You have been clear on your business goal all along and putting Khal up for sale at the end of the season is perfect timing. I look forward to seeing him on a bigger stage his talent deserves it. It will be very hard on you to say good bye, you've raised him for 10 years. I think it will be a good marking point for your first entry into sales. You should be very proud.

So nice to see you back in Ireland Holly! If/when you do the breaking-in series with Wiggy, can you talk us through what you're looking for when breaking in, and why you choose to do certain things at certain times? It would be interesting to see your lessons on Khal, also. Hope that makes sense and I can't wait to see more progression with Dali as he's kinda my fave!

Fabulous update with all your plans! I think all of it sounds fun and makes perfect sense! Including selling best boy Khal :) I can't imagine how tough it's going to be, but how wonderful to have had an amazing time learning with him and then giving him and another rider the opportunity to really grow further! With all the babies in the pipeline, it will be so nice to be able to give each of them their time in the sun! I applaud you for finding a way to explain it :) and best of luck with getting the girls in foal!

Hi Holly, so nice to see you back. Wow you seem to have this season mapped out for you and all the horses. I so love that you let the babies grow up and mature properly. Not backing/breaking until 4 year olds always used to be the way to go, then suddenly everyone started them younger and younger and I still think that a 4 year old is much better equipped to handle the whole "breaking " part of their lives as against being done as a 3 year old or even 2 1/2 year old. So I commend your ethics in the letting a horse be a horse and grow properly before being started. I cant wait for the next video, have really missed your video's. Sending love to all the family. Holly thanks for updating on everyone. Selling one or 2 of your horses i can see is incredibly hard. We can see it in your body language and voice. But it will be so good for your future breeding and future sales prospects to have Khal out there competing with someone else to showcase his abilities and yours because you bred him and gave him such a great foundation to let him natural talent come through. As for wiggy I'd love to see weekly updates and then maybe once a month or 6 weeks a vlog just on what you have worker on, how it's gone, any changes to plan, what worked and if anything didn't work. We all know that in some situations what works with 1 horse will be different and sometimes you need to adjust such as give more time in 1 area or move on quicker because horse is managing itsowell. During these vlogs we all know it's not a how to video on backing a youngster but id love to see and hear why you choose certain methods for example why you do or do not use a specific item of tack such as a neck rein or why your first ride is around the stables instead of the arena. I'm looking at it from educating myself on seeing other ways to do things.

Your idea about fiona and a surrogate mother is very good. In the netherlands i saw already a few cases. But there in the clinics where they do the proces there are always mares availabel , owned by the clinic. So i could see that a westfaler mare is in foal from a friesian crown sport mare. And they stay now together in the field in friesland. This technology is really so special. 👌

Khal deserves someone who is soley focused on him. I think getting him to this point and selling him on is fair. It doesnt mean you dont love him. But if he can teach a kid or an amature he would be perfect for that. I think dali would be a tougher sell (In my mind) but Khal seems to be just an ideal candidate for passing along to someone who is learning and wants a safe boy.

I don't think an amateur would be taking on a horse that jumps competitively at 1.45m? I'd imagine he'll go to someone who can continue taking him up the levels at international shows as it'd be a waste of his potential to just teach a learner

@HollyLenahanSJ I got very lucky with the land and awesome af rescue horses. Feed is stupid expensive but I can manage. Vet goes to racking up credit card debt lol. But the shows are too much that it pushes things over the top, even for me in a two income household 🥲 you're right though, for most it's absolutely everything about horses that is too much. So unfair, because I know so many girls would give just about anything to ride.
