The Alsace battleship class was but the latest in a series of post World War I designs meant to challenge any attempt by Italy or Germany to threaten French interests at sea. The Dunkerque Class began the series and was inspired largely by the danger (largely exaggerated) inherent in the pocket battleships - the German armored cruisers like the Deutschland class. They were fast warships mounting thirteen inch guns in unusual quadruple turrets to minimize weight while still maintaining as many guns as possible in the design. They were built in accordance with the arms limitation agreements in effect at the time, but as their primary opponents were sub twenty thousand ton mixes between heavy cruisers and battle cruisers, their thirty-five thousand ton displacements made them far superior in most respects. Although German naval rearmament continued throughout the ’30s the speed and quality of the equipment under construction did not concern French designers as much as that put forth by the Italian Regia Marina. The Vittorio Veneto class battleships built by Italy were armed with fifteen inch guns and built for speed. The French responded with the Richelieu class battleships, which were based off the Dunkerque design but armed with fifteen inch guns in quad turrets rather than the thirteen inch guns of their predecessors. The Alsace class was never to be built - the collapse of the French Republic in 1940 meant that only two of four planned Richelieu battleships would ever see the light of day, so construction of the Alsace and her sisters were never even truly begun. But the French battleship Alsace was brought to the design phase, and certain aspects of the vessel’s likely configuration are known.

Video Idea: Bismarck B with Free Hipper Commander and use Haruna and Lyons as Inspirations, you lose part of Secondary Build like Porcupine but could always go back to Hyde if you don't like it. Was thinking Lyons to get fires and has an Accuracy Build. No idea if it's any good, it might not be but maybe worth a try?

When this thing came out on the PC it was one of the most powerful tech tree ships available and was very popular. Wargaming wanted to sell the Premium Richelieu so they nerfed it into the ground to incentivize people to buy the premium ship. Typical SCUMMY behavior from Wargaming.

That 32mm armor is only ineffective against cruiser 203 HE and above...or magic HE from ships like wooster

The reason why many players catch on fire so quickly all the time. You have to Add the Risk of Catching Fire +13% skill from Robert Jaujard Flammable Cannonier Skill to any of the fire-starting chances percentage of any ship that is shooting at you, and that will be the total percentage of you catching on fire from that specific ship that is shooting at you. Example: if an enemy Alsace is shooting your Alsace +36% fire-starting chance from the ship than add the +13% Risk of Catching Fire from your commander skill = a +49% chance of your ship Catching on Fire from the Alsace that is shooting you. Remember that some of the commander skills will increase certain skills but at the same time it will cause an increase of harm to you. You may have increased your ship's battery range and shell grouping yes, but you also just added another +13% more Risk of Catching Fire on top of the fire-starting chances of the enemy ship that is shooting at you. Hope that helps you all if you were already unaware.

@@SpartanElite43 That is very true, but there are other commanders that also reduce those chances. All depends on what needs sacrificing or not sacrificing. I mention this because alot of players are unaware how some of the commander skills increase or decrease a ship's ability against another ship. I don't recall a CC or a KZbinr explain this in detail yet. I could be a wrong, but just a thought.

It's alsace says in Al and then sauce French friends vocab in conjugations are inordinately complicated I mean inflection is the reward of mastering the French language but I will contend that simplification of grammar English got that right LOL good video Spartan I'll be honest I kind of not pursued French battleships past tier 5 not a big fan of the two turrets forward and none aft when I got the Dunkirk out of a crate I just used it almost exclusively in The Fringe Arena and not much else this seems like a worthy successor in the French line get a damn gun turret at the AFT and please Mon Ami

OK serious question back when the game started and it has always stuck with me everyone always ran the propulsion mod for bb's now its steering gears. Is it just preference based on how you play?

Personally I prefer steering as I tend to be aggressive and need to dodge torps or angle doing the dreadnought shuffle. All down to preference
