Meet Fierce Awakenings Co-Author Susan K. Smith

Susan K. Smith is a documentary filmmaker and professor (Visual Anthropologist) living abroad in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for eighteen years.
Her ex-pat identity developed from a deep need to understand herself and American culture. Susan’s life abroad also required her to make a conscious effort to understand other cultures. In doing so, this awareness demands that she constantly re-examine her cultural beliefs.
Susan’s documentary-making has transitioned from telling other people's stories to teaching cinematic storytelling skills to others, motivating them to speak their truth.
