Your farm is literal goals. We have 3 acres here in Australia and slowly adding your permaculture principals in. Fixing boundary fences. I’ve process my excess roosters before and quail. Been through some rough stuff and learnt a lot. Back down to only 2 goats with plans to be more prepared before we get more (our land is overgrown and not suitable for cattle) once the neighbour controls his dogs we will be getting more chickens and I’m currently gathering supplies for chicken tractors. Vege patches being organised. Slowly getting somewhere and couldn’t be happier. Goats on deep bedding (will be amazing for the veggies!) your an inspiration

Justin, I have a proposal for you. Since you once spent 24hrs with the chickens, I think it’s only fair you spend 24hrs with all the other animals you have. Once a month spend 24 hrs with a group of animals. Maybe do a fundraiser for a local charity each month for each group of animals you spend 24hrs with. Like 24hrs with the cows, 24hrs with the sheep and 24hrs with the pigs. But only one group of animals a month. That would bring so much knowledge about the animal and how to raise it. Simple but very effective! Much love from Canada 🇨🇦

I love rib eye stake! Your kids are amazing and Mr Brown is turning out to be quite a worker too! So cute! Good for them! Starting young that's how they learn and can run a farm on their own before others learn what that word means or know where their food is coming from! Self sufficient kids, well done momma and papa!!! 🤗💗🤗 If parents would teach their kids to work, do stuff around the house, get busy they would stay out of trouble and not be so depressed. I couldn't wait to go outside and play with the kids! Helped mom around even when we lived in an apartment, she always gave me something to do! 🤗💗🤗

Justin, been watching your videos since Jonah was a tender sprout and I've watched all the family grow up these years. ...I wanna tell you that I LOVED how calm this video was...edited beautifully without overdoing it, & it did the job of introducing not only the animals but the chidlers whom we all adore. I like the shots of each child doing their chores & snaps of commentary. Everything was self-explanatory & there was no need for alot of fillers. (The chaos of the blog format this past year was just is too much uninteresting stuff with a lot of sales talk that I skipped so I haven't visited the channel as much ;( ) but I wanted to tell you I love this quality right here. You have done wonderfully raising your family, your farm, your knowledge of animal husbandry & gardening, your film production & marketing business. I just thought I'd pop in and see what was happening and I noticed the change in content. Well done bro!

You’ve done it here and there in various videos but I’d like to see it put into one video.

Well just think about how much 4 tomato's cost you at the store. N then think of how many grow on a plant. If you grew them from seed the pack of seeds cost around $3 for about 20-50 seeds in a pack. The ones bought at the store probably have pesticides on them n they do not have taste. The ones you grow at home...you know what it took to grow them n the flavor is outstanding. I hope this helps you.
@StoneKathryn2 жыл бұрын
@@christycoalson36 Sometimes one tomato plant, especially if it's a indeterminate variety that just keeps growing can give you pounds of tomatoes and not all at the same time so many, many, meals with tomatoes at least the size of your fist. I think tomatoes per pound are near $2. Raising meat averaged over the whole animal can be cost effective but individual parts may be more than you'd pay in the store. The cost of buying, feeding, butchering, and cutting up, smoking, and freezing your meat are all added costs plus transporting them to the butcher, and they all add up. We do it because the taste is out of this world better. Good luck.

We had an orange cat named Marmaduke in the early 80's. He would kill and eat about fifteen squirrels a season. He lived to be 19. The reason my mom knew how many squirrels he was eating because she would count the heads and tails. Mostly tails but the odd head too. We watched him once reach down into the squirrel's throat to get at the goodies.

I put it in their water from the moment they arrive on my property and continue it until they're all feathered out and it's no longer a problem. Haven't had a single chick get pasty butt ever since I started using the vinegar so long ago. Now I'm the old chicken lady and happily pass the info along every chance I get. Try it, it works :-)

Yes, cats can eat squirrels! We had a cat who lived to be nineteen and ate 15 squirrels a season. During squirrel season he didn't need to eat catfood. The reason we knew how many squirrels he ate was because he would leave the tails and occaisionally the heads. My mother told us about this. One time my sister went outside to eat our lunch and Marmaduke an orange cat had decided to join us. He had the head off the squirrel and he was reaching down the neck to get the morsals out. I wouldn't be surprised if the raccoons taught him how to fend for himself.

So Marlin is the name of the new cat. Now I know it. My cat kills squirrels too, lots of mice and a few wild birds here and there. The hundred meat chicken chicks, C-monsters, are over half of the animals on the farm. I've heard that smashed up boiled egg yolks can cure pasty butt too. Good thing grass helps. So Autumn is the heifer's name in the pen with the banded sheep? So cupcake and pancake are the names for the two sows. Beefcake is the bore pig. I had forgotten that Polly was Phyllis's calf so she got bred back to her father Studmuffin for Surprise. So Maple is the name of the heifer calf you got for Aunt Flossy when her bull calf was stillborn? So is Autumn Aunt Flossy's newer calf? It's hard for me to keep all the cows straight. I know you ate hamburger but I can't even remember which cow had him. I think it was Aunt Phyllis but I can't remember for sure. I should write all this down one day. When you're just watching it you don't pay as much attention as you do if it was your life. Thanks for this Justin. I love the 10 pigs in the woods.

@edgarfriendly50812 жыл бұрын
Generally they are tougher to keep than the other animals Justin keeps. The saying I've always heard is if your fence doesn't hold water, it won't hold goats. That being said, electric netting, like petmanet has been a game changer for us. We love goats for. Brush clearing and milk.
@nancejay2 жыл бұрын
Just my two cents... I chose goats because I have small property (about 3.5 acres) and the borders of the property are successional forest. I'm using my goats (and starting this year, also feeder pigs) to reclaim it. My goats are for dairy and meat, and my small herd is enough for our household of four. My available land is perfect for goats, and I enjoy the animals as well as their meat and milk. That being said, if I had the pastures that Justin has and the size family he has to feed, I would choose cows either instead of or in addition to goats.
