Pretty nice overview. I thought I'd provide explanation for some of the scientific names for anyone who's interested. Cricetus is the type genus meaning hamster Cricetulus is the diminutive form meaning small hamster Allo-cricetulus meaning the other small hamster and Notho-cricetulus meaning the southern small hamster C. longicaudatus means the long-tailed small hamster, which checks when you look at the photos Urocricetus probably refers to the Ural mountains, but could also have something to do with its tail Alticola (in U. alticola) means "living high" referring to the altitude Mesocricetus means the middle (sized) hamster Auratus means golden, which is why Syrians are also sometimes called the golden hamsters Cansumys means mouse of the Gansu region

Please remember that: -Cages should be 50x50x100 cm - have to have 2+ textures (sand, coco fibre etc) -wheels should be standing ones and Syrian 25+ cm and any other 17+ cm - bedding must be safe (dust free) and must have 25cm + - sprays and forage must be provided ( flax, oat, millet etc) - YOU SHOULD JEVER HAVE 2OR MORE HAMSTERS TOGETHER ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Thank you and I wish you luck with your parents and hamsyer 💓😁

I didn't realise that Roborovskis have a longer lifespan. My girl Ruby is almost 3 and i thought she was super old, which she is but apparently Robos have been known to easily live to 4 years of age. Being that I've only ever owned Dwarf hamsters previously to her, I assumed they had the same lifespan but apparently Robos (according to Google) has an average lifespan of 3-4 years. She's like an adorable elderly person hobbling around her tank. Too cute. 🥰

I wouldn't say they necessarily have a longer lifespan, when it comes to hams in captivity I stick with the average 1.5-2 years lifespan for all the species. Some may live longer or shorter but no species is guaranteed to live to that.

I dont think it’s that much different but roborovskis in my experience often do live longer though my winter white was fine when they died getting stuck in a pot and couldn’t find them my robo passed before 3 after surgery to remove tumour

Hello Victoria! I just wanna say that you’re vídeos make me so happy and are the reason I will never mistreat another hamster again. I’ve had 3 hamster in the past and they all lived in the same critter trail cage (at different times) and now I won’t ever do that again because I’m so much more educated. Another thing is that your voice is so calming. I have anxiety so sometimes KZbinrs that scream and yell really get on my nerves. But you’re so calm that I like that. Your videos help me to wind down (unless animals are being mistreated obviously) and I just love learning about hamsters like in this video here! I might get one for Christmas if I can convince my mom.

Victoria- I wanted to thank you for your help and for everything else . I got my first hamster around a year and a half ago after watching your videos and learning everything that I needed to learn for her. I got her and I named her Melanie, she was a winter white . she was was sweetest little baby. She was quick to tame and was so gentle. She helped me a lot through rough times and was just the best company I could ever ask for. She passed November 7 of old age and I just wanted to thank you for just helping me out and giving me and others the best advice to give our baby’s of best home they could ask for. I truly miss her and I hope she knows that I loved her so much and that I would do anything. Anything she hold her one last time. But thank you Victoria, thank you from me and from Melanie. How did you get very specific information? I’ve even tried to search on scientific papers but most of them don’t talk specifically about a species,I need to read like 5 complete articles just to get a bit of information that can be wrong due to the papers being sometimes old (1930-1980)

Hi Victoria what dwarf breed would you say is the calmest and most gentle in your experience. Because I’m looking to get a hamster again after a few years and I’ve heard that winter whites are the calmest dwarf but I know you’re very educated in this so if you have an opinion please share.

I don't think there is a species that can truly be considered either of those, while you may get a calm Syrian hamster or calm dwarf it doesn't really speak for the entire species! Hamsters in general I would not consider to be calm or necessarily gentle :)

I have been a subscriber for a long time. Maybe 3 years at least. My wife and I keep "dwarf" hamsters. We love them very much. This channel has... well, I can feel you're not into this. Your channel, your house, and your guidance are great. Honestly. The vocal frying, to me, is telling. You didn't use to do that. I am sure that keeping all of this up is very stressful. Personally, I started watching this channel because it was fun, spirited, and informative. I have to admit that recently it has been nicely informative. If I wanted perfection I would talk to a registered specialized vet for small animals or God. You could strive to be either! Lastly, thank you. You have inspired my wife and I to live the hamster life in our tiny Tokyo apartment. We do our best, one hammy at a time. Please take good care of yourself too. Lots of love and peace to you all.

Take them to the vet. We really couldn't tell you the cause for the hair loss just from your description. Could be all sorts of mites, old age, deficiencies, genetics...

You will need to see an exotic vet, hair loss can be cause by many things but you'll need to have it diagnosed. Some causes are transmittable to other hamsters.
