In today's video we'll be unpacking my 4 new poison dart frogs, the "mint" terrible frog, or Phyllobates terribilis "Mint"! We'll set them up in a grow out enclosure, move them in and also offer them a fruit fly snack!
Hope you enjoy!
Special thanks to Troy Goldberg for sharing some footage: / troyz22

PLEASE RESPOND. I have a pet leachie who is about juvenile and he is TERRIFIED of me. We used to be fine I could pick him up and all but I must have scared him or something because now the second I reach my hand in if there isnt food he will run

I never take him out the cage anymore cause I dont want to make things worse but the best we can do now is tong feed. Even then after there isnt food out he runs away from me. I want to have a strong bond with my leachie like my other geckos so if you could help me out that would be great

@@smuvraccoon3078 hi there! Sorry to hear about your situation! You could try some of the tips from my handling/taming crested geckos video. Alternatively there are leachianus that unfortunately become more sassy and defensive as they mature. Leachies in general are not always super friendly and handleable so that could be the case here. Even my big boy Jabba has his days 😅. Best of luck!

I agree with your statement about people becoming shy when it comes to posts of questions due to harsh responses. As a veterinary technician at an exotics hospital I have a very hard time getting exotics owners to open up without feeling judged or “on the spot”. People need to spread information kindly. Part of why I love your channel so much. Basic husbandry is my number one go to when accessing a sick animal at work. Because 90% it is the cause to most ailments. Keep on educating! It’s needed!

I think enrichment is something that needs more eyes. Everyone buys toys for their dogs and plays with them and gives them variety in food and treats… but what about their other pets? Monitors love to play with new things! But yes, you’re so right about the social media groups! It’s really a shame to see how much abuse ignorant newbies get just for not knowing something. Would rather see them helped out and welcomed into the hobby than pushed away by hostility. I’ve left so many groups as a result, was such a shame having such drama all over my feed.

I 200% agree with your answer to the QOTD. That’s why I love channels like yours and Clint’s reptiles for being patient and offering judgment free information. My answer is as much as I love the fancy morphs and all that, there’s something to be said for neurological conditions that can occur from breeding these animals safely without harm to them. I said the same thing on Professor Herp’s channel.

I 100% agree with you Dayyan. We want the hobby to grow. We want to foster a feeling of belonging and welcoming to people who show an interest. NOT ripping them apart. And the same goes for those that are well known within the hobby. Breeders, KZbinrs, zoologists, leaders who have raised and kept animals for decades, or even those that are newer but have an obvious love of animals, should ALSO try to create a United front. Stop the in-fighting, name calling and “hit” videos back and forth. It’s actually a bit embarrassing, and the drama is NOT what pulled me into keeping reptiles and amphibians! It was the love of the animals themselves and my fascination with them. Not the backstabbing. Honestly, if I were just approaching the community at this time, I’m not sure I would’ve felt the same way about it. I do know this is hopefully just a blip in an otherwise good community. And I’m hoping that all the wars stop and calm takes over. But I know exactly what you’re talking about. That honestly made me leave a couple of groups. Just being attacked for something so innocuous as a simple question.

What an insightful QOTD. I'm brand new to this community so have very little interaction with much of it as yet, but have been encouraged to explore more and empowered with not only knoweldge but the confidence to go seek additional reliable information from other sources by people such as yourself. I think offering insight to how incredible these animals are is so important, and really helps inspire new people to start things off on a positive foot when beginning their husbandry journey. The honest, objective, and transparent sharing of information in what it takes to keep these animals is also so important and so appreciated in channels such as yours. I suppose what I'm taking a long time to say is: I feel like my questions in the social communities I currently interact with are welcome and answered with honest compassion and curiosity, rather than judgement.

Agreed! He makes such amazing enclosures, from scratch! I enjoy it when he shows his goofy side. Very knowledgeable guy indeed! I've been subscribed to his channel for about 5 months. He was my vote for Snake Discoveries enclosure build off. A whole bunch of ppl were requesting Tyler Nolan and Chandlers Wild Life. Which I do enjoy watching Chandler a great deal it's like, he has a big following and idk if building enclosures(bioactive or not)is really his thing, and he had his hands full as it is. Shouting out Troy's channel was a no brainer. I can't believe he doesn't have more subs. Of course I thought of our guy Reptiliatus 🤗 but he already had a ton of requests/votes to take part in the challenge. Anyway, one day....I AM 100% going to do a dart frog vivarium build and gets me some of deez cuties!!🤩 ooh, with a little gentle waterfall/stream🤔🤓

Love your new, beautiful frogs! Hadn't seen that species before. I agree about the culture of the community... tho, I've been pretty fortunate to have come across mostly helpful, patient people in the reptile husbandry community. I second the need for more education/brainstorming/variety when it comes to enrichment. We only have two crested geckos (new to this whole world), but providing enrichment in our bioactive tanks has been one of the parts that has been the most fun! Adding different types of surfaces and shapes and textures makes the viewing and interaction even more enjoyable!

I want frogs one day... dart frogs or fire belly toads. I dont know which. But they have to be a bit more on the quiet end. And large rainforest vivarium. Troy is a true source of information and inspiration. QOTD: I would like more people to share and dissolve old fears and misbeliefs. There is a lot of "controversial" subjects that just stem for old beliefs that turned out to be misunderstood or plain wrong. And the problem I see it is that the fears are allowed to propagate and is spread from person to person. I understand that those people wish the best for the animals but I'd love to see some of those false fears dispelled.

Awesome! I'm going to be putting yellow Terribilis into the tank I originally planned to hold a red eyes croc skink (let's not discuss the waterfall issues....). I read that Sphagnum and live moss were not a good top layer due to Terribilis having foot issues with excess moisture - do you think they are OK if there's some leaf litter to escape to? As for the QOTD, I'd love for pressure to be put on "big box" pet stores to take better care of the animals they have, give proper advice, and to stop selling imports or animals from "pet mills."

Hey Dayyan, I agree with your question of the day response, and I'd like to add on to it. The response "Google it" is not valid whatsoever. There is a lot of misinformation out there, especially in the exotic pet community. People trust us, as current keepers and enthusiasts, for the correct and current information. Giving them the correct information takes nothing but your time, and not very much of it, especially if you have time to flame someone. Just be kind and be encouraged that new and more people are coming into our hobbies. That's a good thing!

In my experience, people in the hobby (in the states anyway) will have a highly negative experience with someone and not tell others that. Leaving someone else to be swindled. There are a lot of scammers in the states with unhealthy pets for sale, or caging/pets they never intend to send off just to make people’s money. When something comes to light finally, everyone comes out to the woodwork saying they knew how terrible that person/persons was/were and failed to mention that to protect others.

I didn’t know that the young are so different from the adults. All hobbies have such types of arrogant people controlling the place, but in some subsections of the herp hobby, especially with animals considered too macho or difficult, the situation becomes unbearable. I think that things have somewhat changed to the better though, as more individualized social media groups and the more open KZbin environment do already supplant the tyrannical forums.
