Every single one of these think tanks, left and right, should be reqired to disclose their sources of funding. Otherewise they are all simply unaccountable influences on government.

Apparently, the increasing influence of think tanks on public policy is due to our government wanting a low cost planning and decision making system without resorting to the bureaucracy of the civil service. Because formulating policies and directing public departments to implement them takes substantial amount of time and public resources. To save time and money, the government turns to these think tanks to help research and consulting policy issues.

Totally agree, over the last 50 years we've seen many policies introduced that have been driven by the private finance sector or American corporation's without any public scrutiny.

Be honest. They're special interest lobbyists. Call them lobbyists.

Depressing how many of the people interviewed seem proud that they moved think tank to think tank... Just a way to get paid for some and to influence for others

Think tanks are all well and good but who holds them accountable? Who stops them getting too powerful? Who sponsors them?

I would counter that the vast majority of think tanks are not well and good, the best ones argue against their own industry...

Think tanks aresimply lobby groups with veneer of looking morescientific. The New Statesmen see to much into the Westminister bubble for my liking

I don't think any of these three think tanks have any considerable impact on the current government. Should have invited Onward.

Very boring podcast. Whilst thin k tanks are having an effect on our political life and therefore society these 3 speakers were not inspiring.
