Exactly. It was an affair, plain and simple. And what’s REALLY sad about “stories” like this is that they take away from the seriousness of the women (and some men) that were actually harassed and assaulted and coerced. It’s really a sad situation smh 🤦‍♂️

David Stan she's not playing the victim, she specifically pointed out that she had a part in all of this and was hard to forgive herself. She is ashamed and is simply stating that Matt had coaxed her into having the affair. Neither is Matt Lauer. My sympathy goes to all the other women that had to work around this mess, or didn't get promotions or jobs because they weren't screwing anyone. Or ANYONE, man or woman who finds that these situations demoralize the workplace. And you can fire people for engaging in adulterous affairs in the workplace. They do many times in Connecticut and New Jersey. They're called moral turpitude laws. No sympathy for the Matt Lauers of the world. I'm glad they took him down.

The greater topic of discussion is that sexual abuse is centred around someone of power that exploits their own position to abuse others of lower stature. Sure this woman knew the opportunities that would arise if she went along with the affair, but regardless of her intentions Matt Lauer would still be using this tactic on other women or abuse them in other ways in the workplace. This story highlights the many facets of a perpetrator's mind and less so of the women involved.

Women go nuts when they find out that they were not the only one. For some reason a woman has an affair with a married man and believes he has never done this with anyone else. They feel important and when they find out they were just another of the man's bedroom buddies they feel cheapened. I understand it. As was said on the video, always choose honor. @Sindy Lou Not really, plenty of women got married even into their 40s. I've done geneology on my family, so I know. Even divorces happened among Protestants. Matt Lauer is gross and he was abusive to Ann Curry. He was protected because of his background. That tribe will always protect their own. The fact that he even had that much power has just as much to do with discrimination as it does talent. Who says HE deserved to be where he was in life ? According to Ronan Farrow, Weinstein used an Israeli spy to go after him when he was writing about Matt Lauer. I believe it.

I am currently 24 and I have been propositioned by a married boss twice my age. We would always joke back and for about frivolous platonic things. But one day I happened to walk pass him outside of work and he told me to come back to his hotel room. I thought he was joking because we always joke but then when I realized he was serious, I laughed and said "No, I'm sure your wife wouldn't like that" and walked off quickly. And he never made any uncomfortable advances like that to me again. He respected my boundaries and we continued to keep it professional with the occasional joke here and there. I think the main point here is to trust your gut, when you feel like you are in a comprimising position regardless of the potential benefits you may acquire from submitting to it.

I'm glad you told this story Alisha as I have compassion for anyone who is truly victimized, but I have also found with the #metoo movement and everything we are now hearing that women are being painted very much weaker than they are. While in my experience, and I've seen it happen twice, when a woman lays down the ground rules and is firm - it will, more times than not - put a stop to things. It usually embarrasses the other individual, as well, and makes them a better person. On the other hand, yes, there are truly some rogues out there, but by and large, at least the ones I know...most men are not animals and will back off when signals are clear. Which is a bit of a problem in and of itself and very much depends on individuals involved in a particular situation and how each of them perceives things, etc. As flirting is a delicate art and a woman may not be flirting at all in her own mind. Thus the need for absolute clarity and firmness. It won't solve every problem, but I'm pretty sure it will solve most. I also don't think this is a 'woman only' problem as much as it is portrayed. Though on the other hand, as a man, I can honestly say that for some reason I'm really not as bothered by things as much as a woman is. I'm sure I will get a lot of anger directed at me for that, but both sexes need to talk openly and honestly and not be afraid to do so. I'm also, actually, a pretty sensitive guy, so if I don't always get it perhaps it will help people understand why other men might not get it and a conversation can begin there without beating each other over the head. For instance, I've been sexually harassed, well beyond its specific dictionary definition, and though I found it annoying, after it got to a certain point - where it may not have gotten if I said something sooner - when I said 'enough is enough' it ended and this has happened 4 times and in one case the woman was my superior and in the other my direct boss. So because I was able to handle these things, I suppose that's why I believe others probably can, too, or am I wrong? Sorry, too, if I was not respectful enough but I'm trying to be fair about all of this as some of the women who I have seen talk about their 'horrible experience' seem to be complicit in it. Once you're over 21, you are a full fledged adult,..you know what an affair is. Matt and that woman from NBC were BOTH responsible for their affair. She got as much out of it as Matt did. She was getting a high knowing that she was having an affair with this powerful guy at NBC, and might have even subconsciously been thinking it would get her ahead in the company. We are getting too broad with our definitions of what sexual harassment is, and everyone just wants to get on the "I've been sexually harassed" train, or club, or whatever. It's taking away the legitimacy of women who've actually been harassed or hit on...people have affairs, and if all the women who later regret it, and want to wash it away by coming out and saying they were "sexually harassed," are just not taking responsibility for their part in it.

I agree with both of you (Dennis/Carrie). If she would have been prohibited from flying jet fighters if she wanted to there would be cries of "discrimination", "sexism" and of course "misogyny". But she's not intelligent enough to make decisions when it comes to who she sleeps with? Sorry, but from my perspective it would seem like women want it both ways. "Look at us a strong and capable" but if things don't turn out the way we want, THEN we get to revert back to being just young and naive. Must be nice to expect and get "do-overs". Men don't get to do that, we expect to be held responsible for our actions. We don't get to blame others. We have to own it. Now consider a lot of the stuff we read about sexual assaults on campus. How many of those cases are actually REAL sexual assaults, and how many are "second thoughts" or "regret" later? When a man sleeps with a women, and later regrets it (yes, it does happen) we have to chalk it up to it being a "life lesson" and move on. Women on the other hand get to play the perpetual victim card. And some women wonder why a lot of guys don't want to work around them????

Why would I show compassion for a woman who willfully committed adultery to get ahead? I have been in situations where so called married "Sr. Leaders" in government hit on me and wanted to see if I would go along with it. I have always believed in doing what is right. As such, I saved the instant messages that were sent to me as evidence and submitted it to HR. HR did not fire him for sending me inappropriate messages about my body, they simply asked if the instant messages were legitimate, he apologized for the "mishap" and they transferred me to another office/division. I followed up with HR and attempted to file an official complaint against him, but it was apparent that the Sr. people in HR did not want to support me with complaint, because it would have drawn a lot of negative attention to the department and the administration's lackluster leadership.

@rileyscott5827
@rileyscott5827 6 жыл бұрын
Why "advice" and not advice? Is it so hard for you to believe that someone can ask another person for advice? It's not unusual. In fact it is very common, and i'm sure you know that. Also, people flirt, and say flattering things to others without pursuing them, without making advances whether it be verbal, physical, or both. ie, there is an element of doubt and uncertainty as to what will/could happen. And things don't have to end up in bed. If it turns out the other person fails to actually follow through on their word/promise and does in fact makes advances, that would be the point at which decisions would have to be made as to the course of action. It was her decision to have an affair and she made that knowingly and intentionally. That, along with the consequences of that decision is on her. My point is that up until the point when he was very clear about his intentions, esp. physically (trying to kiss her, for ex.), she's not to blame for any of that.

If she followed that one cardinal rule, she wouldn't be on this show airing her filthy laundry! What you said in one sentence, surpasses anything I'm writing now or any other time! You gotta respect yourself first! Even now, in middle age, I'm tried! And the scary part is, I see it right away! So all this talk about - Oh she was just young & vulnerable...Well, I'm middle age and suffer from disabilities! Does that give me a pass to allow a man to take advantage? I'm just saying now for example because just because it ain't that often don't mean it can't happen! It will be just plain stupid, and even though she's a little better than 1/2 my age don't mean she can't think! It took some degree of intelligence to have Katie Couric as a mentor, now why she couldn't see what Lauer really wanted with her???

I've met many younger women who get turned on by the idea of doing things with a married man, they enjoy the attention from a more "mature" successful older man, they love how an older man can make them feel, as well as the taboo of doing something so wrong, it's intriguing, women in their early 20's don't think about the families, wives, or children involved, it's a very selfish act, they lack maturity, and can be blinded by how an older man treats them, as they mature, many do feel remorseful
