If they have a religious belief, or simply don't agree with my lifestyle, it's their right to not work for me. This freedom thing applies to everyone. You are not announcing the cakes as "edible art" you are selling cakes that are used to be eaten, it is doesn't matter the nature of the event where the cake is going to be eaten, so you as a provider, cannot reject a "customized" order, because is what are you offering. His children inherited his BBQ chain and it's still in operation; they're apparently a bit embarrassed about the history. Maddox elected to close his cafeteria. And then became Governor of Georgia. LOL Apparently, Nancy here doesn't understand the concept that "separate is not equal" in American history or under the law. She apparently thinks that if a person like Maurice Bessinger just tells a black person politely that his religious beliefs prevent him from letting them eat in his restaurant (in violation of the law) that there's no humiliation involved. I wonder what Nancy would think if there was a whole community of non-Christians and a Christian driving through town (with a Christian bumper sticker and wearing a cross) is politely denied service by the gas station and restaurant because she's a Christian - if the Christian will feel humiliated.

After he died, his children permanently removed those, along with the controversial religious tracts advocating that the African slave trade was benevolent.

So selfish to presume everyone ought to believe as they believe - it is only a cake, find another baker! Your 'hurt feelings' should not be used to harm someone's business or force them to act against conscience.

Businesses can choose to sell blt's or not. But if they choose to sell them, then they have to sell them equally to ALL customers. The baker chooses to sell wedding cakes, so he has to sell them equally to everyone.

When they just cant accept NO as an answer, they shout discrimination. The baker POLITELY REFUSED TO MAKE SPECIFIC CAKE and its not isolated, he's been refusing all sorts because as an artist you cant create something if its against your will. He wasnt violent, they were welcomed into his shop, they can buy anything thats there in the shop, they order birthday cake if they want.. He's not doing it for money coz he's been refusing other specific cakes which he cited in conflict with his beliefs. Would you want to do something you cant give your 100% into it? Clients must understand, just because you have money, you cant just do it your way.

With no judgment on these two men, I find what's commendable is that Jack Phillips has carried himself dignified, quiet and assertive (despite having his life ruined). He could have been vindictive, riled against these two men and waxed lyrical about his rights (compare the other MK interview)

Jack Phillips is a polite bigot. Many businesses in the 1960's politely turned away black people. "I'm sorry, but we can't serve you because you are black"

Meanwhile, the baker would sell them anything they make, just not a custom wedding cake. He didn't refuse to serve them! I'm an atheist, and there's so many things that I disagree with regarding religion on so many levels. But I side with the baker 100% in this case. If I was a nazi and wanted a swatstika cake, should I be allowed to sue for discrimination? And please, I'm not comparing homosexuality to nazi's.... I'm saying a private business owner should be given the right to sell their product in a way that they choose to represent themselves. Please someone convince me I'm wrong because I seriously just don't get it.

The press still fails to mention the baker shop was in fact a religious bakery. The name of the bakery was quoted from a bible verse and the baker had bible quotes in his store. Hope he sues the state because they were the ones that violated his first amendment right.

I am an artist 👩🎨 and if I were asked to paint something that went against my beliefs as a Christian I would refuse.... holding no ill will in my heart towards the customer. Religious freedom must be upheld - just as individual rights (such as who you love) should be upheld. I don’t believe the cake shop owner did anything wrong. He seems like a very sweet man who is just trying to live in accordance with his beliefs!

This isn’t just about beliefs. This is about refusing someone a certain service based on their sexual orientation. What if a person refused a black and white couple a wedding cake, based on a belief that they don’t believe in interacial marriage? How far do we go with this?
