Watch this episode if you already haven't. Kyle & the VMF shot it just to show us "How To Identify a Vervet Monkey & Tell Them Apart." You'll be able to recognize the differences much better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3PCdXSff8aLhqc The light and angles, however, make it difficult for us to always distinguish facial features on youtube. It can help to watch on full screen on your TV or largest device possible and use pause and zoom on facial shots or close ups. Then you can go through the different features checks pointed out in the above video clip to recognize them and to test yourself until you become familiar. Once you know 'how' to tell them apart it's as easy as knowing the difference between 12 kids on a soccer team...or 15 executives in a boardroom. Remember though, these caretakers are up close and personal with the monkeys ALL DAY, EVERY DAY so don't be too hard on yourself. Once you watch the video linked above you will be a VMF volunteer pro! After a year of watching rhesus macaques on Arroz Marisco's KZbin channel I can finally recognize them. But, they have red or tan faces so you can see their faces very well. Sometimes on the VMF videos the grown ups' faces can all look alike until you pause and zoom in on them. Click the video above. You will really be able to see their differences. Also, when you click on Playlists in the VMF channel there are 7 'Q & A' videos they have made to answer many questions and explain the exciting lives of these not so distant cousins of ours. Enjoy!

OMG! You have to re-watch the grand entrance of Lil' G & Martini into their troop. It's so great! At 20:03 Dolly rushes out of the intro cage with both babies clinging underneath her. The funny part is at 20:07...this is when the "running hug" happens. As Dolly keeps running towards freedom she's being chased by either Meagan or Chicken, not sure. But, whoever it is, watch as she catches up to the 3 newcomers. You can tell she just cannot wait for Dolly to stop. Sort of like someone with their sleeve stuck in the door of a moving car, she kind of jumps up on 2 legs with her arms already wrapping around Dolly & the babies. She's hugging them and stopping them all at the same time. In a flash they're huddled in a circle with 10 arms wrapped up in monkey love. Literally taking just 6 seconds! Definitely worth another look. I missed it the first time around. Watch from 20:00 - 20:10

My favorite bit at the end of all the episodes, Martini trying to escape and the hooman getting eyebrowed like crazy! Man, if I could I would be there to start helping with new baby season. I hope and pray that you will find all the help and support that you need in these crazy times. Thank you so much for caring for these special beings and for sharing their stories with us, and your stories, too! This is my favorite channel all the way! 💗❣💕

@@VervetMonkey so how do you start a troop? ddo you take some adults from other troops? then add orphans? or do you just release the little ones into an enclosure? and when the grow up then you try to add babies? this wouldd make a great video. starting a new troop.

In the wild males normally leave their birth troops to join other troops, how is this handled at the sanctuary? Do the males fight often over females, I know they are fixed at age 2 but they do still produce hormones as the testes are intact.
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 4 жыл бұрын
Very good question, yes males leave there natal troop from the age of 4 years, so far we have not experienced many problems with the males staying longer, we do have fights where a new male takes over the troop, in extreme case we will remove a male and reintegrate him into another troop

@@VervetMonkey This topic reminds me of a question I've had. In Season 3, somewhere around episode 20ish, you showed footage of a baby monkey that was born within the troop. You pointed out how their faces turn darker more rapidly b/c of the sun. Being that the monkeys are fixed, was that female brought to the VMF as an adult and already pregnant? Or, maybe mother nature had other plans for her AND the sterilization process didn't take AND a Bandit male mated with her? Guess you can tell I've thought about it. Just curious about that one. Thanks, Darren

In the wild female vervet monkeys give birth to a baby once a year. The older babies have still a very close relationship to the mother, but they are independent of her and take care of themselves, usually forming a group of peers of juvenile monkeys who are constantly playing together. Often we see older foster babies coming by and play with the new babies, integrating them into their family. Mrs Gold is special as she adopts happily two babies a year, sometimes even three.

When the babies are released to Disneyland do they stay outside 24/7 and do they have a human with them all the time? 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪
@hanabruger3364
@hanabruger3364 4 жыл бұрын
When the babies go to Disneyland, they are still in baby care with a human 24/7. In the evening, we place them in night crates where they sleep. The night crates are taken inside in a baby cabin (usually Loveland). A person spends the night with them in the cabin. This way we can check on the babies, especially the crit care babies need several check ups throughout the night. Once the babies move into an introcage and have met a foster monkey mum, we leave them in with the mum and she takes care of them during night time.

Guys I really hope your not planning to charge the public to watch your videos, forcing them to pay you for a service that is otherwise included with your internet bill. Do you really think that this is the right time to start making people pay you to watch monkeys? In the middle of a pandemic when most are struggling to pay essential bills just to survive? That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sorry guys love the videos but aside from subscribing and watching commercials for you, thats enough.
