Meet Lead Zoologist Meagan M. and our five female alpacas!
Meagan began working with animals as a volunteer at her local zoo at age 13 and has never looked back. For her, education and conservation go hand in hand and are at the heart of her work as a lead zoologist.
A little over a year ago, five female alpacas - four female and one baby - came to the Dallas Zoo, and stole Meagan's heart. When they first arrived, Meagan dedicated time to sit with them so they could all become more familiar with each other, and a special connection emerged.
Meagan's commitment to the animals she cares for is evident in everything she does. So much so, that when a winter storm struck Dallas, she weathered the night in the barn with the alpacas to make sure they stayed calm and got the care they needed.
Thank you, Meagan and all the zoologists here at the Dallas Zoo, for your impressive dedication every single day. Happy #NationalZookeeperAppreciationWeek!
