In this episode we hear from the Director of the San Francisco Film Commission about how feature and episodic length productions can get substantial rebates back from City services used if a certain majority of the production is shot in San Francisco. We also learn a little bit about a regional film commission in Illinois and I discuss Value Added Resellers (VARs)... yup!

Believe it or not here in Utah we have a great incentive program! Crews from all over come here to shoot the Wasatch front. We have big city vibes in SLC, green forests and mountains less than 30 minutes away from SLC, and the red rocks in southern Utah like Moab. We offer 28% tax incentive and have all the resources here like large rental houses and a good amount of talented crew. Small markets are where companies like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and now Apple should be looking to make productions. Not only is it a money saver but allows you to be different than the big boys in LA and NY. Loved this episode Luke! Keep it up!

I strongly agree about the importance of a local camera store! Kinda wish that had been it's own video, as I think the topic is important for new filmmakers to understand. Sure, the online giants are nice for "fire sales" with deep discounts, but often local camera shops are very competitively priced (everyone has the internet these days!) and the added service they provide is indispensable. DVShop and Image Gear here in Toronto have saved me a lot of time and money over the years. Whether that's for warranty issues, trouble-shooting, hearing feedback from other customers, or just demo'ing a product to make sure it suits our needs BEFORE spending the money.
