I agree that she'd probably be more stable if she appears again, since Amethyst's more confident in herself and her relationship with Garnet is even stronger than before. It makes sense she was the first fusion to pop up in the new Steven Tag since the two both tend to get carried away when excited and having fun

Sugilite is that way because fusions show the highest common trait and takes it,ruby is hot headed,so is amethyst,saphire IS ALSO hotheaded although she maintains her cool,sugilite is that way because all 3 are,one supressing and two showing,two is greater than one thus sugilite’s main trait is agression and fury,remember highest common trait doesnt main the biggest trait of each gem,just the one they have in common and is shown more

I think it's more complicated then that. You can't just boil people down to personalities traits and make an entire new persona entirely based off said personality traits. Specifically, Sugilite is what happens when you take someone who acts bold and reckless to cover up their self loathing, and combine them with someone who makes it their mission to be above their insecurities. Both Amythyst and Garnet are given freedom by their fusion, which is true in both Garnet fusions. She gives her teammates the ability to be above their own insecurities while they're fused, and in return Garnet gets the relief, of just not being Garnet. Garnet typically represses herself all the time while having to constantly be the best she can be for the sake of being a role model for her team, while fused she gets to lean into her own personality just as much as Amethyst and Pearl do. Which is specifically notable given that when Pearl and Amythyst come together, Opal barely has a personality they cancel each other out too well. I think people too often just reduce Garnet as being the hotheaded one and the calm one and ignore the fact Garnet is just as responsible for her fusions as the other. Despite that fact, the gem weapons really highlight the difference. Pearl and Amythyst both have precision based weapons, and when they form Opal she forms a bow which is the most precise weapon one could have. Despite that, when Garnet is thrown into the mix you just get weapons of mass destruction. One who leans into that fact, and the other who pretends a giant sledge hammer with a bendy handle is actually a precision weapon.

8:07 I imagine her room as a mix of a gym and coloseum like arena. Ps. Ik that's the room that opens when she uses her gems, but I don't think the burning room is actually garnet room, we know for a fact it continued to exist when ruby and sapphire continued were split up during the wedding when steven went to get bismuth, and it be odd for the room that holds all the couropted gems to have a chance of disappearing because it's of a fusion. I think there are simply some rooms that are perminant in the temple like the burning room, and garnet simply reprogrammed the temple to open to that room when she uses her gems. We likely never actually saw garnets room (tbh I really dislike the point that the rooms stop existing when the gem no longer exists, cuz as u see it opens up a lot of issues, and wish that the temple had the set number of rooms (31 room if I'm not wrong, if we account for every possible fusion with the 5 gems) and they just always exist.

Sugalite is my favorite fusion, I love monstrous, angry ladies! Garnet to me was overwhelmed by Amethyst in this fusion, it was mostly her leading the reigns.

I would say that the overconfidence is partially Amethyst feeling herself a bit too much, but the angry is all three of their faults. After Garnet stopped repressing herself for the sake of the team and became more of a character, we see that Garnet gets hotheaded as a result of Ruby AND Sapphire both being irritable. So, you take 3 angry, confident ladies and let them all sync with one another, what did you expect? The showing off to Steven isn't necessarily a particularly Amethyst thing either, all the gems want to impress Steven. Being a dick to Pearl is all Amethyst though....

incredible in-depth analysis. its informative, has a great flow, you have a great voice, and you pointed out things i never realized: like sugilite projecting with "maybe youre just too little", how much pearl is obviously a ISTJ, and how sappire's dimissiveness is a big contributing factor in sugilite's "stubborness". also its very well editted and, again, the rhythm is great. the sapphire cameo was really really cute. ive already been subscribed- but i cant wait to see more!

oooh I can't wait for Opal's video. Opal has always given me: Hippie mom, the motherly instincts of course coming from Pearl whereas the freespirit from Amethyst. Though Sugilite appears less, I would assume that the rarity we have with Opal is due simply to Pearl and Amethyst's strained/opposing self relationship, and moreso attributed to as an 'as needed' for whenever long range weaponry was required for a situation (i.e. her first appearance, her trying to shoot down a diamond ship). The Hippie mother trope too can contribute to this by revealing as a 'distant' but 'available' parent type in contrast to Pearl's more helicopter style over Steven.

Sugilite definitely embodies Amethyst's carelessness and Garnet's intensity. She is irresponsible and confident. They are both gems' primary traits corrupted into their worst form, a narcissist that doesn't care about anything but themself. Sugilite would likely be way more refined if they fused again because of their character development over the series. Perhaps more kind and encouraging. Less "I'm awesome" and more "we're awesome"

I liked this video, and I especially liked the analysis of her overconfidence. Being a fusion, it’s possible that her reason for that overconfidence is different for each of her components; they each have different reasons for saying it, but they agree to anyways. Amethyst is overcompensating, Ruby is being contrarian/brash, and Sapphire is expressing her real sense of self-importance. She is an aristocratic gem, so she naturally sees herself as “above it all.” People like to disregard sapphire as having a role at all in sugilite’s personality, but I think she’s what makes her so terrifyingly stable. Great video!!

Very good video! But i have one problem. I think you underestimated Garnet's role in the fusion. Garnet herself is a very calm gem but she does have her emotional side that she often hides deep within herself. I think Sugilite as a fusion is when Garnet can no longer be held on the leach and her more reckless and emotional, therefore the dangerous and toxic side can shine trough. And when it comes to individual components, it's obvious how Ruby influenced Sugilite, but we cannot undermine Sapphire's role too. As shown in the Keystone Motel, Sapphire also hides herself and her emotional vurnebility, so Sugilite is that one time where Sapphire's more wild side is showing. Sapphire has been shown to also be capable of emotional outbursts if provocated enough, and she's also shown to be not exactly communicative with others and most of all, she's controlling of others (at least at the time of Sugilite's debut) So while you perfectly captured how Amethyst influenced Sugilite's personality, i think that Rubys and Sapphires roles were just as important to make Sugilite behave how she did

Ok, I definitely see the points about Amethyst effecting Sugailite, But I think you got lost of some of your points about Amethyst and forgot it Sugailite is a Fusion of Amethyst, RUBY & SAPPHIRE. You didn’t really talk about how the other two thirds affected the fusion. And continuing down that rabbit hole Garnet’s subconscious is probably in the fusion as well for how much time Ruby and Sapphire spent together. But if I am not mistaken Ruby on her own can get annoyed with pearl. So to say that Sugailite’s aggression is only amethyst would be inaccurate. There might even be so resentment from Garnet being the most capable one on the team and having that pressure forced upon her. Not to mention how many time lines she has probably explored and seen everyone fail in some many ways, if must be frustrating. So Sugailite may have provided an outlet for Ruby, Sapphire and Garnet’s frustrations. Honestly I would be surprised to find out that is the reason why fusion with multiple gems seems to talk slower, have more basic speech is because every they do not only has to be run by their base gem psyches but any of the fusion they spent time as separately. Kind of why Obsidian only roars. With - Steven - Pearl - Amethyst - Garnet - Ruby - Sapphire - Opal - Sugalite - Alexandrite - Smokey Quartz No wonder Obsidian is strong but not the best for verbals if anything or do has to be felt/run by all listed . ((I didn’t add Rainbow Quartz or Sunstone because Steven hadn’t Fused with Garnet or Amethyst at the point of Obsidian.))

I feel like it needs to be said that many Black creators have pointed out that Sugalite falls into the ‘angry black woman’ stereotype. She becomes monstrous to an extent that we don’t see in any other gem fusions, even Alexandrite. And while I do like her design and always thought she was cool as a kid, people have pointed out that she is traditionally ugly and brutish. Given that she’s voiced by a popular Black rap artist and is comprised of two black-coded characters, it’s not outlandish to reason that her uncontrollable demeanor is, extratextually, a projection of a racist stereotype. Within the text, your analysis gives a lot of shape to her personality and demeanor, but certain elements really seem like they were constructed not just from a fusion of Garnet and Amethyst but also from a certain expectation around what this character should be like according to American social narratives from which racism is inseparable. The storyline of her debut episode also features the white-coded character, pearl, using precision and elegance to ‘tame’ the brutish and wild sugalite back into her component gems, a narrative that fits perfectly into colonialist rhetoric about Africans in the global psyche. I think it’s important to note that even progressive media is created in the context of socialized white supremacy, and while I think it’s a jump to say that it ‘makes the show racist’ or ‘shows Rebecca sugar’s true colors’, it is something to always be conscious of when consuming media.

@@sawyerliner4195 I understand where you’re coming from but I just think we’ve entered a point in society where it’s kind of ridiculous to say that we can’t have certain characters that act certainly because they are coded a certainly racially especially because amethyst isn’t necessarily black. I think a lot of people assume that because of how she holds herself, which I personally find to be racist. Nothing points to amethyst being coed, except for the fact that she uses slang and has full lips. She doesn’t even have Afro texture hair and she’s voiced by an Asian woman. Garnet is obviously black, but I don’t think that the representation of her or the representation of sugalite should be misconstrued into this like narrative of racism when I don’t think that was the intent. Black people can be whoever we wanna be and we should be allowed to do that without having to combat with stereotypes. I think it’s clear that the decisions that were made on her character were made for character reasons and not just to make a big angry black woman and so I don’t think you can say that this is really, big issue I think people make it bigger than when it’s not really a problem and plenty of black coded gems have been represented in different ways and therefore it’s not like every single black coated character is represented in this way it’s just one and that should be OK because some people are loud and aggressive. And I’m saying this as a Black woman myself.
