The irony is of course that the national debt increased under the Tories. And although they managed to reduce the deficit, they did it through austerity which was clearly a disaster. The myth that the Tories can be trusted with the economy needs to be dispelled.

The Tories always run the economy down when in office, except for the bits they sympathise with and understand. They have been steadily defunding so many bits of the state's and local authorities' services that they are now barely able to function. The local rat-catcher says Derbyshire is likely to stop its pest-control arm, soon. At a time when many local farms are experiencing a virtual plague of rats.

Income tax cuts will be for the better off. What we need is a massive reduction in council tax (which has been plundered by the Tories who dont support councils as they used to) and a massive cut in VAT which has gone up under this iteration of the Tories and is a very regressive tax.
