Mexican artist Héctor Zamora took New York by storm last August when he installed his elegant site-specific sculpture on The Met's roof garden. On view until December 7, Lattice Detour (2020) is a delicate curved wall of perforated bricks. It casts a complex network of shadows which play with and respond to the breathtaking cityscape laying beyond. The brick is a foundational element in the practice of Zamora, who calls it a ‘unit of culture.’ In the latest episode of ‘Meet the Artists’, he explains his fascination for this humble material and why art is like planting a seed.
Héctor Zamora is represented by Labor in Mexico City, and Luciana Brito Galeria in São Paulo.
