Meet the people of Kerala India

Kerala is the South Western province of India. The people of Kerala speak the Malayalam language. Kerala People are a heterogeneous group of people who have distinctive cultural and religious traditions. During my two weeks visit in Kerala as part of the Kerala Blog Express (www.KeralaBlogExpress.com) I was able to travel through most of Kerala and discover the joys of the Kerala People. Their music, traditions (Kathakali), personalities and laughter.

One of the things I've really enjoyed about India are the people they are so warm and friendly and hospitable and they are always so keen to be on camera.
Let me show you what I mean. Here we go.

The most under-rated part of Kerala is the food. I had no idea that Kerala food was so delicious...Only when I got a job in Bangalore, I started eating at a small Kerala mess called Achayan's...since then, I always say- I may be bengali but my stomach is pure Mallu.

I was in Kerala 2000 and it was my first foreign trip... I was so excited... It was an unforgettable trip... The Keralites are very similar to Sinhalese in their culture except for the language .. food, films, the mentality has more to do with Sihnalies.. I felt that Sinhalese have much in common with Keralites than with Tamils... (I am not a racist .. I am telling just my observations).I would say Keralites are in between Sinhalese and Tamils.

Thank you all so much for all the nice replies! Just saw them. We did everything suggested here. My main thought on returning was that I want to go back again! Wonderful people, sights, culture, food...We stayed in Fort Cochin for 3 days, 3 days on the island with the big Hilton for the wedding--simple and lovely, warm and meaningful. Our new family member's mother asked us to add a Jewish prayer, and so we did--the ''Seven Blessings'' for a wedding. We Israelis read them in Hebrew, and our US family in English. During the dancing, the band struck up a hora--the Jewish guests started dancing, Indians joining in and soon there were 3 circles of hora dancers. Then we toured the area of water and canals and lakes in a houseboat. There's something about the atmosphere in Kerala that I can't quite describe, but it is so alive and relaxing and warm. All promises fulfilled, and more.

So wonderful to see a foreigner appreciating Kerala and its people. Keralites are maligned and abused by the racist North Indian 'national' media for their different culture, for instance they eat beef (which is taboo in the North), they vote for Leftist and secular parties unlike the Northern states who prefer far-right parties and they are generally far more refined, cultured and educated as compared to Indians from the North. These are not the best of times for a Keralite in India but it's heartwarming to see how it's people are winning the hearts of foreigners.
