I had the opportunity of visiting there and did the bell room tour, it was amazing.

How many members of the Lincoln Diocesan Guild have taken part in a 12-bell striking competition since 1987?

I used to enjoy going to the Lincoln Cathedral practices some time ago, but now I've stopped going as the new RM treats them as CY practices

I don't think he's the Cathedral RM anymore, but he used to place the band before each bit of ringing and then announce what they were going to ring, just like a College Youths (CY) practice. So if you'd learned something, wanted to ring it and weren't placed, you didn't get a chance. Les (featured here) didn't do that. Anyone could go where they liked, although he was known to get impatient when people didn't get up.

I haven't been for ages myself but when I used to go regularly they'd have good nights and bad nights. They'd ring half a course of Yorkshire Max no problems but then they'd fire out Stedman. I know they tried to learn Bristol Max (before Royal, which I thought was strange) but they gave up. But I don't know what they're up to now

Another reason I stopped going was because I was getting bored with the stuff they were ringing and I no longer found it a challenge. They knew 6 out of the standard 8 Surprise Royal so they could have had a go at spliced but they never thought of it. They used to ring standard 8-spliced Surprise Major ages ago, but the only Surprise Max they would ring was Cambridge and Yorkshire. And of course they would ring Stedman, Grandsire, Little Bob and Erin occasionally, but eventually I started to find it boring

Hmm...Washingborough, eh? You'll know Jonathan Clark, Sue Waterfall and Bridget Jones-Crabtree then?

I've rung at St Giles a few times, I rang a peal of Grandsire there once. They're a very nice 8, it's just a shame about the surrounding area, though. I haven't rung anywhere else in Lincoln
