I own a reverend sensei hb. A gem of a guitar. The secret to perfection is absolute dedication and when this guy is talking you can feel this strong passion and enthusiasm that lacks nowadays. There's a higher goal then just money !

I always liked the style of the reverend guitars. Hinting to the classic models but still a unique look. Also love how they do the headstocks, new and unique but not excentric. Which is really hard these days

You're not wrong, this prompted me to check some of their stuff out. Heavy straight ahead rock, reminded me a lot of Black Sabbath. Not usually my thing but I like 'em a lot.

TheVimFuego If you like them a lot, I can give you a list of some very similar bands. I live for this genre :) And yes, stoner rock's main influence is Black Sabbath, mostly volume 4 era, together with 70's psych rock bands like Leaf hound etc. It's a riff based, straight forward hard rock with some psych elements and a heavy bass-mids fuzzed out guitar tone. If you like the Sword a lot, you should definitely check out: Fu manchu, Kyuss, Dozer, Truckfighters, Greenleaf, Wo fat, Red fang, Elder (Dead roots stirring from Elder is just a masterpiece!), Orange goblin, Unida, Slo burn, Vista chino... I could keep going honestly haha :) Anyways, if you want to hear some new music or discover more in this style of music, any of these bands will do!!

Solid list there man, only thing I'd like to add is checking out Stoned Meadow of Doom and Bong Druid of Mammoth Weed Mountain's channels here on youtube. I pretty much just go to their video page and pick an album with a cool cover and give it a listen. It very rarely backfires on me haha, both of them upload amazing stoner/doom/psych/etc albums on a daily basis.

Bought my first Reverend in May “sight unseen” now after yesterday I’ve two Reverend Club Kings and they are unbelievably good. Great pickups, stay in tune amazingly well, perfect setup, perfect fit and finish. The big players of the guitar business should be worried because if these Reverends catch on more, there’s going to be an awful lot of Gibson’s and Fenders left hanging on music store walls.

Thanks for doing this interview! I got to meet Ken and Joe back at Nashville NAAM, about 10 years ago. I had just bought a Reverend Buckshot, and it's still one of my most versatile guitars. Best tone, seriously!! I got it during the short time that it was available with the Les Trem, too - so glad I did. It wouldn't be the same guitar without it.

@@officialWWM which american guitar have you played that has a korean counterpart? I would agree that korean guitars are great for the money, but they are not american. If you sunscribe to the "everything matter to sound" camp, just the fit and finish of american is much better.

@onlyguitars
@onlyguitars 5 жыл бұрын
I played a Reverend guitar and the moment I grabbed it I immediately saw it was high-quality build guitar. As good or even better than some US made of top brands I have tried. At this moment I don't see a plus because it's american made IMHO. I agree that they tend to be high quality and foreign tend some to be great other not so much, but that depends on the focus and price point you want on your guitars. Reverend I think is smart, building outside with a high-quality factory with lots of experience and they make guitars with the same US quality. Probably, and here i'm guessing, having it made in the US themselves and same quality as now would end that the guitars costs 20-40% more probably (just guessing here), but would be more expensive. I have learned to just try a guitar, forget any bias or paradigms and see how you like it.

Captain - Most folk here are guitarists, I guess - and we know that when we start noodling on a guitar while someone is talking, we are, at best, only half-listening. For an interviewer it's pretty bad form - and it was pretty distracting here. Now, on the flip side , Reverend guitars are very "play me", plugged or unplugged - so I understand the impulse!

@@christophertodd1980 Thanks man! I'm hoping their older models hold up. Doesn't have the body contouring, but does have the more rare chambered mahogany body. Apparently 7.5lbs... little heavy for my preferences but still not too bad. How heavy are yours?
@christophertodd1980
@christophertodd1980 3 жыл бұрын
@@bruzrkgro-malog2953 never weighed them or my other guitars but Club Kings have a totally different construction of semi-hollow Korina body and spruce top. And every guitar even if the same species of wood can be different in weight as you know. Even between my 290 and my RT there’s a difference, with the RT being the lighter by a few ounces I’d say. They’re about the same weight as a medium to upper-medium weight Strat. Super guitars, just simply great fun to play on and stay in tune great, even with fairly rough handling like the way I play with heavy strings and a heavy bare fingers/pick attack.

I love these guitars! ...so I cant figure out how that is, because when I go and look I dont see anything I fall in love with. The answer is this.. Im a single cut guy on a limited budget. I cant just go buy whatever I like which is the Sensei (prob spelled wrong), The Reeves sigs, The Warhawk Barritone. Yea I really like them, but lets say I can get 2 guitars in the next 3 years. Here is the thing, I need to justify choosing one of these over something else that I feel I need, or just really like. Because options are large and money is small. Thats how it is for most of us in the real world. ...If Reverend made a single cut, Im pretty sure Id already own one. But as things sit...Reverend will remain the most loved guitar that I dont own.

Owned more than a dozen Reverends over the last 15 years, and mostly their original USA made ones which I think still were the best ones, not only for their unique tone (hollow-body meets Strat), but they were all super lightweight too (5.5 - 6.5 lbs). The Korean Revs have been hit and miss but there are good ones to be found. My big peeve now is that they try to market Korina as a light wood and it really is anything but. I've had it out with dealers trying to find me one that is less than 7 pounds but they never are, and some I've tried top out at 8 pounds plus. That's not lightweight! Necks are some of the best out there though, but they need to work on shaving a pound or more off their bodies and get them to weigh more like the USA ones did.
@davidkieltyka9
@davidkieltyka9 7 жыл бұрын
You're not gonna get the guitar as light as you'd prefer without changing the tone. The original US guitars are just different animals. More like Danelectros in construction than anything you'll get with proper wood. I love 'em (I own the 3rd production Reverend ever made) but that build style & sound doesn't have the broader appeal of what they're doing now.
@escargotomy
@escargotomy 7 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, the old "mass=tone" thesis is as horse-crap today as it was 40 years ago. Leo knew that, that's why he chose alder & swamp ash when he went to market. The maple/mahogany boat-anchors that Kalamazoo put out for so long and became synonymous with rock and hard rock is smoke and mirrors. 8 out of 10 people with blindfolds on couldn't tell the difference between a cranked SG and a LP at the same settings, and the SG typically weighs 2-3 lbs less. Its the pickups and the string composition that account for the lion's share of tone. That's why most intelligent metal guitarists over the last 20 years have gone with Basswood over mahagony because they know mass = tone is fool's gold. As for Reverend, I'd be all over a Jetsteam or Kingbolt if they'd make it out of Basswood or Alder. No guitar should ever be more than 7 pounds...it's ridiculous.
@davidkieltyka9
@davidkieltyka9 7 жыл бұрын
I didn't say "mass = tone." More mass just equals different tone compared to less mass. Tone is a property of sound, not a thing you either have or don't have. "Better" or "worse" or "the same" is for every person to decide for themselves. Different guitars, made of different stuff using different methods & techniques all sound different. I've got a bunch of 'em for just that reason! A heavy ash Tele sounds different to a lighter one. Resonates different, sustains different. A heavy Les Paul sounds different to a light SG in the same way. Now throw a ton of gain on both and those differences mostly get washed out. But play 'em both clean or just on the edge of breakup through something like an old tweed Fender Deluxe and it's obvious which is which. Is one "better" than the other? Hell, no…they're just different flavors. The recent Reverends I've played, including a real sharp-looking Jenn Wasner sig model, are quite different guitars compared to my "old" Rocco. But I like 'em. Speaking of basswood I have an old Supro Dual Tone with a chunky body made of that stuff. Not a lightweight but not too heavy either. Pretty lifeless acoustically but absolutely killer when plugged in. I get that some folks, maybe you included, are about finding or making the optimum guitar. That's not my thing.

Ken seems like a cool guy. The guitars are very nice, I'd like to try one out. I have played through one of their amps and it was fantastic. Here's the thing though - they went on and on about the affordability and value. At one point Lee says to build them in the US they would have to sell for maybe 4-5 times as much. From the prices (MAP) I just found on the net, that would make them in the $3500 and up category. How is it that a USA Fender Strat are selling for roughly $1300? A Mexican made start is about $800. That's my only issue - this is just over the top infomercial category. Sorry to say, I've noticed this trend becoming stronger and stronger from Andertons. I love watching The Captain, I think he's a very good businessman who loves playing guitar. I subscribe to the channel for many reasons. Foremost among them is it's just enjoyable. They're starting to lose me. Please tone it back again.

I recently watched two you tube videos. I was happy to hear that they were from the USA in Teledo, OH. They my stomach fell when I heard they were manufactured in South Korea. I do get it dont get me wrong I have Gibsons a d some Epiphones. It is my understanding these EPI sales go to Gibson. It all about the "Dough-Ray-Me", totally get it to have sales. I also like that these imports are inspected in the USA by the business owner of the product. What I can't wrap my head around is when Joe said he needed a manufacturer that can design his product the way he intended? HELLO, no manufacturer in the USA can't do that for Reverend? Is it only about the labor cost savings? Anyway I like the Guitars, I really do. I think the USA can do the work too. It may make me feel better when I know what percentage of it goes back to the USA based company after the guitar is sold. I do understand your point about being worried about dragging our expensively guitars to a gig. I have to think this over, i would like to consider Reverend.

Captain : " in the 500 / 1000 pounds range, there's no better guitars in terms of quality made " Inside the head of the Captain " but be sure we will work on that with Chapman , maybe take from you some ideas to make it ".

Buying a Reverend Warhawk RT was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Problem is, I want like four more Reverend models, and really can’t afford that many...

How well can I understand you... I started with a Warhawk RT, then fell in love with the otherworldly tones the Airsonic delivers ( nearly faint everytime I play it), and now seriously considering picking up some Buckshot, with that marvel super greasy-T bridge pickup... but wonder if shouldnt grab a double agent instead !

@@simoneric8183 that’s hilarious, because I ended up getting an Airsonic W red burst, and a Burnt Brick Double Agent W. they are both incredible. If you have interest in the Double Agent, I would check out the new Six Gun HPP. Humbucker and two P90s! They just did a reveal today on the Reverend KZbin channel.

Nice designs - shame they're not making in the US or UK or I'd consider. Just my preference...if you're a US company then build them in the US...I'll pay more for it.

Love the shapes of these but they have to get their finishes together. Most of their guitars I found for sale have weird orange and green colors with shiny silver scratch plates and such. Keep it a little more classic with the finishes and it'll appeal to a wider crowd.
