Stephenie Larsen, a Mormon mother of six from Orem, Utah, says she used to think that “being gay was a sin.” Now she joins Megyn Kelly TODAY to talk about why she opened a resource center for LGBTQ youth in Provo. “The No. 1 thing Christ wants us to do is love others,” she explains.

No one is perfect and no church is perfect. Especially dealing with something so sensitive and complex. As a Mormon I can say the Church is trying to adjust the focus towards love. And they are making an attempt to bridge the gap between Mormons and the LGBTQ community. Even devoted a website to sharing counsel and stories: mormonandgay.lds.org

Their homophobic teachings are blasphemous, dangerous, lethal, degrading, inhumane, disgusting and sad. To simply say, “it’s not perfect” is to look the other way from their damage. Societal pressure is forcing their about face and look at the positive results from such pressure and that’s from something that’s.......”not perfect”.

I'm not sure how anyone can say that sexuality knowledge is obvious from any age especially such young ages, how can you know until puberty starts and you start actually getting attraction feelings let alone sexual feelings? To say most people know by 12 years of age is wrong. I didn't know that I was bisexual till I was 16. It didn't surprise me, but I hadn't any lesbian feelings until then.

As a born and raised LDS member (from Provo, UT). I mostly agree with Stephanie. I'd like to clarify that the Church can only do so much to influence it's members to do the right thing. My experience has been within any organization, the culture can take shape into something else that it was not intended to be. I see that constantly within the Church. People get some whacky ideas and then call it the norm. It's not. The real Norm of our Church is what Stephanie said at the end of the video. We focus on Christ and the fact that he loves everyone. Do I encourage homosexual relationships...no. I truly believe that the scriptures (i.e. holy bible) make it clear that it is forbidden and that the practice is offensive to the Lord. However, having said that -- I have many friends who are homosexual and they know where I stand in that regard. It isn't my job to judge them, it's my job to love them and support them through their life's journey just like any good friend would do. This particular matter is between them and the Lord - THAT'S IT. Just like I have my own imperfections that are forbidden, those are between myself and God. We believe that regardless of our sins God loves all of us the way any loving parent would for their children. Anyways, that's my two cents. I don't want people on this thread to think all negative about the Church. The Church can always do better (just like the rest of us) but they do make the effort to emphasize this with it's members. It's the people within that go rogue sometimes and need to be set straight.
