Pidgeons are so undervalued. They are affectionate , intelligent and compare to other birds their bite is harmless plus they can fi d their way home.

Pigeons and seagulls are fine. They’re an important part of the ecosystem that should be protected and respected, but I’ve never encountered one that I’d classify as amazing. Maybe I’m going to the wrong boardwalks and overpasses 🙃 I personally related deeply to her story. Never considered myself a bird person, actually thought they were weird, messy pets and never saw their appeal. Then I accidentally purchased a parrot. Had no clue what it was, I just saw a man in a foreign flea market with a small bird tied up in a bag, looking miserable. Bought it for $160 with the intention of setting it free and then my boyfriend told me, “You know you just bought a baby parrot, right? We have to go buy formula for it.” I spent the next few months learning everything there was to learn about parrots, while falling in love with mine. I now have three Amazon parrots, three conures, and two cockatiels and my life is more or less devoted to them. They’re all wonderful birds and they’ve taught me so much. Thanks to them, I no longer get annoyed when seagulls try to steal my French fries, I just screech predatory bird sounds until they buzz off.

Awww I love Pineapple and Pumpkin and hearing their stories. It’s funny because we have two green cheeks (one cinnamon, one normal) who have such similar mannerisms to yours! The cinnamon hate paper towels, draws blood when she bites, likes showers, etc. and the normal coloring is the one who is silly and independent, likes to watch my boyfriend do the dishes 😂😍

I grew up in Toronto, which is very similar to New York in many ways, and we have tons of gulls and pigeons. I like to feed gulls (we have Ring-billed Gulls) and you can really see the intelligence in their eyes. If you give ONE gull some food, a TON of gulls will magically appear for some! They have excellent vision and they are always watching what's going on around them. I LOVE birds! I have held some birds, but I have never owned one as a pet because I'm one of those people sensitive to loud noises....and I live in a tiny apartment. Maybe some day, it would be cool to have a Conure or a Quaker. They're adorable birds!

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I'm more than grossed out for you. I'm so happy that you recovered from this horrible experience. It's a precautionary tale for all of us. I had a cousin who was terrified of birds because she was attacked not once but twice by large black crows. So... words of warning ~ if you visit Massachusetts, beware of the big black crows. They truly are predators. 😢

A good friend of mine has 30 oder maybe even 40 pigeons at her house. Well actually they live in a huge house/cage in their garden and the garden is big enough so there is enough room for all of them. I always enjoy to watch them fly together around the house or through the streets🕊🕊. Pigeons are beautiful and lovely birds😍😍 She even trains them so that they know how to fly together and come back home together. They are left out twice a day so they can have a bit free time. The only negative encounter I had was when one of them once pooped right on my forehead, right between my eyes when I was waiting at the bus stop💩😅😂 But still, they are cute animals and I love them! :) ❤🕊

Hey, I have the same type of bird the same color breed. These bird breeds have respiratory and allergy problems. This is my second bird same breed color and has same respiratory problems. Its definitely genetic. As soon as I saw Pineapple, I was wondering if she had respiratory issues and I was sad to find out I was right. My first bird died or respiratory failure. My second one gets congested at times. I keep meds on hand. And she's allergic to peanuts.

Did she bite you when you first tried to pick her up at the pet store. I had one step off the perch and come to the front if the cage so I thought she liked me, but then the Petco lady took out the perch and I tried to reach low and let her smell me but I did make the mistake of trying to pick her up. She wanted out of the cage but she couldn't be released in the store obviously. Maybe I should go back and see what happens. Did you just take them home then worry about bounding?

PetCo (according to some people, including an employee at another big brand that said there was an entire documentary on it (which idk if that's true or not)) is known for neglecting their animals, the fact that both of them had negative affects (even if they aren't that big) is kinda sad :( I would love to adopt or rehome a conure when I get a new one, but the humane society is only open for appointments and I don't know if I have the time to book one and all that jazz, and the only nearby shelter that I know of doesn't have any conures that are ready to be rehomed right now, oof I'm looking at a breeder that's about an hour away, but I'm going to get my next one from Pet Smart (maybe) if that doesn't work out. The reason I'm not getting my next one from the place that I got my old bird from is they're really expensive (a green cheek is 510 dollars compared to 350 at Pet Smart) and apparently some of the employees were spreading rumors that I k*lled my own bird which is just... Dude. I'm really glad you're happy with Pineapple and Pumpkin, though! I'm going to try to get a bird with the turquoise mutation too, that color is really pretty X3
@FlyingFids4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is sad 😔 it doesn't hurt to try and make some time to see if there are any adoptable conures at the humane society! And I'm so sorry to hear about your bird, what happened to it? 😭
@pokechubirdie66544 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingFids I tried to check the humane society but I don't think they have any conures available right now either :( He ended up getting caught in a tangle in my hair (my hair was longer and it's thick, it gets tangles really easily), and he was strangled to death in less than a minute. By the time I knew what was going on... He was already gone. I've cut my hair and brush it a lot now, I'm just a little paranoid about it. I just hope life allows me to give another bird a good home.

Many years ago, there was a comedy on TV. And that comment that pigeons are rats with wings was supposed to be a joke! But instead of it, being funny, it has carried over all these years. Pigeons are no dirtier than any other bird. Pigeons are amazing birds! They have won wars, and we wouldn’t be where we are today if it was not for the Pigion! And I feel as though you do a disservice to them, by repeating that remark.

In future when you have a house & yard, please don't ever let your birds free fly without have a harness & long lead on them. It doesn't matter how well trained your birds are but if they're free flying and a predator bird like a hawk, eagle or yes even the dreaded seagulls spots them and swoops down. This will scare and panic your Conures who will scatter. Once one flies away over the roof line, they are gone. I have several friends that donate all their spare time in searching for the lost birds of strangers. It is utterly heartbreaking how many of these beloved family parrots are never found. Cash rewards are offered and friends, neighbors & social media is told to "keep their eyes to the skies", etc. Some of these lost parrots cost thousands of dollars & have been with their family for decades. I just wanted to have this message broadcasted to you & your readers. Sometimes a your pet bird can accidentally slip out an open window or out your door when you're coming through. The later happened to my bf with our Conure I bought for him. Luckily we got her back as one of my rescuer friends found her.
