Meet Luke Edward Hall, Our Handbook Artist 2022/23

Luke Edward Hall is an interior designer, artist and columnist who has designed collections for Burberry and Liberty and has exhibited his work around the world. This year, Luke is behind the cover for our Members' Handbook, a design shaped by his love of storytelling and drawing inspiration from Roman Britain - in particular, from Hadrian's Wall.
We spoke to Luke to find out more about the project, his creative approach and how history influences his work.

Loved the final design and ow it grew so much, and I adored listening to inspiration and the process of research he went through to get there. I like the colourful style, it's quite charming and playful. I also love Luke's personal style, the pants, the socks, the jumper, I loved the colour clashes! He's also quite the adorably geeky, aloof, Luna Lovegood character, himself.

What a beautiful style this fellow has. I also love old, handmade, and dyed paper, which I use to creeate books to hold the thousands of images of art, style, and ephemera that I have collected. He inspires me to add more color to everything. Well done, Sir.

It may be very attempting for some to assume that they could draw like Luke does -or better? But it’s not as easy as you think it is to draw that slightly rushed inexact “just landed on the paper” kind of style. I draw too, but pictures for people -usually adults to colour in. Mandalas and patterns. Well done Luke. Looking forward to getting a copy of the handbook.
