Although they named it "Vande Matro", this train is not actually a matro train 😊 Matros run within a particular area and framework, Matro operations are always limited within a matropolitan area. But this train is universal. It uses the same over head AC lines,same IR tracks, and most probably will use the same route and stations with other trains. So this is I think more of a AC local train than a matro.

This is sort of an air conditioned version of a MEMU train. This will have 2 versions - one version that will serve in 100 Km radius and another will run as a regional train with a 250 km radius. Their max speed is most probably going to be 100 to 130 km/h. Yes you are correct about metro. Metro is an intra city mass rapid transit system or MRTS. Meant to carry a huge passenger count via frequent running of trains by use of CBTC signalling. Their speed is often restricted to 80 to 90 km/h....average speed in newer metros is less than 40 km/h.

Yes they are taking a one size fits all approach in case of train livery. That messes up the identity of many trains like Rajdhani Express and with the present generation of VBs and Amrit Bharat expresses.

Namo bharat minimum ticket is 50 rs. You think those who don't bother paying 5-10 rs for a second class unreserved ticket will pay 50 rs for an AC train like Namo Bharat? Those general ticket holders travelling in express trains can be addressed by adding more of Vande metro style trains, if the frequency is maintained properly. Then the issue wont put correct ticket holders in problem of over crowding

Agreed, the design changes are mostly custom made for each requirement type . So lets see whether design changes for the better in future.

I think should should have 4 sets of door on both sides in each coach so that people can easily enter and exit and having only 2 sets of door on each side will be a major flaw if it's supposed to be used in Mumbai railway as it would make it difficult for people to quickly enter and exit the Vande metro.

Lets see....this is only a prototype train afterall. This train will also double up as fast passenger type trains will upto 250 km trip distance so the design is primarily based on fast passenger use case......and yeah lets see how many passengers extra can each Vande metro coach hold compared to a standard non air conditioned local train coach.

It is not for very long distance where proper leg and thigh support is needed. This is a local train replacement and this time we are lucky that we are getting padded seats. You dont get it in a normal EMU or MEMU or even DEMU. Local trains have bad seats, just barely enough to support your bum. This type of train will run within max 250 km radius.

I think this train will definitely run on IR tracks.. Although its name is Vande Metro but it looks like local train.. We can see huge footstep to broad the train just like other indian trains have. Edit : Front of this train not looks good..also they can use different colors on trains with different combinations..

Yes metros mostly are standard gauge models, this is meant to run on BG tracks. So this is a huge and much needed stepup from standard MEMU and AC local.

Thisq train looks less wider than the ICF and RCF three phaser MEMUs! And from the livery it almost looks like a xerox copy of Saffron VB 😂😂 IR is so stiff when it comes to change.

Yes the sleekness comes from the parent design of the VB. The EMU and MEMU trains that currently operate on IR routes are designed for high passenger capacity, with 12 car trains having a capacity of 3,504 (1,168 seated and 2,336 standing) passengers. The 12 car VM will have only 3360 passenger capacity (100 seated + 180 standing passengers per coach in all 12 coaches (since traction equipment is underslung) . And yes IR is very stiff when it comes to adoption of custom designs for specific purposes.....

This thing is only done with high speed trains like ICE 3/4, Eurostar e320 or TGV or AGV style trainsets. These travel at 250+ speed and thus, they are more affected by air drag due to lack of cover for the undercarriage components like battery box, brake components , wheel and axle sets, etc. This is where India has done cost cutting as our trains travel much below 200 kmph speeds with Khajuraho Vande Bharat, Rani Kamlapati Vande Bharat and Gatimaan express being the only operational trains that touch 160 km/h speeds. Even VB undercarriage is also not covered..... that time nobody talked about this deficiency... everything is coming into consideration for a train that will not travel at 160 kmph speeds at all and will stick to intercity and suburban use cases only. The first unit is ready to be delivered by ICF. Since express trains in UK based on the Hitachi AT300 family are used at 200 kmph thats why they cannot afford to not have undercarriage cover..... because their components are expensive enough to be treated like we do: operability in dusty and humid conditions. Plus they need to make sure the on board components do not freeze in winter.

@@sriparnoghosh2424 i think they will use the same 280 HP asynchronous traction motor and two motors per traction converter. There will be eight motors per basic unit, so 12 car unit will be around 6720 HP ( total 24 traction motors distributed between 6 motor coaches) ..... however further details are yet to be out.

Nahi. Ac gadi hai. Kimat thora zyada expect karo. Jaise agar ek 180 km ka normal second sitting me kiraya 90 rs ho toh iska kimat atleast 200 se 250 rs ho sakta hai. Ac chair car ka fare jaisa nahi hoga kiraya thats for sure.

This is not a metro train. Previously during British Raj, only third class train coaches had this style of seating, now only metro trains have side seats. Do you think these metro seats are good for 150 to 250 km travel if someone has to travel end to end in standing condition? This is not a metro train, it is meant to run on the mainline, metro trains except a few, are mostly standard gauge (4 ft 8.5 in). This VM will run on mainline broad gauge tracks (5 ft 6 in), hence VM is wider than a metro coach. This is a replacement of the standard local train that runs in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Kolkata. These, as you are seeing, are air-conditioned and also they are more powerful and can utilize sectional speed capacity of 130 kmph which normal local and MEMU trains cannot (those do a max 110 km/h, wherever allowed, else 100 km/h).

@@parshuram11023 yes but it is not 100 percent vestibule connected plus it does not have toilets. This one has. Usual AC locals dont have padded seating in second class. May be this one has all second class coaches and all have padded seating....The ICF version complete set of 12 coaches is ready but RCF version is getting ready as of now. Lets see if Mumbai's crowd is able to find this train set style advanced MEMU that can cruise faster.

These are an advanced form of EMU with AC factory fitted. You all from Mumbai (Western Railways) are lucky as the first set of 12 cars , built at ICF Chennai, will be handed over to you. These will run with 110 to 130 kmph speed, max 130 though , something that the old design air conditioned local cannot do, plus this version will also have toilets and better seat comfort. Lets see if the design works fine with WR. The entire EMU will be vestibule connected (end to end) which the current ac local isn't!

Vande sleeper ka dekhna hai design file copy paste hai ya nahi. Vande Metro ka samne ka hissa kuch ajib dikh raha hai.....aur train ka colour scheme me se distinction nahi raha....dur se dekhke ya horn sunke pata nahi chalega kaunsa EMU/MEMU hai, kaunsa VB hai (unless purane horn ka istemaal hua hai) ya kaunsa VM hai....ajkal to VB me v standard WAP 4 wala horn aa raha , uske alag pehchan hi uska horn tha....use kar diye salo ne khatam....

These will serve two purposes, first being suburban service and second being fast passenger service within cities....this is why the two doors on each side of each coach, at one-third and two-third length position of the coach. If you put 4 doors on each side, then passenger seat count is badly affected which is not good for fast passenger type service, which will be limited to 250 km.

It is not a metro train. Metro train is of medium capacity specifically for urban daily commute because those are narrower than this train as vande metro is broad gauge and metro railway is standard gauge. Do you think you can stand on a trip for 200+ km if the seats were installed like in a metro coach? This train is meant for running on mainline.

All vande trains interior is good but outside look very bad. Color combination is not standard at all. If you want to show this train as a branded train then you should work on the exterior look also. Give it a world class look. This generation will accept any futuristic designs and love to travel in that trains.

You are right that for international looks, we need to work on the interior. The reason why Talgo was rejected and Sudhanshu Mani sir took 200 Crores from Govt to save the Govt another 200 Crores was to first learn how a trainset is made and then make one for India with sufficient cost cutting measures. And giving the train an average look on the sides is just part of these cost cutting measures. Foreign trainsets do not need an extra person to couple (they can couple automatically thanks to Dellner automatic couplers) and the coupler cover which is integrated with the nose cone opens electrically by a switch. Those trains also have better braking systems and are built of Aluminium shells, something India is yet to master. Thats why all these trains would be built of stainless steel shells. These are just some examples of where costs have been cut. Plus those trains go upto 200 kmph such as the LNER Azumas of the East Coast Main Line of the UK (which are actually Hitachi AT300 Bi mode trains with 5 and 9 coach variants) and also upto 330 - 350 kmph if it is a high speed trainset such as the Siemens Velaro, that work as ICE 3 train in Germany...or the Shinkanshen sets themselves. Looking into all those factors, i think this bezelless design of the coach exterior is sort of okay....as long as it is doing what it is supposed to do. Also catering on board the international trains are of another level, while in India, there is no cafe on board , instead e catering and on board catering from the same old IRCTC is present. Plus if these advanced things were to be present then ticket prices in CC would go as much as 2500 to 3000 rupees and in EC the prices would surely be more than 4000 rupees. Meaning those trains would not find much travellers as people would stick to the sleeper trains with 2 and 3 tier accommodation, because VB is primarily a chair based train and sleeper version is being furnished in BEML factory in Bengaluru, is not yet ready. I am excited about VB Sleeper, which no country has got....a sleeper trainset....most of those trains in UK , EUR and Japan are sitting based.

Vande metro is only a code name. Like tata punch was called HBX as a concept in auto expo. Now dont let the concept name confuse you. This train will see suburban and fast passenger style usage and minimum 12 coaches will be there in one set. If this set has technical issue, then entire train may need to be taken out for service if the problem is a major one. Unlike metro which comes under mass rapid transit, this train is not for rapid transit, so final nomenclature is to be decided later. Can you do 250 km trip in few minutes? No right? Thats something you get by HSR or bullet trains speeding at 250+ speeds. Purane local trains ab capacity ke mamle me piche reh gya hai, vande metro usko hi badal dalega.....local me toilets nahi hote, isme hain, local ka darwaje se latakta hua passenger gir sakta hai, isme nahi girega qki automatic darwaje hain....local me end to end vestibule connected nahi hote, memu me 12 dibbe train me ek cut aa jata hai, purane rolling stock noise karta hai , isliye naye is vande metro introduction jaruri hai. Bahut jagah me passenger aur local train ka kami hai, waha capacity badega.....
