorms far from home & it's a 17 pound board . "Riding the storm out" is often the only viable option. I even flex sealed the under side of the board this time but moisture still gets in there. Freakin' batteries cost more than the board did originally but I love riding it. I wish someone would come up with a better design to protect the battery.

@@EbikeRepairs would love to see more esk8 ones, especially Ownboard who are known to have battery/BMS issues on several boards from 2018-2022
