Apparently someone thought that they were worth it at some point. Maybe nba teams start thinking about players character before handing out max money but I doubt it. Look up how much money Zuon Williamson makes.
@raeserec53510 ай бұрын
the system is good enough right now, it's designed to protect players by having most of their money guranteed while allowing the teams as much freedom on how they want to pay the player, the problem you have exists but it's not the system's fault, its the teams giving out these ridiculous contracts on players that are obviously not worth it because not giving them what they want results in them just losing the player's outright, a good example of this thing done right was deandre ayton on the suns, guy was asking for max money but the team refused, they know whats up so they just flip him for whatever they can get instead of losing him for nothing, they get one of the best fit bigman in the league for their team and no horrible contract in sight, blazers fucked up though they just gave him the contract and is now regretting it

@usernamenotwrittenoutoflaz986510 ай бұрын
@@raeserec535 Yeah i prefer the NBA's system a lot more than the NFL's system since the players actually get compensated well and the bad contracts are never the players fault but rather the teams. It also stops teams from screwing over their players with unguaranteed money and all that like what happens at times in the NFL. This obviously helps every player but I would argue that it helps the mediocre role players the most since if they sign a 4 year 40 mil deal they are guaranteed that money no matter what even if they get an unlucky injury or something like that.

He’s right that there isn’t ego ball here in Utah, and it shows as we’ve been putting the league on notice, and John collins has been a major asset in that. Hawks currently 16-23, jazz 22-20. L take

@@konzza I agree that he's probably overpaid, but there are 2 main reasons it doesn't bother me: 1. It's not hurting the Jazz at all right now. They have a lot of value contracts throughout their roster, and they need to spend above the lower threshold in order to not be penalized so overpaying a player here or there isn't a big deal. 2. The contract gets less bad over time since the salary cap generally increases each year especially with new CBA. The last year of his contract his $26M will be more similar to an $18-$20 M contract this year.
@konzza10 ай бұрын
@@phillipwitt4433 This is we where both do agree wholeheartedly 👍🏼 On several forums i have said the same thing in defence of Collins, that in Jazz's current roster salary situation his contract isn't least bit of an issue as one of the cheapest rosters in the league and meeting salary floor more of an issue than hitting the salary ceiling. It was somewhat weird seeing Jazz to stockpile PF position with Markkanen, Hendricks as their first pick and then taking Collins. My initial thoughs we're Ainge angling to trade Markkanen away, but not so sure about it anymore, as Collins is doing OK as a center and Lauri being as good as SF than PF. In their current form and seeing these rotations work in practise resulting into winning basketball, the current roster set-up finally makes sense even for a random couch potato like me 😃. Yes. Collins is overpaid. But as you said it wouldn't be a major issue for Jazz even without their upturn as a team.

Would be great to have one of these about players like Denver’s Zeke Nnaji, who was resigned to a $8M/4 $32M extension in October and immediately became unplayable. The Nuggets have spent 3+ years nurturing, coaching and overvaluing this guy. Then, inexplicably, gave him an extension using the RookieExt/Bird clause, that pays him more than Jeff Green is getting in Houston. The local media refuses to explain why the team, which has been pretty savvy in the Jokic era, is saddling themselves with a contract, that will represent 6+% of their payroll in 24-25. Does the team think that just one more year of watching and getting paid even more $ the light will go on and he’ll turn into Aaron a Gordon?
