I work at a pet store and have 0 problem straight up telling people their plans for a pet are cruel. "It's just a" mentality is an automatic no-sale.

wtf, they deserve especially good care BECAUSE they live so sort lives. Y'all better pray you dont reincarnate as a fly or sum 💀

When i told my parents i wanted a hamster they said the exact same thing. Somehow i got them to buy me one tho, and it lived for 4 and a half years. Keep in mind i was like, 6 when i got it. The day it died was devastating.

My hamster literally lived to -7- 4 years. And I got him about 16? Ish years ago, in eastern europe. When proper care of rodent pets still wasn't as known. So saying it's pointless because they only live a year in below subpar conditions they live a short life is a testament to your care. A cat can die in subpar conditions in a year too.
@limeadel30312 минут бұрын
7? That’s impossible. The oldest on record is 4.5 years so not close either. Either that’s wrong or someone was swapping your hamster out for a replica each time 😭
@ariamoonfall45586 минут бұрын
@limeadel303 damn, my memory really bad then. I could swear I had him in middle school already. Tbf I don't remember most of my childhood. So he was probably 3-4? But he was the biggest hamster species if that makes a difference.
@ariamoonfall45586 минут бұрын
I have to add that my memory of my childhood is just spotty at best due to C-PTSD.

Under their care, it’s gonna die in a year, but some hamsters can grow and live up to 3 to 5 years❤ with proper enrichment

I got one of those corn cobs in a variety pack of sprays and put it inside a hanging tunnel that my robo had to climb stairs to get on top of a multi-chamber hide to access. I liked it there because the hole went straight against the glass and I could watch him in the tunnel. The cob was there for one day and then it disappeared. I have no idea where it went. He would've had to drag it out of the tunnel, down to the top of the hide, then down one of his many burrows or into the hide, which didn't have chambers large enough to hold it! I did find some kernels inside a hide on the opposite end of the enclosure. That cob was twice as big as he is!

Hamsters should live until at least 2 years when properly cared for. People only think hamsters are very short lived because they are treated as disposable. Hamsters are NOT good for first-time pet owners or children. They do not generally enjoy being handled and they have specialized and complex husbandry needs. I always say that an adult cat is the best animal for a first time pet owner. Easy to provide proper care, lower maintenance than a dog. Hamsters probably shouldn't be pets at all. But those that are already in the pet trade belong with dedicated hobbyists like you.

Unrelated, but “what an odd thing to say” is also what i feel when i see those videos/comments comparing deaths of other animals/pets and being like “this isnt some pet hamster”. Okay, thats great. But whyvare you comparing the death of your pet to a hamster pet and belittling hamsters?? They are just as lovable and can be just as loving as any other animal.

Hi I just wanted to say THANKYOU my female Syrian hamster called noodle recently passed away at the age of 1 and a half I’m not sure why exactly but i think it was a stroke. You taught me how to give her a good fulfilling life. When I first got her she lived in a small pet shop cage but in less than a year I found you and upgraded her cage to a bin cage. I’m so glad she lived out the rest of her life in a safe big enclosure ❤❤❤

I love people who think less of animals with shorter lifespans, who then proceed to get a dog that can live a decade and a half, proceed to move or whatever and then the dog ends up in a shelter. 90% of people who get long lived pets like cats and dogs shouldnt have them, they dont provide them with their needs and they end up abandoning or loosing them early due to their irresponsibility.

I just want to tell you the difference you have made in both mine and my hamsters' lives. I started watching your videos in 2021 and it changed my views completely on hamsters, just as you experienced with pumpkin. After being told by the pet store to keep my two dwarf hamsters together, I soon realised that after some research, I knew nothing about hamsters. I started watching your videos and it has made the biggest difference. I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful, amazingly talented and knowledgeable you are, as you already know. Thank you so much Victoria for taking that extra leap of courage to put yourself out there and share what you love and are passionate about, as you have awakened a new passion in me and thousands of others. From the bottom of my heart, I am sending you love and kindness always. ❤
