What a lovely little horse he is. I always feel unbelievably privileged when an animal trusts me enough, and tries really hard to suppress his instinctive response to stress, just to please me and ‘be a good boy’. It’s just so touching.

I love how all of your interactions with Mav (and all your horses) are positive ones. You use gentle nudges and don't try to do too much at one time. Obviously it works, just look at all the horses you have backed, and are now successful show horses!!

She has done a great job with her horses! But I wouldn't assume too much about how someone achieves such results just from their social media. The algorithm discourages real life. I'm not trying to attack Holly, I'm just pointing out how the system works.

He's lovely and I'm glad he's in your hands. And you are 100% correct: everyone who backs a horse does it a bit differently. There is no one way. Can't wait to see you on him.

Oooo. I miss his Mom. She was a superstar jumper! Hopefully all that talent got passed on to Mav. You have certainly got your plate full at the moment. Enjoy the process.

What a sweety Love his dusky black and lighter grey around his muzzle and eyes. Given both his parents are greys he’ll likely end up grey too. I wish he would stay the colour he is now. I think some horses stay that dusky black if one of their colour genes is black and the other is dunn I think they are called grullo when they have this gene combo. Of course, colour doesn’t matter. Mav has what counts: lovely, relaxed manners. I love the way you handle all horses in your care. Thank you for sharing Mav with us :)

I remember the first time I broke in a baby on my own. He was fantastic from the start, very trusting and lovely temperament all around for nearly every step of the breaking process. But I never properly worked on dismounting, so one time I and my trainer were having him carry me lying across him and I started to come off. I told my trainer and we suspected he'd be all right, but nope he was so surprised to hear my feet hit the ground and used my trainer as a car wash brush and spun her around as he ran past 😂 poor guy stopped right after he saw us both laughing and helping my trainer up that he came right back to us. Needless to say, I worked on dismounts for a few days after 😂.

More of this please!!!! Im breaking in my first horse, my 3 year old, so this is interesting to watch! Mine is also just so cute, but the problem is, whenever he gets treats he gets over excited and usually will only stand with his head at my head or hand, so getting him to stand still, so that I can come up on the side off him is a nightmare! So these things are very interesting to watch! Especially because you do produce great horses, so learning from you is really amazing!

I really like how you break horses. I do the same with my horses. The only thing I do differently is that I break my horses at 4 years old. 3 years is just too young for me. And I start competing them at 5. Mav is going to be a lovely horse. I’m sure you’ll have a blast with him next year. 😊

I really like your training and breaking style, Iv just bought a 3 yo mare who seems similar nature so excited to follow your progress with him. What bit do you mouth with? And do you go straight in with the bridle to mouth?

I generally use a French link snaffle. And I teach some pressure and what it means with the rope halter first before putting any contact on the bit. During all of the clips, my rope is always attached to the halter, not the bit ☺️

I have the feeling he has not same high than khal, or maybe i'm wrong. Of course he will grow because he's only 3. But he's a real beauty. And so sweet. Of course you can see and feel when he's nervous and anxious, but for me it's dlficult to see on this distance. You do it with much patience and love, and that's the right way.

I hope as he turns grey his mane & tail stay black. I love greys like that. But ofc grey horses are my favorite even though ive never owned one. How's that for irony
